  • Geez - At this rate they will be free by Chrissy.

Great phone, great price. If you're not after the Note8 for the cameras or Stylus, get this.

  • Cant believe i paid $1350 during the preorder!!!

    • You were expecting a deal jumping on a pre-order?

    • LOL

    • +3

      I paid $1350 postorder!

  • +3

at this price it is taking all willpower not to bite. if it wasn't for that darn fingerprint sensor location…

    • +2

It was annoying at first but I've gotten used to it. I forgot I even hated the position now until you mentioned it.

    • +1

Here's my solution: Get a back cover which has 3 separate cut outs on the back for Heart rate, Camera and Fingerprint scanner. It will never be an issue again!

    • the position is not that bad. Take about 2-3 days to get use to it. I couldn't notice that I unlock the phone when I take the phone out of pocket.

    • +1

Most cases fix this issue. I'm using an alcantara case and it emphasises the separation between the camera and fingerprint sensor enough that it feels much better.

    • Having coming from S7 edge the one thing i miss is the front fingerprint sensor when i am using the phone on the table without lifting it. I have to enter pin everytime. before I used to just press home button and its unlocked. If it had knock code like LG that would have been nice.

      • I've the s7 edge at the moment. brilliant phone. only considering upgrading because of upgradeitis and that brilliant infinity display. and this price for Aussie local stock makes it so very tempting!!

        • I bought S8 plus only because I accidentally dropped my S7 and the glass was shattered. So I just sold my phone with the cracked screen and bought S8 plus from shopmonk. Otherwise I wouldnt have upgraded. S7 is a brilliant phone.

  • OnePlus 5 seems like a better phone performance wise, still for a lot less money.

Also Pixel 2 had just got an official release data: October 3.

For a pure Android experience, instant Oreo, Google favoured, etc.

Unlikely to be a cheap phone though.

      • That's just the unveiling.

      • Yeah, it will be interesting to see what they bring to the able this time - but as you say, one thing they won't be bringing is a compelling price point.

    • +2

Yea less money = much smaller lower res screen (lower brightness too), screen scroll jitters, no waterproof, inferior camera, less accessory support, potential for buggy OP updates (which always come as per history), large bezel design may not appeal to design focused buyers. But yes if you want a cheaper/much smaller screen/inferior quality phone for $350 less it is a good option.

      • I haven't played with it myself, but I haven't seen any reviews as harsh as yours. Personal experience? Links?

        • This is from research. I am currently looking at getting a new phone. When I research products, I usually go very in depth. But most of my comparison I provided is quite simple and only based on features and specifications.

Even OnePlus said they wished they could have had slimmer bezels etc.

But end of the day, you are comparing a plain design phone with no out of the ordinary features (besides dual camera), and comparing against a feature packed flagship. Literally the only reason that exists favouring the OP5 if you for some reason were comparing an OP5 vs an S8+, is that it is cheaper. The S8+ wins in every other way.

I have experience owning a OP3 of which many features were broken over half baked updates. I sold it rather quickly as I wanted a phone I could rely on.

        • @OnlinePred: More RAM + same CPU on essentially the same OS (apparently closer to stock on OP5) would generally result in at least somewhat better performance, which is what I've seen in the reviews I've looked at. Better battery life too.

The S8 does look better, the screen looks nicer, and the camera appears to be better, but on my key criteria the OP5 looks to be ahead and for far less cash.

        • +1

@elyobo: Agreed about performance. Battery life reviews seem to go back and fourth. Web browsing you get far more on S8+ compared to OP5 though.

Yea like I said, if you don't want to spend much, then OP5 is your guy. Although I prefer to have waterproof/better camera/ bigger screen/ better design/ etc.

OP5 has some really great strong points, I would get an U11 over OP5 and chip in a little extra.

  • +1

wow. what has happened to this world….when pre-orders give you a beyond shit deal…oh wait, i got a free Samsung VR….which i haven't touched since launched day……..yay :'(

    • +2

Nothing new about that. Early adopters always pay more, wait six months and you'll get a way better price.

