    They actually give a pretty good rtsp stream for such a cheap device once you get out of the xiaomi walled cloudy garden with https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks but do not allow the device to upgrade to the latest xiaomi firmware when you first connect or the hack won't work until you downgrade - which can be painful. I have one and will probably get another. While the fanghacks are running tinycam and VLC work fine as viewers. I prefer to stop the device from constantly phoning home to xiaomi and the ads and notifications in chinese from their app get old quickly.

      are there alternate models or brands that cost a little more that can do this?

      also is there a windows software i can use to stream multiple cameras at once via a simple CCTV type layout, instead of having say 4 VLC windows open?

  I want to use this as a baby monitor. Does this have any visible light at night at all? e.g. with IR or a status LED.

    Has both IR and a status light. You can turn the status light off in the settings through in the app. I'm using mine out of the box without the hack.

  The mac34 version seems like hate the connectiing process, I can never get mi home to work. (it's a 3 star app, ikr)

  Basically, hack it asap, and use all 3rd software /app to do what ever you want
