Frequent Flyer Notes

Cathay Pacific is a member of the Oneworld Alliance (which Qantas is part of) and its frequent flyer program is called Asia MIles. For further details please visit here.

This economy fare travels in “N” class and earns 25% of miles flown. So for an example, a round trip from Brisbane to Hong Kong could potentially earn you 3,074 Asia Miles. The minimum amount required for a one-way Economy class redemption is 15,000 Asia Miles (Hong Kong to Taipei).

  • Can I use QFF to upgrade Cathay flights?

    • if you book it as a Qantas flight (code shared with Cathay)

    • +3

Lol no. QFF points can only be used to upgrade on QF flights. Even if this fare applied to QF flights, you still wouldn't be able to upgrade because you can't upgrade sale fares.

      • QF has recently changed the rule to allow upgrade even for sale fare. But it is not value for money tho!

        https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/flying/using-points-qantas…

        • Wrong.

You may request an international Classic Upgrade Reward~ from:

          • Economy~~~ (excluding Discount Economy E, N, O and Q class₪) to Premium Economy (where availableπ)
          • Economy~~~ (excluding Discount Economy E, N, O and Q class₪) to Business

Sale fares are in the Discount Economy classes.

    • You can upgrade using QFF point IF (a big if)
      1) the flight is a QF codeshare flight and
      2) you book it under the QF number and
      3) you add your booking to your QF account (phone or online)

In this instance you really need to do research to make sure it meet all of the criteria above. From my experience with this sort of promotion from CX, usually it is either not meet the criteria above or it will be an expensive fare. Good luck.

      • That's also wrong.

It needs to be a Qantas-operated flight, not just a flight with a Qantas codeshare flight number.

See the link you mentioned above:

You can request an international Classic Upgrade Reward for Qantas operated services with a QF flight number from 1 to 199~ on your ticket any time after you have paid for your ticket and received confirmation, up until 24 hours before your flight leaves.

  • Good deal. I paid $700 for MEL-FUK for March next year on Singapore Airlines.

What is so good about Cathay Pacific? (Honest question)

I ask ask as I booked a one way flight direct from Melb to Tokyo on Qantas for $380 departing on Nov 7, which is practically half this price.

EDIT: My mistake, these are return prices, doesn't actually say that anywhere in the deal haha

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I cant seem to find those cheap deals anymore and have updated the title accordingly. Bear in mind this deal was posted 4 days ago.
