  • Definitely worth checking out, Acer have really lifted their game, I'd purchase from them well before Dell, maybe even HP or Lenovo.

I feel like you haven't use the Dell XPS series if you're saying you'd purchase from Acer before Dell.

      • +7

Please inform me where I can get a Dell XPS for $653 because I would take that over this Acer. Factoring in cost, I personally think this Acer is better, but better than HP? That's the real test.

        • XPS is XPS, just like MacBook, you wouldn't ask someone if you can get a MacBook for $700 right?

Though I have to say XPS 13 has many competition and some are better value. XPS 15 now that is a different ball game. I have not seem a machine that can pack so many stuff in it and remain so thin. Not exactly light though but its still piece of excellent engineering.

          @syswong: aero 15

        • @syswong:

Yeah but you can manage to get XPS 13 on discount every now and then which makes it very competitive.

        • @XanderYuan: GB build quality is really questionable. Bough one few years back and swear I will never go back to them. Especially for a 3K laptop.

          @serpserpserp:
Spectra and XPS 13 even after discount are still way over priced. You can have more less the same thing with an Asus Zenbook, which is always at least 30% cheaper.

        • @syswong: Razer Blade 2017. With Max-Q designs, more laptops like these will become available

  • +1

If you don't mind the weight (1.6KG a bit too heavy for my liking), a good buy for the specs and price, esp. it comes with a back-lit keyboard.

  • +2

Good price. No USB C though which is a bit of a shame.

  • Damnit. Already have a surface pro 4 and this is very enticing.

    • You could sell your SP4 and get this instead hahaha
Similarly, I have a (lacklustre) cheap x360 but looking for something to get that's better (without the massive price tag), this might be the one!

    • I was just about to get an SP4, most 2-in-1s cheaper than the SP4 didn't have anywhere near the specs of the SP4. Those that could come close to the SP4s specs were only cheaper by a bit or pricier so this Acer hits the sweet spot for me. Not too pricey for a decently powered lappy that can flip its screen. Still hard to go past the 3:2 aspect ratio of the Surface though.

  • US $499 AU~$627 showing for me, even better!

    • add shipping me thinks

      • Hmmm, not sure if this is just simply for the states but it said free shipping? Not sure if that means free intl shipping or not; others I saw had to pay for shipping though.

        • +4

Amazon is never free shipping to Australia. If it says it on the page that means for the country of the amazon site you're on.

        • @wetsandwich: Shame :( Some things I have bought on amazon do have "free international shipping".

        • @pennypincher98: Oh really? I hadn't seen any.

But still, their international shipping is usually still a lower price than getting something from one side of Melbourne to the other via Aus post, so it's all good.

        • +1

@wetsandwich: Not on computers or the like; some smaller or less expensive things though sure.
Yeah have to agree the international shipping rates are quite good, better than Auspost that's for sure!!

        • @wetsandwich: there was that one time… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170818

good lord i spent a lot of money that money

  • I was gonna wait for Kaby Lake R. I held off on the ASUS UX430UA for ~$1050 after ebay discount, but this… I'm sold.

  • showing up as $678 delivered to Sydney

    • Same for me, $678 delivered to Adelaide.

~AU $653 is the approxiate conversion if you pay in USD directly with a fee free card such as 28 degrees or bankwest zero (if you pay in AUD, amazon has a bad conversion rate)

      • Hi OP, which card did you use to get $653..pending auth on my Citiplus Visa Debit card is $657.63, so your card looks better.

        • +2

Check this post out, it has a list of all the fee free cards. All of them should get you something close to the quoted price.

    this has international warranty?

Can this thing play games at a decent clip? I'm thinking old games like Skyrim on full detail etc.

I was thinking about getting a Xiaomi Air Notebook 13, but now I see this…

    • Qualitywise Xiaomi is a lot better

    • +1

Cheapest Xiaomi Air 13 is about ~$850 from LITB so this is ~$200 cheaper

      Intel HD Graphics

      lol

Might also be eligible for 6% cashrewards to?

    • Cashrewards link says "up to 6%" for Amazon, and is only for specific categories (of which Electronics is not one).

  • I suppose the RAM is not user upgradeable in this?

  • Purchased one, was looking for a 2 in 1 with decent processing power. Costed $678.30, paid in AUD incl $27.14 shipping to Melbourne

I'm assuming the charge cable will be a US 2 pin power plug. Is there a better option than to carry around a travel adaptor so that this works in Australian power outlets?

    • +1

Aren't most of the plugs in two parts? Ie the thing you plug into the black box with green light (transformer or something maybe?) and the black box plug to computer. So you would only need to source the general plug?

Sorry for the less than technical explanation but honestly have no clue about what they are lol

      • I had wondered if this could be done, however would the voltage/amps etc be compatible?

    • +1

Is there a better option than to carry around a travel adaptor so that this works in Australian power outlets?

You can buy replacement power cables with the appropriate connection (figure 8 or clover leaf usually). I bought a US laptop about 5 years ago, went to Jaycar and got a replacement cable for maybe $10. Never had the slightest issue.

To be clear, you are just replacing the part which runs from the powerpoint to the power brick. Basically all laptop power bricks are multi-voltage so as long as you can power to it, it will be fine.

  • This is a great price.

Got one for double the RAM (16GB) for $910 from a 20% off tech ebay sale a few months ago which was already a good price, so this for ~$650 is really really good.

  • +1

Awesome deal but I'm holding out for the 8th gen chips. Haven't been this excited for new chips in a while.

  • I'm never touching Acer again - atrocious manufacturer warranty

  • Looks like USD $499 price no longer available? Thanks OP, I managed to get one yesterday. Can't wait to get it :)

  • Just unboxed the new lappie. Touch screen is not working :(
Now the lengthy battle with Acer starts to get this repaired/replaced..

    • +1

Remember Amazon has a 30 day refund policy which should cover manufacturer defects

      • +1

Yep..As expected Acer are hopeless. They refused to repair under warranty here in Australia and asked to send it back to the US. Amazon are great and have agreed to pay for shipping it back. Unfortunately this is sold out so they cannot replace but will refund in full.
