Thanks OP…but Still way too expensive!!!!!!!!

    • +4

Yeah only for those who really don't care about money too much but like to save a bit :)

      • Why isnt it for most. Samsung has many things like TV, fridge, washing machine.

        1.5k each.

Most people have whitegoods and TV

        • +2

But most of us aren't buying those items direct from Samsung at their RRP…

        • @dontpanic: Yes Samsung for some reason doesn't compete with Aus retailers on pricing or have Sales like Sony does

    • possibly still way too risky? Let some people test the battery first :)

      • i wouldn't worry too much this time… well, if they fail again, they are fxxxed!!!!!TOTALLLLY Fxxxed!!!

      • on the contrary, once a company fails in one respect they often over engineer that facet of the product in the future. i'd have more faith in samsung batteries at this point than any other company's

    • +1

I've been saving up since the Note 3 …

      • +1

Me too; except got wooed by the Note5 and bit that bait.
        Gave away my trusted Note3.

Note5 got water damaged in 15 months.
Replaced it with a Note3; loving it.

Now again musing on the Note8….

  • Nothing in the terms that stops you buying a TV

    • +4

I reckon it'd be cheaper buying a TV through one of the Good Guys eBay sales. On the odd occasion they have a one day sale in store and online which can also be quite good.

Damn. Rather restrictive. Before anyone asks, I just checked and there does not appear to be a gift card option on the Samsung Australia website.

    • +8

Why did you neg the deal? It may not be a deal for you, it certainly isn't for me, but it's still a worthwhile deal to some. These are the guidelines on voting. You could argue "The deal is not the cheapest available" but at launch I reckon it'd tough to find the phone much cheaper than $1349 locally - in fact most of the big stores still list the S8+ at $1349 which was the launch price 4 months back.

      • +3

Look at his name 'trump3'; just whinge about everything

    • +11

Yeah, your view is pretty short sighted and naive.

Most retailers will not have local Australian stock for less than $150 off of RRP within the first 1-3 months of launch.

Add in the two pre-order bonuses (Free wireless charger at $119 and free screen replacement in first year if broken)

Then pay for it on a card like the Amex Explorer, you'll earn 2250 flyer points (Valued at $22.50) and get an additional year of warranty (Three years, not two as local Australian stock has two years + 1, grey imports have 1 year and additional costs shipping)

Also, using that card means for years 2+3 i also have screen insurance through the card meaning i can claim up to two screen replacements and pay only 10% of repair cost (Likely $400, so cost is $40)

So your perceived cheapest price really isn't right. Yeah, you could probably get a grey import version after a month for around $1200. Good luck with that.

After my last ordeal buying the N7 from Samsung's website, I will never ever buy it from them online again.

It's so stupid how you can't get a refund for a faulty item from their bricks and mortar store.

    • +6

It might be because they only sell bricks and mortar at their store?

    • Why not? I thought the rule was for a major fault the consumer has a choice of either free repair or refund? I'm sure I read something like that at the ACCC website

      • I think it depends if you're claiming through the retailer or the manufacturer. If it's from the retailer you can demand a refund if it's from the manufacturer you can only receive a replacement. Edit: I think it's the other way round surprisingly: link.

      • I think his point was he purchased it online from Samsung but could not return it to a physical Samsung store and was disappointed in that.

        • +1

          Spot on!

All online purchases must be refunded via Samsung online.

You must call them, wait for a returns box/packaging to arrive, arrange for a courier pick up, wait 3 months+, chase their call centre / online chat, etc.

This was at Samsung Melbourne Central.

    • Can you expound on this please? What exactly happened - what was the problem and what did they say?

      • I had the same experience. I purchased my Note 7 from Samsung Australia online and when the recall recall happened I went Ivy the Samsung store at Melbourne Central.

As soon as they found out I purchased via the online store, they turned me away and said Samsung Australia online and their Samsung store are different companies.

    • Are the stores run by Samsung or is it a franchise/concession thing? The stores may only be related to Samsung in name.

