Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X 3/16GB $135 Delivered (SG) from ShopMonk

550

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X at an amazing price at Shopmonk!

Link is for the Black version

Grey - https://shopmonk.com.au/xiaomi-redmi-note-4x-grey-16-gb
Gold - https://shopmonk.com.au/xiaomi-redmi-note-4x-gold-16-gb

This phone is compatible with the new Google HDR+ Modded camera application, so its main shortcoming, the camera, is now no longer an issue!

I believe their site also has the 32GB version for about $185 but I feel that is a massive price jump just for 16GB more storage and same RAM

  • Which ones nicer? Black, grey or gold? I like the white front on the gold but black looks nice too. Choices choices.

  • can you use it for android pay?

    • +2

      Nope

    • +2

i dont think this has NFC, so nope. If u want NFC buy a moto g5 plus for approx 300bucks

      • +4

        Or even better a Mi5

  • +1

LOL. Was just about to post this. :-)
The price does seem too good to be true and the price for the 32gb sort of confirms it.
Worth a try, hope people score the deal!
Some report the camera is so so and other say it is very good?? Anyway, for what it is this is a bargain.

    • +1

camera samples from the default software:
      https://www.flickr.com/photos/148406140@N05/sets/72157680483…

If u install the modded hdr+ app the photos would be even better than this

      • Might depend on the lens sensor you score too… the Note 4 & 4X are not all the same, some have samsung and some omnivision, its pot luck and no way for the seller to know either so dont ask. The sony sensors seem to not show up much now.
Often it is the operator and not the camera too.

        • +1

yeah i think the difference between the samsung and sony sensors isnt that huge, not sure how bad the OV sensor is though

        • @nathan-drake:
I have not seen anyone report getting a sony sensor one for a while now, most are samsung or omnivision. I also read that Omnivision bought out the Sony mobile sensor business too… not sure how accurate that is.

      • Which google hdr+ apk is it that works with this phone? And is any additional fiddling needed?

I can't find any that says it works for snapdragon 625. The one I tried didn't work (crashes when opening).

Edit: got a snapdragon 625 okta core.

        • theres one on the xiaomi reddit posted yesterday apparently it works on the redmi note 4x. Moto g5 plus and moto z play doesnt work because moto restricts its phones to 32bit roms for some reason

  • Would one of these be much of an upgrade from my Samsung s4?

    • +2

it would be an upgrade in every area, except maybe camera. However you can install a modded HDR+ camera app (requires some technical fiddling) that would make the photos better than the galaxy s4

    • +1

Are you having problems with your S4?
They are awesome phones and still work great if all you're doing is making calls and checking some websites with a 4g sim card.

Also plenty of roms if you want to root it.

      • +1

Lucky to get half a day out of the battery and constantly running out of internal storage.

        • Well the battery issue is easily resolved by buying a new one. That's the great thing about a phone with a removable battery.
Not sure about storage if you've already got the maximum size micro sd card installed.

        • +1

@WatchNerd:maybe I need to root the phone as a lot of apps won't allow me to move them to the sd card.

        • +1

@ausbob71: Customs roms can improve battery life also. Here is a good article on the subject -
Why You Should Buy A Samsung Galaxy S4 and Learn To Root Android

        • @WatchNerd: Assuming you can look after apps, almost all of the power savings in custom roms come from changing the CPU governor setting which controls how the CPU throttles itself so it's easier to root and install an app to change the governor (and lower the performance of your device).

Almost all stock devices use the onDemand governor setting which immediately changes the CPU clock to maximum as soon as something such as an app uses the CPU and then slowly lowers the speed if nothing keeps using the CPU.

If there aren't many governor available on your devices the you can flash a 3rd party kernel onto your stock firmware with more governor schemes.

        • +1

@WatchNerd: the S4 has possibly the worst battery life out of any phone I have ever used even after changing the battery out for a new one. Other than that it was a great phone.

        • @morgs640: Did you try a custom rom?

        • +2

@ausbob71: best idea is to get a ROM like Lineage, enable Adoptable Storage and let the operating system treat the SD as internal storage.
all apps work on it and there's no fiddling, it's quite nice

        • +1

@Droidyy: I have rooted the phone and installed twrp as the boot recovery and going to install lineage os. Thanks guys for the advice.

