Yes, they're universal charger. They can charge both LiIon and NiMH batteries, including Eneloop.
OP, what is the improvement of the new i4 over the previous gen?
Nevermind, I just checked out from the specs, the new i4 max output is 1500mA.
Well, 1500mA is for 1 slot charging only. It'll be better if it can do 1500mA or 1000mA for all 4 slots simultaneously.
That 1500mA rating is for li-ion batteries only. NiMh batteries get 500mA maximum on the new I4. The D4 is better, does 750mA for one or two NiMh batteries.
I feel dirty.
