Shockingly good deal on a 1700X. It's been this price before but still a bargain.

Local delivered prices for a 1700 (non x) usually runs about $440 so this is exceptional when you consider it's the 1700x and delivery is about $10-$15.

The 1700 is the same price at the time of posting!

edit: and back up to 309.99 USD which is still pretty good at ~AU$384

    That's a damn good deal

FYI with X series there's no Wraith fan included, so be sure to research and throw in AM4 cooler as well before you purchase

    • +1

That Wraith cooler is pretty cool ;)
I think it was manufactured by CoolerMaster, which is a great brand for fans.

Wraith's actually better than the Hyper Evo 212.

Theres really no difference between the binning of the 1700 and 1700X chips. However, the 1700 comes out of the box with lower frequency and TDP of 65W rating. The 1700X comes with higher frequency and TDP of 95W. I think "The Deal" is with the 1700, then overclock that to 3.9-4.1GHz on the Stock Wraith Cooler. But this 1700X is still a bargain, especially compared to Intel Sky/Kaby/Coffee.

      • Cool, but aftermarket cooler level of PITA to install.

  • +1

Yep, got this last time it was this price + a X370 board that was 40% off , arrived in 4 days, very glad as I am pretty sure the 1700 would have underwhelmed me…

  • Man, bought a 1700 for $429 last week, stepped on it, bent pins, bought another for $440, then this comes up.

    • $429 !!! This was cheaper during the 20% off http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AMD-Ryzen-7-1700-Processor-16-MB-…
      ofc $469 x 0.20

      • I did buy that one first actually - thought I paid more.

      Who steps on a CPU…

      • +8

Maybe he misunderstood the term "CPU Stepping"… and decided to take it into his own hands (or feet)

      • +1

Who even puts a CPU anywhere near where you could step on it!

        • Maybe Janko is a giant?
Shows how resilient the Ryzen chips are, supporting his weight whilst only sacrificing a few bent pins :D

      • Chip comes in a black box similar to but smaller than a pack a cards - must have knocked off table when populating case onto dark floor - didn't see it.

    • +1

Not sure why you got negged, but bad luck man. Feel for ya.

    • Damn, but at least it was your fault! I ordered an 1800X from Amazon when it was on sale a few weeks back. It arrived with 3-4 severely bent pins. Absolutely horrible packaging on the part of AMD. The CPU clam shell had A LOT of room to move around so the corner pins got bent in transit.

    • +1

AMD CPUs use pins? I assumed they were painless like the Intel CPUs.

      • +2

Threadripper is pinless and the motherboards have the pins just like intel
Ryzen has the pins and the motherboards are pinless but have a female pin array ready for the cpu to slot in

all current intel CPU's are pinless..

        • Cheers !

        • +2

          @leftspeaker2000:
There's always a pin. Intel has it on the Motherboard, AMD has it on the CPU.

If you change CPU's often, you want the pins on the CPU.
That way your motherboard won't have bent pins, and can be kept as a donor for upgrades.

If you change Motherboards often, you want the pins on the Motherboard.
That way your CPU won't have bent pins, and you can keep the CPU while changing the Motherboard.

Years back, Intel's choice was the superior as Motherboards did get new features, and CPU's hit a slump.
Eg, 2011's Core i7-2600 is still competitive with the Core i5-7500, i5-7600k, and (to a degree) the i7-7700k.
          Now?
I think AMD's direction is better.
Get a decent AM4 Motherboard now (B250/X370), don't cheap out on it, and keep it for 5 years.
You can start off with a Ryzen 1200 (4c/4t, 3.5GHz)….
          ….and upgrade to a 1500X (4c/8t, 3.9GHz), or a 1600 (6c/12t, 3.9GHz), or a 1700 (8c/16t, 3.9GHz), or a 1800X (8c/16t, 4.3GHz).

Or better yet, upgrade to Ryzen v2.0 when they start shipping in late-2018.

    • +1

Damn! That's a PC builders worst nightmare

      • +1

Spent 45 minutes straightening pins too until decided it was easier to buy a new one.

  • mad deal. copped.

  • Some of the items in your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Please select a new address to see your estimated order total.