        • @ausbob71:

          links to the procedures please.

        • +4

@vjknight: I watched a few youtube videos and looked at some tutorials and finally got there.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctu5yZqjwxY
          http://highonandroid.com/android-roms/how-to-install-custom-…
          https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develo…
          http://www.cyanogenmods.org/forums/topic/galaxy-s4-lineage-1…

The main thing is to backup the contents of your phone (I used myphoneexplorer), root the phone (I used kingroot app), replace the boot recovery (I used twrp), erase files using twrp and install custom os of your choice (I installed lineage os).

          Hope that helps.

    • not much in cpu performance

  • Help which is better between this and this —(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/327016)

    • that one u linked is not as good as this one. Although that one is much more compact at 5 inches. i would defs grab this one. I do actually own that phone, my bro is using it without issues. the processor and storage are much slower than this phone however.

      • aren't both thesame size?my bad they have different specs

        • +1

No. Kalupets link is for the Xiaomi Redmi 4 version which is 5".
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 version is 5.5".
The 4 has Snapdragon 435 processor where the Note 4 has the Snapdragon 625 processor (and some note models have the MediaTek Helio X20)
Easy to mix the two phones. I wonder how many people have actually bought a Redmi 4 when they wanted a Redmi Note 4?? Easy done.

        • +2

@xywolap: the Redmi note 4 not 4X has the helio x20 not the X10

        • @morgs640:
My bad, the note 2 and 3 had the x10, the note 4 the x20.
          https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model-cpu/9910413e

    • +1

I got the regular 4x 5" (didn't realise there was a CPU difference) there were no specials on either phone at the time anyhow apart from eBay 20% off.

The note struck me at being a bit large (I was using an iPhone 4S), a 5" phone already seems a bit large to me. Maybe the only downside to the smaller phone is the CPU is not compatible with this Hdr app people are mentioning in this thread.

  • Does this come with the global rom or the chinese rom?

    • +3

      Chinese

      • Thank you

      • Hi,

Is it better to buy the international version with global rom? Or buying this and flash to global rom? Thanks

        • +1

4X versions usually come with global/international rom. The sellers usually indicate this on their site but Shopmonk had not with this listing.
The factory global version of this phone is the Note 4 but only comes with a 32 or 64gb rom and start around the $190?au mark.
The the other difference is the Note 4X does not have the band 20 the Note 4 has but that is not a big factor.
I went for the 4X version but preflashed with the global rom from another supplier.

  • +1

I don't need a phone currently, though my lenovo K3 note with 2gb ram is getting slow and the touch screen has a dead patch the size of a 10c coin on the upper right side (a common problem for this phone - I've bought a replacement touchscreen but haven't gotten around to swapping it out…)

being tight, I'll skip this deal, however it is an excellent deal for a great phone at an awesome price.

MEMORY Card slot microSD up to 256 GB (uses SIM 2 slot)

    • +2

weve chatted before about the K3 and this is my replacement. unreal price.

  • Bought one..thanks OP

  • Thanks bought one I guess 2nd sim is 2g.

    • +1

2nd sim is 3g in the older RN3 so i assume here it is also

    • This review says 2nd sim in the 4X is 3g.

      My note 4X 3G 32G
      I have Telstra on 4G sim 1 and Optus 3G sim 2

      • Interested to get one. Can. You comment on your 4x using experience?

        • +1

Plenty on whirlpool IT. From what I read it is pretty good but with the odd hic up but that happens with most of these things. Main complaint seems to be broken screens but again that is common with the $1000 ones with screens this size. Best idea is to not bounce it on concrete :-)
I would not have one without a flip case anyway.
One guy complained because it was bent.. he had it in his pocket and sat on it DOH!

        • I have the 32GB
for the money it is a great phone
          camera not great

  • Thankx OP, grabbed one. But I got bought the black one which you haven't linked.
Link to the Black - https://shopmonk.com.au/xiaomi-redmi-note-4x-black-16-gb

    • Has anyone flashed the Note 4x with the Global ROM/ Internation Version?

Edit: Found the below links along with numerous other posts after quick Google, got go through them once the device is delivered.

