  • How much is a Hoyts ticket these days?

    • +4

No idea. But I get mine with Optus Perks… and they come in at $11.50/ticket (adults).

      • Try to go to one that charge you $15 a ticket from Optus perk. It is a much better experience for not much more.

  • Yay Im silver!

  • The value's not going to blow anyone's socks off, but nice to get some points for free! Probably a counter to Village's free rewards program which lets you clock up points pretty quickly and very visibly reminds you about the rewards you can redeem.

    • The HOYTS Dollars will still be accumulated for Silver members, so this is an additional benefit.

  • Seems like I can pick up flyers points almost anywhere now

Well, it's worth reflecting that Qantas' PRIMARY BUSINESS is now selling frequent flyer points — they make far more money from that than selling tickets for flights. Reflect on that. Qantas is officially a loyalty points company, with an airline as a side business.

      • that's insane.

Well, it's not quite like that. Even the linked article above says it will be 2020 before loyalty is the largest division - and that's with the flight profit spread amongst 3 other divisions (combined they way exceed loyalty).

From the latest stats, loyalty is the 3rd of 4, with Domestic first - $645m, Jetstar second - $417m, loyalty third - $369m, and international close at $327m.

As for your claim that "they make far more money from that than selling tickets for flights. Reflect on that. " that's completely wrong.

Revenue from flights was ~$15 billion. Revenue from loyalty was… $1.5billion. So only 10%

  • so question is, how much do we have to spend to make going silver worth it from a QFF point of view only. so say 0.65c (is that accurate?) value per point and $13 joining fee. and remebering silver earn 2 points per $1 and bronze earn 1 point per $2 so 4x earning rate.

You get a free movie ticket included. Valuing it at $11.50 with Optus Perks, membership costs $1.50.

If you earn 150 QFF points you would break even. Buy 4 more movie tickets with Optus Perks and you would more than break even.

      • movie of the week ticket only.