      • +1

Samsung at Melbourne Central claimed to be a franchise (at least that's what their store manager said to me when I spoke to them during Note 7 issue)

    • Everyone had their own stock to stocktake and sent back to their respective suppliers.
So if you got it at
      Harvey, back to Harvey.
      Optus, back to Optus.
      Telstra, back to Telstra,
probably same with the Samsung stores and online, different warehouses or suppliers meant they had to process it differently.
Also it could be due to the amount of phones being recalled it would have helped with logistics.
Sucks but it helps with keeping things in order.

  • Posted at 4am! Great Ozbargaining Trent!

    • +2

I always set my alarm so I can catch his deals.

  • Too expensive.. I will give it a pass.
No I am not negging it, but not for me

  • +2

Funny how people baulk at the price of these when they're first released but never really question iPhone prices. Resale value plays a part I guess too.

    • -5

My 3yo iphone 6 128gb is selling for $400-$500 on gumtree. A GS5/6, you'd be lucky to get $200-300 for.

I say it's worth the extra. Also, facetime and imessage are awesome and huge draws to the platform. People are willing to pay that for the convenience. I basically need them to have easy constant contact with family overseas. I know there are work arounds for android, but then you have to coordinate them getting the same app, keeping it open, etc.

Myself, and I'm guessing millions of others, are willing to pay a bit more upfront for the above.

      • +7

"have to co-ordinate them getting the same app"……In your example you have to have the same type of phone? That's much worse.

I reckon the 500 odd million cross platform users on Whatsapp around the world might disagree with your logic.

        • For technophobes like my parents, the iphone has been by and far the easiest product to get them to use tech. It's much more intuitive than android and it's built in messaging and video calling makes things so much easier to explain whilst they live halfway across the world.

I think android has it's place, but to baulk at iphone prices given the above, I think is a bit unfair. I'd never spend $1500 on an android phone knowing it would be less than a third that price in a year. An iphone will maintain that price, though. And the ease-of-use has a place.

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Just don't judge others for spending that.

        • If you think FaceTime and WhatsApp video calls have the same quality, oh boy you're in for a treat when you experience FaceTime for the first time!

        • @blergmonkeys: Until they ask "how do i get my photos out of my phone into the computer"…

        • Just an example of an app you could use. There obviously would be better than that.

The other issue, as @thirdwill has pointed out, is the prevalence of the omnipotent piece of sh#t known as iTunes…but now we're just going into a boring old "Android is better. No! iPhone is better" argument.
Horses for courses. Do what makes you happy. Good day

        • @thirdwill: Um… plug it in, drag and drop out of the pictures folder?

        • @blergmonkeys: last i checked, transferring photos from iphones to PC require itunes. The Apple support page refer to different instructions depending on what Windows version you have.

Android is like plugging a USB stick. I must admit, its a bit of a maze to find which subfolder the photos are stored though.

I agree with different strokes for different folks, but i disagree with Apple's being easier to use. If you use it often enough, it becomes easy.

        • @hashtagbargain: Just wait till you use DUO!!! IT BE CRAZY!!! And it's on iPhone and android…

        • @thirdwill: some people have never plugged in a Cabrera to a PC before. The are in the dcim folder which is a standard. Also backed up online so can browse then on Google photos

    • +1

Have you not been on an iPhone thread here? There are plenty of people who baulk at iPhone prices.

  • -1

Looks like a great deal for the die-hard Samsung fanboys out there.
I doubt any true ozbargainers will go for it though.

  • Meh.

  • +1

    ISIS certified?

  • so the phone will be 1320$ effectively with 3 year warranty (if this is via right point earning/premier card) - not too bad for early adaptors with the preorder bonuses.

  • +1

Deal should mention Free wireless charger ($119) for preorders. So you could look at this deal as $1230 for Galaxy Note 8 which is a good deal.

    • plus a Screen Asure, which is a 12 months free screen replacement if it cracked from accidents.

  • I don't know anyone who shops at Samsung Australia. Everything is sold at RRP. You can find more than 10% discounts elsewhere. Like ebay.