      • +8

Not in Apple's world. Late adopters can get hit with a $50 price hike lol.

        • +2

Trust Apple to do things differently. They even screw their customers in novel ways :D

        • +1

@Crocfreefree: Lolwut… Stating a fact. The iPad pros got stung with a price increase.

Who cares what processor is faster or what. Enjoy what you use and stop turning this to a genitalia size argument. No one started a spec war, you did.

  • Damn it, 5 days left on the code, don't know if i can palm off my S7 edge within that time frame lol

  • Great phone, be happy paying this price, and if another one happened id be all good

  • -1

Showing as $1,099 right now. Has seller bumped up the price?!?

    • use 'phone15' code on that price

      • I was confused as the title stated $949 then the description stated "Price drop on S8+ @ TGG Then use code to bring it down further" which would put it down to $806.65…

        Also $1099 minus 15% is $934.15 (not $949)???

        • Capped at $150 discount.

        • @bxpressiv: Ahh didn't see that condition. thanks

  • Thanks for that, been waiting for something local to pop up for sub 1k.

  • It is $1099 plus the listing doesn't mention PHONE15 offer so might not work.

    • 15% applies to all eBay listing under "Phones", so this WILL work.

    • 100% worked, picked mine up tonight :)

  • bought. pending pick up from my local store.

    • Does the invoice amount say $949 or the actual price?

      • +1

My past experience suggests full price before discount.

        • not sure havnt picked up yet. stupid good guys netwrok is down so cant confirm purchase. but paid $949 on ebay

        • In that case would it be a problem to claim TRS REFUND and bring back the phone as it will be over $900 although I am travelling with my wife. So, we should be allowed $1800 together?

        • @BinnyC:
$1099 it showed on my invoive from good guys

  • I'm using the S7 at the moment, should I buy the S8 plus or just wait for the S9 release next year?

    • I would wait. Good rule of thumb is upgrade every 2 years and no sooner.

      • +10

I went from an S4 to an S8+.

I would argue it is more exciting and fun to wait a long time between upgrades because the experience is markedly better when you upgrade. Upgrading year-on-year gives small bumps in performance but upgrading 3 or 4 years apart actually gives you new features you never had and noticeable performance increases.

I am really looking forward to buying my S12 in four years time! :D

  • Wish it was dual sim and using Exynos, but we can't have it from local au stock

    • -2

It is Exynos. The fact you don't know means it probably won't make difference.

      • Well it's true, whether people like it or not.

  • Does s8 plus feel too big in hands?

    • nope, not at all. went from an s6edge to s8+ and got used to it very quickly. Already I feel like I want more screen! :P haha

      • Same i have s6 edge and looked at s8 only in shop from a distance and looked tall but didn't hold it.

  • So close. I'm just after the S8, not the S8+. :(

    • +1

$849 @ Bing lee if that's not too high for you

      • Click and Collect from Bing Lee at checkout says ready for pick up on 21st September. No one wants to wait a week to collect a phone locally.

        • +1

If its a price you like you will

        • @TRENT86: I must be the exception to the rule then.

  • I'm new to the phone market. Wanted to confirm that Samsung won't repair foreign Samsung phones? Wasn't sure if I should buy a s8 from another country or local stock?

    • How did you survive without a phone for so long?

      • I haven't personally bought myself a phone before. Been using phones when family member's contract expire and they pass it on to me to use.

        • Man how exciting! Yeah you'll be paying a premium to repair foreign stock. This is a pretty good price for local stock so go for it.

        • @MasterNoob: Thanks mate

  • Wow S8 is more expensive at $1,199 with Plus at $1,099!

    • +1

That is may be because of Note 8 release which is another bigger phone.

  • Mobile citi is a bit cheaper. Any difference buying from good guys or mobile citi?

    • If u live in melbourne then u can click and collect, so dont have to wait. Other than that no difference i think.

  • When you click through to the Ebay listing, the price is $1349. This is not $949 after the 15% PHONE15 offer has been applied. Have they put the price up?

  • Looks like they have increased the price

  • The price has gone up $200..

  • It was $1100 before.
