      • Found it, bought one, thanks!

  • Does this allow unlimited spotify?

  • Shame I have a Telstra mobile broadband dongle, unlocking fees kill the deal..
Still great value though and better than the $20 for 14gb deal!

    • +1

If you have a spare phone use that as a dongle.

If its the huawei E8372 one that they sold for about $9 at coles, then that can be unlocked by downgrading firmware and fishing out the unencrypted unlock code.

      • or Unlock it for $3 ^^^

        • I unlocked 2 of them for free already. :)

        • @Mnke:

          Or unlock it for $3

      • It's a Telstra Huawei E8372 (I think) that auspost was selling for $19 with 3gb.
Is it as hard as it sounds to unlock that way?

        • Followed some comments from: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/297836#comment-4534881

Needed to download some files, but it was worth it. It's a long process. I put the original telstra firmware back on after unlocked, as the others don't show any reception stats.

        • @Mnke: I know I'm cheap, but I think I'd prefer to pay the $3, sounds too long to be bothered with! Thanks anyway :)

  • Is it just possible to use the sim card for a month and just throw it away?

    • +1

Why not just leave it around somewhere just in case :)
A true ozbargainer doesn't throw away anything that has potential future value, even if it doesn't haha

  • Thanks. Picked it up for some cheap data on the tablet.

  • How long is the expiry on the sim after activation? Do you have to open before 1/10/17 to get the bonus 10gb?

    • +5

the expiry is usually 28 days and the amount of bonus data could vary, depends on the promotion when you activate the card.

I have a SIM purchased at least 6 months ago (also discounted , thanks Ozbargain!) , the promotion at that time is 4GB (or 6GB, i dont remember). I recently activated the SIM and it give me 14GB and 28 days expiry.

i bet, if you keep the card now, and wait until the next promotion (say 20GB), you will get 20GB then.

and if you activate the card after 1/10/17, you may get the basic 4GB only.

    • "For use in Australia within 30 days"

  • Thanks OP, I am in same situation as you and just about to run out of my half price Vodafone Data from an earlier deal, awesome timing!

  • As soon as I try to complete the purchase by PayPal or choosing the option to pay via credit card, it spits me back to www.optus.com.au

    Chrome, Firefox and IE
    Anyone else getting this issue?

    • work perfectly fine from my end. win7 + chrome

great! exactly just what I need now for fttn activation issue that I'm having.

6 weeks & counting, for me.
The lack of communication & misinformation makes me seriously mad. And I'm genuinely being patient & polite.

It's 2017. Internet is an essential service.

wow, unbelievable! Hope your internet back online soon. Meanwhile, I've just received prepaid sim today. Tried to activate it online, no good. Over the phone, no luck. Told to visit optus shop, then I went but they were hopeless to give a solution. Finally spoke to someone from their online sale team and he agreed to send out a new replacement. So no internet for me this weekend! [sad]

        • +2

          Same!

Received in mail. Activation online failed. Online chat said dodgy sim. I highlighted it's just a number, sim is still in packet. They couldn't do anything, told me to swap at local optus store. Shop only sells $2 sim. Gave me one, tried sending me away. I pushed for them to activate & transfer credit for me. Halfway through, they were cutoff. Restarted. Sim finally activated. "Can't transfer credit for up to 48hrs, because it doesn't show on their system yet". Spent 4.5 min even in their phone menu system. Then handballed. Very confused staff member. Total 8.5min to find out the credit is already on there, somehow.

          C'mon, where's the hidden camera.

        • Got my replacement sim, and it's a dud again. PayPal dispute here I come.

been three days, what a nightmare experience to activate a sim with Optus…..

    • +1

Same here. Optus customer service is unable to activate my SIM.

      • +1

Any progress? I'm facing walls and walls to their live chat, YES crowd forum, Optus store. No one can give that 14GB to my sim or replacement sim……

        • Please see my steps above.

        • @YogaPants: Thanks man, I did the similiar steps last night 9pm, upto need to wait for 48 hours, but 14GB still has not applied yet. I guess need to phone them again.

    • Looks like not only me receiving expired sim card? Tried calling support and waited 30mins this afternoon, very disappointed.

  • Ugh, I am getting the same dreaded error trying to activate, talking the live chat now and they are acting like there's nothing wrong and they've never come across this issue before.
Too bad I needed to use it this weekend :/

Unable to activate these SIM cards and no solution given. How to get a refund?

    • +2

Bloody useless! Bought 2 for overseas visitors, and cannot activate. No 24 hour phone support, and chat line says the only solution was to go to Optus Store during business hours?! Its the worse pre-paid service I've ever received compared to places like Cambodia, Vietnam, Moscow etc!

    • I was told I needed to speak to the online sales team for a refund, they are only available by phone and only Mon-Fri.
I haven't called them yet as I was able to go into an Optus shop yesterday, they gave me a $2 SIM free, activated it and sent me on my way telling me I needed to speak to online chat today so they could transfer the credit from the dodgy SIM to the new one.

Haven't done it yet as I left the SIMs at home today, will try this afternoon.

      • I found the online chat people could do nothing to transfer the credit to the replacement sim and just kept telling me to go back to the store. The store just refer you to cust service who tell you it can take 3 to 5 days (one even said 7 days) but mine has been longer than this and still no credit!!

  • Same here, they told me the sim was faulty and to go to an Optus world store for a sim swap which I did. Trouble is there is no credit on the new sim and I have made numerous phone calls to various deptpartments but no one can help. Very poor service Optus and off to the ombudsman I go. I was just to sign up for their unlimited NBN fixed plan as well but no chance after this experience.

  • +1

I was told the same. $30 sim card was faulty and told to go in store to get a free mobile broadband simcard. Activated that and still no credit transfer. Frst I was told it would be within 3 hours. Nothing happened and I was told credit will be transferred in 24 hours then nothing and today I have been told 5 working days. Optus is a joke!!

    • Same boat

  • oh no. i have the same activation problem .. PPACT-SIMVAL-0008 . from the comments above, seems I have to visit the optus shop.. but i need the mobile broadband tomorrow !

  • Same here. Faulty sim can't be validated. Talked to online chat multiple times. Went to store three times. Issue remains. Completely waste of time. TAlking with online team likes talking to walls. WTF! "YES OPTUS" Will never use Optus again, even if it is free. Should I dispute transaction with PayPal or go to ACCC?

    • I would open a dispute claim with PayPal instead, TIO route can takes a while to get it sorted.

      • Thanks, mate. PayPal then.

  • Having the exact issues as above, and came back to this post. This is crazy, why are they sending people a bunch of dud sim cards

Got this error when activating online: "We are having trouble validating the SIM number, please try again or try using another SIM card. Reference: PPACT-SIMVAL-0008"

  • Got refund from PayPal. Farewell Optus
