  • Someone more knowledgeable than me, is the lack of Gsync / Freesync on these monitors going to be a problem?

    • -2

A little exaggerated, but this is what games might look like without Free/ Gsync.

      https://images.techhive.com/images/article/2014/12/catalyst-…

Freesync works when the frames per sec you're getting in game does not match the refresh rate of your monitor. Example: if you're gaming at 45 fps and your monitor is running at 75hz for example, that mismatch causes screen tearing, because you're trying to fit 45 frames into a 75 frame slot.

All free sync does is change your monitors refresh rate to match your current fps, so it evenly fits 45 FPS into 45 slots.

If your games are able to run at the display's native refresh rate consistently, then G/Freesync isn't required — but you will need a beefy graphics card that can hold up that necessary frame rate to sync to your monitors refresh rate. A GTX 1060 6GB should have no problem playing most games at a solid 60 with little drops but maybe not 144 fps.

These monitors are for Esports, which are games like CS:Go, DoTA or Overwatch which will run at very high framerates on just about any decent hardware, so it isn't totally neccessary for these to have Gsync / Freesync. The other reason is Esport gamers do not like input lag, so they always keep Vsync, Gsync or Freesync turned off, as input lag is a disadvantage.

      • Would the tearing be as noticeable given the far higher refresh rate as the image is updated at more than twice the rate?

Everything in this post is wrong

        • You gonna explain why?

        • @l3wis992: He's right, that comment is a little oversimplified and not entirely valid. Running a game at your displays native refresh rate doesn't prevent screen tearing. And in fact, a higher refresh rate usually causes even more tearing because the buffer switch becomes even more out of sync with the monitors refresh cycle. It doesn't matter what your FPS is, screen-tearing can occur. It's also less of an issue for high refresh rate monitors and not having adaptive sync of some kind shouldn't be a deal breaker for most people.

Missed out the $159/$165 on BENQ GC2870H-T 28" Full HD VA-LED Monitor . Waiting for it to be back.

        • Same. Nice for a second monitor.

  • What does the "z" stand for, and how is it different from the regular XL2735?

    • +1

Hey l3wis992; It's exactly the same model, literally with just a different model number. 100% exactly the same monitor/models though.

      Hope this helps!

That is possibly one of the ugliest monitors I have seen

Those shield things are… Umm… unique?

That is about as diplomatic as I can be.

  • damn only if i have a 60hz….but already using 144hz….seriously doubt I would be able to see this difference….

  • Who thought that those shield things were a good idea should …

  • Amazing deal. I managed to order 1 XL2540-Z before the price reset. My friend and I decided to get one each and when I tried to order the second the price had changed back. Now I have to decide whether to keep this thing for myself or make my friends day..
