if you've missed out on the past 2 Asus ROG deals, this is a great monitor for $799.20

Positive reviews on Youtube. You'll probably want to change the colour settings because the standard setting is quite bad.

    Must…resist…

  • +3

Wow this is a good deal

  • +2

    Reeeeeeee

    What's the pixel policy?

    Thread to read here:
    http://www.overclock.net/t/1602323/aoc-ag271qg-thread-1440p-…

    • +2

That thread is very long and it started in 2016. Quite a few problems with back light bleed.

I have recently brought this monitor from futu online at the last ebay sale. Also $800.

The manufacture date was July 2017. Backlight bleed is so small on mine. Very small top right and bottom right of screen. Not worth the return. Some of those BLB in 2016 were terrible.

And yes running 2k, ips and gsync is amazing.

When you buy this monitor, follow this comprehensive guide. https://www.blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101/ I've found to setup Gsync is not completely noob friendly.

      • I logged in just to say thank you for the link!

  • Oh Crap I just picked one up Yesterday from MSY for 899.00

  • Is this a good investment if I won't have a gaming PC for a little while? I'll still use this in my home office and will likely plug PS4 in to it.

    • +7

I suggest no. Something better always around the corner.

      • Cool, thanks!

        • +9

And when that better thing around the corner comes, there will be another better thing around the corner, and another one, and another one, so on and so forth to infinity. You're welcome.

        • +1

@AussieDaddy: But in this case it won't be used to its full potential for a while… No harm in waiting?

    • +2

Yeh I suggest waiting. By the time you get a gaming PC to make use of the 165hz, prices will either drop or new monitors may come out. Depends how long.

  • -8

That's a really expensive screen. Can someone explain why G sync makes this screen worth twice as much as other 27 inch screens?

    • +7

Please tell us where you found a 27" 1440p IPS 165Hz monitor for $400? I would gladly buy it…

      • -2

I'm asking why it's so expensive.

        • +2

makes this screen worth twice as much as other 27 inch screens?

        • I think the cheaper $400 monitors have only 60Hz.

        • Nvidias gsync adds at least $100 to the price. Check out the /r/monitors subreddit for more info on price, something about manufacturing the screen .. only done by one company or something. Not too sure. I know for the 144hz ones last year AOC, Acer and ASUS used the same panel, the only difference was the chassis.

    • +2

G-sync prevents screen tearing at all frame rates.

Without adaptive refresh screen tearing occurs which is very ugly to look at unless V-sync is enabled and your computer can maintain 60 FPS or higher. At very high FPS like 144Hz the tearing is there but much less visible (or invisible).

Typically it adds 200 USD to the cost of a monitor using the same panel since hardware is fitted to the monitor.

      • Wow, that $250 extra for gsync. So First person shooter mostly benefit from gsync.
        How about RTS games?

        • it benefits everything, v-sync also causes a tiny bit higher input lag (terrible for RTS) and the occasional noticeable stutter when your card dips below the the v-sync refresh rate

        • @Kanasuke: Thanks, I will turn v-sync off.

  • +1

    Fantastic price

  • How is this one compare with AOC?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182721572199 ($718.06 after 20% off voucher)

    • +1

The same except it uses TN panel not IPS. IPS is more colourful. TN looks more "washed out" and has a much smaller viewing angle meaning that the colour of the picture further from the centre appears less colour-true

Still people play with TN it's just personal preference

  • +2

Here is 2 alternatives at a cheaper price, if you don't mind it is a NZ seller

Acer Predator XB271HUA 27" WQHD Nvidia G-SYNC Gaming Monitor $718.64 delivered
    ASUS MG279Q 27" 2K IPS Monitor 144Hz $719.86 delivered

    • +5

Good posts but they're different specs to this one.

That Acer one is a TN panel, meaning it is less lustrous/vibrant

The second is not a g-sync (Nvidia compatible). It is freesync (AMD compatible)

Still they're good monitors, just explaining the price difference.

      • +1

You're right. I'm lost in their cryptic description. 😅

    • +1

Here is 2 alternatives at a cheaper price, if you don't mind it is a NZ seller

Futuregear is a terrible seller, doesn't communicate, slow untrackable shipping, won't communicate to disputes so they drag out and I would hate to have to try and get warranty from them. Look at their feedback, it's truly terrible.

      • +1

Yep bang on. I am now in the middle of a dispute with them. They have my monitor now and have not provided a refund. Not to mention that warranty is void becasue they are NZ based and are online.

Good luck with getting this resolved, they are truly one of the worst sellers on eBay.

  • Screens are hit and miss with the backlight bleed on these monitors bit of a shame
Other wise i would of pulled the trigger :(

    • +3

it's a problem with all IPS. Asus and Acer too

  • +4

Good price but I decided to spend an extra $80 to get this…

    • +1

      congrats enjoy

    • +1

      but why?