    • I got this on the shipping estimator but putting the order through it was fine. USD $6.69 for 9-12 business days, $9.98 for 7-11 days, $32.26 for 2-5 days.

    • Was this perhaps the surge protection insurance? Same thing happened to me until I removed it.

    That's a pretty generous conversion rate…

    • Not sure if you mean the strength of the $ or an exaggerated conversion rate by OP?

      XE has 299USD as 376.24AUD

      • Ah sorry, he hasn't included shipping in the quoted price, my bad. So this or i7 7700k for a few dollars more?

        • -1

7700k and delid tool and heavy OC imo

          @philmarcracken:

considering new 8700K will have six cores, it seems crazy to go with a 4 core design today.

I would pick this any day of the week. Pair it with a B350 motherboard and you'll also save a pretty penny that you can re-invest somewhere else.

        • +1

@sabaramo: You seriously overestimate the multi-thread ability of modern game engines. It would be good for video encoding or rendering i suppose.

        • +3

          @philmarcracken:

i've watched allot of i7 7700k vs Ryzen 1700 videos

in all of them the thing i noticed the most was that the i7 7700k was being used at 100% CPU usage so its at its maxing out .. nothing left in the tank.

The Ryzen 1700 was at around 45% CPU usage.. so if it was maxed out in future games then it would provide almost twice the FPS of a i7 7700k.. future proofing is a good thing. i7 7700k is a waste of money if its only the top dog with OLD game engine today.. how long a CPU stays relevant is important

Does anyone have any recommendations for a motherboard to go with this?

    • +3

      X370

Asus X370-PRO or Asrock X370 Taichi

      or

      B350

      Asus B350-PLUS

All have solid VRM designs for the price. Taichi being the best of the lot.

      • What do you think about the ASRock AB350 Pro4? I saw people recommending it a lot. How does it fair against the Asus ones?

        • +1

I have the mATX Pro 4. Haven't had any issues. OCed RAM to 3000MHz and CPU (1600) to 3.8GHz on stock voltage and stock cooler.

      • I've got the B350 plus with my 1600. Great so far, particularly given the price.

Only disappointment is that there's no native digital audio or via spdif or HDMI from the standard I/O… And BF1 crashes now 😞

Getting AUD $399.44 for delivery incl. shipping to a parcel point in NSW.
Stated conversion rate from Amazon: 1 USD = 1.3067415016 AUD

    • getting the same thing

    • Selected payment currency
      tick USD

    • +1

Don't use the Amazon conversion rate, it's not good enough. Select to pay with USD and let your Visa/Mastercard handle the conversion. Even better if your card doesn't charge conversion fees 28Degrees etc.

i'd love to buy this but… not buying any other PC parts until i get my hands on a GFX card (first). So hard!

    • Ya! Price of graphic cards have gone through the roof.

      • You've got the crypto currency boom to thank for that.

  • any good motherboard to with it?

i have the trident Z RGB 3200 as my ram. wonder which board should i go so i can get archive the overclock and ram speed

    • See my post above.

I made those recommendations specifically for someone that wants to overclock. The VRM is what you really want to look out for.

All 3 boards will do what you need. If you don't do SLI/crossfire then the B350 board is fine.

Check the QVL from the board manufacturer to see if it's listed but in my opinion, even if there is a listing, you can't guarantee it will work until you try it yourself (happened to me on two separate builds)

  • I had resisted until now but this deal had my wallet out haha

    • paired with 10%ebay. damn what a good build. now im just wait for volta next year. This kinda of CPU is all ever i needed.

      • you can still get 6% of Amazon by cashreward.

I bought 1700x +Msi motherboard+16G ddr4. compare with ebay for the same items, even 10% off ebay, still save about $150.

        • wow that is cool. i really don't know how cash-reward works.
say the shopping cart total is 100$, with 6%, i will be able to get 6$ in my cash-reward account(and can be transferred to my bank). am i understand this correctly?

        • @Hornpub: yes. And you can withdraw your reward to your bank account later on.

  • nab charged me extra 11 dollars. now im curious if i should have gone with amazon's own currency.