      • +2

you can just install the official global MIUI through the updater app. Go to the miui official downloads page:
        http://en.miui.com/download.html

No need to root or unlock bootloader etc unless u want to install a stock android rom

    • +1

It is linked. on the right side under the preview site picture there is big writing that says "Go to Deal"

      • Thank you mate for pointing out this and the ROM related details. Cheers.

    • +3

But I got bought the black one which you haven't linked

The main OP/thumbnail link is the black one.

      • Thanks, didn't realise it was the case.

  • Is that identical to this? https://www.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-4X-Fingerprint-5_…

Bought for $165 x 3 for family 2 days ago and if identical, will cancel the other order and order this.

    • yes its identical

    • yep, identical

      • Thank you mate. They only accept paypal huh? Can't pay with CC?

        • +1

you can choose to pay with CC during the PP process.

  • -2

    Up $20 - Bait & $witch?

    • Yea….price is $155?

      • same……

    • Grey still showing at $135

      • but that's oos

    • +7

Where's the bait? The price was $135 before and now it's $155. Moreover it wasn't the rep who advertised it nor was there any duration stipulated on the sale price. Shopmonk.com.au are a credible mob trying to establish themselves in the Australian market and ought to be supported.

To cut it short, you snooze you lose.

      • showing as 135 for me

        • Try buying it then.

  • -1

    Party's over.

  • Can this support 4g/3G standby simultaneously? I heard note 4 does.

    • +1

According to numerous comments above, yes

  • +2

This is misleading i ordered black redmi note 4X 3GB ram 16GB but it turns out in order history that it's 2GB ram not 3gb..

    • -2

Now that'd be bait and switch if that was so. Not good for Shopmonk.com.au reputation here on OzB

    • I saw that happen with a practice order last night with one of their listings, sure it was the black also.

    • Is there even a 2Gb variant in 4x Note? Anyhow, Processor Snapdragon 625 is 3GB for sure so I ain't worried at all.

    • From my order XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 4X (BLACK, 16 GB, RAM 3 GB)
      SKU: SMK-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-4X-Black-2GB+16-GB.

So is it 3gig or 2gig ram I ordered thinking 3gigs

And is this 5inch or 5.5 inch screen.

    • Mine just got dispatched says 3gb ram on invoice hope it is the same when it arrives.

Gone to the dogs… Expired in 2 hours.

2 sim slots, or 1x sim slot and a mSd slot. Seems they cheaped out on an important feature.

    • +3

Any other phone with these specs and price that can take 2 sims plus a msd?

      • +1

Most dual SIM phones with micro SD are the same one SIM slot 1 hybrid slot

  • Grey is still $135

    • +1

      OOS

      • What's OOS?

        • +1

          Overly Odorous Skunk

        • out of stock :)

        • @CVonC: haha thanks mate :)

  • FYI

From my shipping info after purchasing:

"Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X (Gold, 16 GB, RAM 3 GB)

    SKU: SMK-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-4X-Gold-2GB+16-GB
    1 AU $135.00"

    • The description is for 3GB variant. I'm not worried.

  • My Xiaomi Note 4X arived about a week ago… absolutely hate it! Came with a Global Rom installed and does nothing but crash every couple of minutes. Tying to fix issue as I speak. Regretting my purchase going back to Samsung for sure.

    • It is like my Xiaomi Mi Box, a great device for the price but the constant crashes gets a little annoying.

    • +2

mate check out this wiki, u likely have a dodgy shop firmware:
      https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/roms/reseller

      pretty easy to fix

ps dont get samsung, get google pixel or apple iphone instead….samsung software is terrible and laggy and bloated

      • +1

Samsung software is bloated but I won't say laggy.

        • -2

phones like the oneplus 5 and moto z2 force open apps quicker than the s8

      • Interesting comment on that link..
"Reseller ROMs cannot be updated using the Updater app so if you receive any updates over-the-air, you have an official ROM."

    • +3

Just install your own ROM on it man…

There's heaps of awesome ones on XDA forums. I've just installed Viper OS and It's like Stock Android on steroids :D
      Smooth as butter.

  • I was going to get a note 4x, but decided to buy a ZTE Axon 7, twice the price at $500 but I figured Google Daydream would be nice to have.
