Someone in previous deal mentioned the headaches they've had with it and Dell's refusal to fix

      • +4

I brought a refurbished laptop from Dell, I opened the box to find half it's screen was broken.

Dell were nothing but evasive and unwilling to fix it.

They are not worth the money saved.

Couldn't you take a photo of the said damage and claim a chargeback for goods not suitable for use?

      • Often you get a sanitised version of how things went tits up. I would expect if Dell were shockers to deal with in general it would be well known, and widespread given they would have substantial market presence. It wouldnt be hard to find the same complaint, by many people on the net. A quick search kind of reveals they may be monkeys to deal with. A couple seem to refute that, but they read like spam.

That said, I spoke to their live chat a couple of days ago about why I need to buy warranty when I have the Aus Consumer Guarantee, I got silence for a good 5 minutes before the canned response came, "Dell comply completely with ACG". But no specific answers to the question, what do I get for my extra money, and what happens with onsite v off site in the event of a problem, as in where does the system need to go, is it local, a central depot in Sydney only, Malaysia? In response I was told "I dont know" and told to ring the 1300 number. He did say somethign about its quicker witht eh extra warranty. I assume because its onsite, but they do make you trouble shoot first. And I did read in that thread you mention, its been a substantial task to troubleshoot for them.

Additionally they falsely state that products are in stock and will be delivered within a few days then, after you pay the money, they send you a shipping advice saying it will take a month or more to get delivery…I needed it for a son starting uni so I called them and after a long wait on the phone got an offshore monkey who went through his script and wouldn't respond when I asked him to explain why they said in stock 3 day delivery when they are not in stock and would take over a month… it was only when I threatened to contact fair trading that they returned my money (originally they said it would take several weeks for a refund…I advised them they took the payment instantly so I expected a refund to be as quick!)

I refuse to use them again as they stuffed me around so much.

We can't possibly get 8% cash back on outlet can we? I already know the answer but worth a shot :)

Thanks. It also has a 256GB SSD making it better than scotty's deal imo.

  • Any free-sync monitors?

  • I thought dell Australia doesn't offer cashback anymore as last time I visited CashReward and I couldn't find Dell website

This is a great deal. Just want to make people aware that the wait time could be long. I'm waiting on a cash back from the 21st of July for the 15 7000 gaming

    • if you are set on the 15 7000, might be worth to wait a bit longer as Dell will be upgrading the gtx card to 1060 instead of 1050ti, which is quite a big improvement

      • If the new one you're referring to is anywhere near the price I paid I'm going to cry :'(…

I feel slightly better reading the price (USD) in this article though

        http://www.anandtech.com/show/11780/dell-announces-updates-t…

Since the base price of the new unit + 1050 should start at 999USD, my best guess is that the 1060 variant will be similarly priced to competing brands which will make it cost prohibitive for someone like me!

  • The new 8th gen processors will be out in the next couple of months. Dell has already started announcing updates.

    • Is there much different with the new gen? The last few "generations" have seemed like refreshes etc.

      • The 15W U series chips will be quad cores. No details on the 45Ws yet.

  • Too bad I'm not in the market for a laptop