    • -1

Do you realise what you said? haha

You can find them 10% cheaper elsewhere… So that means you'd save $150 off of RRP… Which is exactly what this offer is giving you direct from Samsung.

      • Do you realise what you said? haha

Do you even read what you respond to?

You can find them 10% cheaper elsewhere… So that means you'd save $150 off of RRP… Which is exactly what this offer is giving you direct from Samsung.

Read what you quoted again. Again.

You can find more than 10% discounts elsewhere. Like ebay.

Which means it will soon be found cheaper than buying direct from Samsung, even with this $150 cashback.

  • Would price drop protection still apply to this?

    • Don't see why not.

  • I've embraced a new philosophy.
Get last year's Note device in about 4 months the latest one is launched.

By then, the yesteryear model would be proved design-fault free, and would be selling at half the original price?
And yet; it still would be still be among the top phones in the market?

I guess, had the Note7 lived, it would remain a super star despite the arrival of Note8?
And selling for half the introduction price by Jan 2018?

Applies to all cutting edge electronics out there; I agree.
Gotta resist the urge to splurge; gotta find that patience.

  • Thanks Op.

I think I am getting hooked. One thing to be noted here though: the wireless charger looks exactly like the one that was on sale by TGG a few weeks back, which I bought for less than $60.

Anyway, 10% off - it would be a few months wait for retailers to drop the price of the new phone …

    Let's bite this.

  • I read on whirlpool that if you previously owned the Note 7 and have proof of purchase you can get $250 discount. If that is true, how would you also make use of this Amex offer? Is this exclusively to be used to buy the Phone at the rep of $1499?

    • Only a $250 discount? Wow. The US got more than double that discount.

If that is true, how would you also make use of this Amex offer? Is this exclusively to be used to buy the Phone at the rep of $1499?

You would need to add other items to the cart to bring the total above $1499. But I'm not sure if you can get your $250 discount online.

      • To my understanding, the US One is for a trade in of specific models (which I don't have) and if they don't meet the requirements once sent in you only get a credit of $25 and you don't get your phone back….also read someone was denied the $250 after emailing Samsung so could just be pot luck!! Will soon find out!

If I can just add anything to the order to bring it to the $1499 min then be awesome :)

        • I emailed Samsung, verified my Note 7 receipt and got $250 discount code. If I use it then I won't get the Amex discount. Boo

        • @wing32:
At least you got a code! When did you contact them? Hubby is still waiting for a response since sending an email on Saturday :(

Where was your original note 7 purchase from?

          still an extra $100 savings!

        • @KupoHo:
I bought mine online via the Samsung website.

I contacted them on Facebook and they gave me an email to verify my Note I purchase and then sent me a $250 discount code!

Actually I got a reply from them within a couple of days!

  • Good deal, but I rather use my 28c MC and claim price protection in 6 months.

Once the phone is released, they will most likely take away the free fast charger, I say the phone price will drop to around $1300, in 6 months maybe $1000. Get $500 back at that time.

    • +1

It has to be from the same place you bought it. Samsung direct is probably not going to drop their price.

If you use Coles Mastercard you get 2 years protection. It's certainly going to have siginificant price drops after 2 years.

      • true, but I will buy online, ebay, mobileciti etc

  • Samsung gave me a $250 discount code (I was an ex Note 7 owner).

This means I won't get the $150 off using Amex. That sucks. =/

    • +1

you can still use this deal. Try to buy some accessories to make 1499. You can sell them later.

      • True but I can't think of anything else I need to buy in phone accessories besides a 85 phone case so I can use it with the works charger! =/

Or can I spend on other things outside of phone accessories?

        • +1

i think anything you could spend in ONE transaction should qualify.

buy dex charger and sell may be 25$ cheaper?

i also got 250$ voucher but going to sell as not everyone got amex so someone may take that up.

  • +1

Thanks - used my AMEX last night

Good thing is I can get the $250 evoucher rather than the $250 code from Samsung - so I get $400 off :D

  • Is Amex having issues with their offers system? all unsaved offers vanished from my account. No new offers available for this card.