      • +2

Same specs at the listed monitor and all the reviews are stellar plus I personally love the look. More brand preference as well.
        :)

        • Hey fellow bargain hunter's after 7 hours of research and price checks finally pulled the trigger on the acer here's a link for ref scroll down look at the best 27 inch gaming monitors http://www.144hzmonitors.com/best-27-inch-monitor/ and after narrowing it down to these 2 as the agon is inferior unfortunately sorry Blu2 plus after spending this much might as well throw a little more on it and not look back so once down to the acer and asus everywhere I looked it was acer=better build acer=better colour ASUS=too much (BLB) back light bleed then this happened from there own fan boys https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?81982-Pros-and-Con… so there you I'm done now Netflix and chill also to note all are 144hz and will suffer (performance loss) whatever that means when overclocked to 165hz. oh and 1 left so hurry

        • +1

@ABUKEE: Yeah, I've spent the last month looking at gaming monitors and was waiting for a price drop. That said any of these gaming monitors are going to be amazing.
Looks like Futu has sold out but there are still 2 left at the same price with Shopping Express (code works with them as well)
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Acer-Predator-XB1-XB271HU-27-LED-…

I just cringe a little about the price, you could get a 55" TV for what we are paying for a 27" gaming monitor.
          :P

    • +1

I was tossing between the two but chose the aoc

      • +1

165hz + Gsync, you can't go wrong with either monitor. Enjoy your smooth gaming!
        ^_^

        • +1

Thank you! I know yours won't disappoint. Enjoy!

    • +1

They're actually the same panel FYI. Aesthetics are 100% a valid choice to pick this over the AGON for $80 though.

    • +1

great monitor, got one a few months back.. enjoy the gsync goodness!

  • +5

Good price.I would spend $80 more, and get the Viewsonic xg2703-gs from PLE though. Bought mine about a week ago and super happy. Quality Control seems to be a lot better than the other brands.

Either way, Im sad I waited this long to get g-sync, it is glorious!

  • +1

How is this compared to the ROG Swift PG279Q? Not judging on the brand and aesthetics

    • Almost the same. Same specs but different panels. This monitor suffers more quality control issues (dead pixels etc) but all monitors have a chance of issues. Really just pick a look you like and go with it.
The ROG, AOC and Acer Predator are all highly rated monitors.

      XB270HU: M270DAN02.3
      PG279Q: M270Q008 V0
      S2716DG: M270DTN01.5
      XB271HU: M270DAN02.6

      • Not disputing, but I was wondering how do you conclude that this monitor has more QC issues? Where did you get that information from?

        • +1

Well companies and retailers don't exactly publicize their QC issues and RMA rates so it's from anecdotal evidence gathered online. Seems to be correct from my observations.

        • @airal3rt: What Airal3rt said. Thanks for answering for me.
          :)

If you don't go for this deal I can highly recommend keeping an eye on Dell Outlet.

I ended up getting this monitor http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&c… for $560 because it had been packaged up for shipping in a cancelled order (confirmed with Dell prior to purchase who told me "As New" means new but already packed for shipping when referring to monitors).

Really happy with it. No tearing at all unlike my old 120Hz BenQ monitor.

    • How did you find out about this cancelled order deal?

      • +1

Found it listed under monitors on Dell Outlet with a status of "As New". Contacted their chat agent to find out what that meant. They said that for monitors they can be either:

Refurbished (meaning something was tested or repaired (the monitor had been on in some way))
As New (meaning the product had been packaged for transport but wasn't sent, so instead of restocking they would onsell as is)

But they mentioned this is not true for other product categories, best to ask if there is something else you are looking to buy.

    • Nice find!

      • Yeah I am pretty happy with it.

  • +1

Thanks!!! Been stalking this monitor for a while and this is the cheapest i've seen in a while :)

  • +2

I have this monitor and it's great except for the BLB (which is apparently an inherit defect for the technology). Games are buttery smooth with my 1080ti :D Just prepare yourself to be slightly removed from games/cut scenes in dark or black scenes thanks to the BLB (more noticeably on the bottom right) - like my recent play through of Mass Effect Andromeda :/

  • How's the sharpness of image? This is mighty tempting

  • +2

Going from 1080p/60hz monitors to this is amazing, I can't go back to them even for normal desktop use now.

  • Ordered one on Sunday, but have had issues with the courier service (Fastway). Tried for a depot picking up after being advised to go to the Syd. Olympic Park depot by customer service but it wasnt there. The next day, tracker says its been delivered and signed for but nothing on my end. Now going to be a few days to sort it out. Not the fault of the seller but still very frustrating.

    • +1

i have a really bad experience with fastway, tried to go to depot, not there, tried to call their customer service to arrange redelivery, leave me hanging for like 45 minutes, customer service is rude and takes ages to reply email.

my best solution for you is to call their customer support and tell them to send it to your office or leave it in the mail box

      • They've scheduled an 'investigation' which will take 2-3 business days (tomorrow will be the 3rd day). Assuming the monitor was delivered to the wrong address (it shows the signature on the tracking web page), if it shows any signs of being opened or damage I will definitely be asking for a replacement. Not interested in paying $800 for a monitor to have it sit in someone elses hands for 4 days

        • and you will be shitting yourself when you hear that my product is only a display port cable.

a single display port cable, takes 2 weeks to get delivered. not to mention the hassle and such.

          i will take auspost anyday

  • is there one for free sync?
