Got F#@#! by Buzz Telco - Can You Suggest Another Good Value NBN Deal?

Hi all, as the title says I like many others on Ozbargin got screwed over by Buzz Telco after signing up for one of their recent "deals". Now looking for an alternative NBN provider. I just need the basics - speed (12/1 or 25/5 ) and 100G of data are fine for me.

I cannot afford anything more than $50 month. Prefer a no-contract option plz. My place has FTTN

Can you guys (and girls) suggest some options ?

Thanks in advance

Edit: for those of you who dont know already, Buzz Telco advertised a few great deals (at least on first impression) on ozbargin and a whole heap of people signed up for their contracts and no contract option.

This was followed by weeks and weeks of waiting for connections to be set up, credit cards being charged multiple times, and zero communication. Those that jump early had their internet set up but then suffered multiple outages. The whole network went down on Tuesday and much of Buzz Telco is down at the moment still with no internet. See below.

I didn't follow this story/deal, how did you get f—-ed by Buzz Telco exactly?

  • How?

They offered what sounded like a great bargin. A whole lot of us joined up and then the whole network crapped out (I am not talking about slow speeds, I mean no internet at all for days for everyone on the network). That's the short story. Now everyone is jumping ship.

      • Not entirely true…… so don't claim "that's the story".

Their network didn't crap itself their upstream provider pulled the plug on them (for whatever reason - not disclosed as yet)

        • AAPT terminated Buzz Telco's service agreement due to non payment of fees despite multiple warnings. See the other post on Buzz Telco outage.

Major providers like AAPT doesnt just dump a customer for no good reason. Its because these guys were well behind payments and now getting dumped by people and chased by creditors.

        • @Bluberry: If it was for non payment I doubt a new provider would take them on :)

        • @Bluberry: so its caused by non payment and not because the whole network crapped out from oversubscribing

    https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/nbn

This might get you by for 6 months atleast $40 a month 12/1 unlimited data no lock in and no activation fee.

No idea what there like im with myrepublic.

    • Thanks! What is myrepublic like?

      • Can only speak from my personal experience.
I was connected in the first group to be connected to my republic and in 13 months since connected now not a single second of outage for me in Sydney and constant 90-95mbps down/30-37mbps up.
Gaming wise (both PS4 and PC) it's been bloody perfect nothing but smooth gaming only lag has been the game itself which i know cause everyone i play with experience it also.

ive also moved houses few months ago which both had FTTP and moving the connection was great aswell only a slight problem cancelling the old account relating to my old address but that was also fixed after two phone calls

I didnt suggest them cause they are not under $50

        • Thanks. That sounds tempting but out of my budget.

Anyone actually used amaysim nbn? What is it like?

  • Dang. I was with ozlinked and something similar happened, however they actually shut down completely. Buzz Tel Co seems to be trying to keep a float

    • I dont think they will be floating much longer. The company apparently only has 9 people and one guy has already quit.

      • I was reading that they've got some people back online? Ozlinked was worse. They said the connection are being fixed, but in actual fact they haven't paid for anything, hence the connection was cut off. Took us 2 weeks to find out and they just imploded.

These guys seems genuine to try and fix things up. Unfortunately for them, it is well within consumer rights to cancel without penalty fees and move on by this stage.

    TPG

  • Does anyone have a one month free trial code with Aussie Broadband?

Thinking about trying them before deciding to move on.

  • under fiddy buck ? exetel.. then

    runs

    • Lol. Is exetel that bad? I dont need superfast speeds and the $40 for 100gb seemed reasonable.

      • I think Exetel are very good value at the lower speeds, i.e. 12 or 25 Mbps and < 200 GB. I found them reliable.

  • Aussie Broadband lowest price if you need phone is 40.00 https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/residential/residential-i…

They are the best provider out there in my opinion!

    I'm on the same boat.
HFC connections have not been restored and they are now saying there's a fault with ALL our cable modems and we need to get an nbn tech appointment to replace it.
They say it can take up to two weeks. I have a feeling it's going to take longer.
Personally, I think it's BS. How the hell do you get to a situation where you have to get a tech out to EVERY customer?
Did they lock the firmware to a specific network???
Either way, Someone messed this up big time.

I'm starting to look into other ISPs. It seems I'm going to have to pay at least $80-100 for the same speed (100/40) and also possibly go on a non-unlimited plan.

I just decided NOT to go with AussieBB because I noticed their tech support hours are not reasonable. Anything other than 24/7 for an ISP is not acceptable.

I was in same boat and joined Aussie broadband today. That story about needing a technician is BS. Signed up and was online within 45 min. The HFC NTD is owned and provided by NBNCo… Has nothing to do with buzz.

      • 45mins ! that's awesome and good to know. Thanks @mademan43567

Yeah. I liked the personal and easy to access communication at the start with Buzz (Aussie was no different) but Aussie it feels much more polished than them. There is a properly working account page (with a login link), got account information/set up instructions straight away and it was correct (unlike buzz repeatedly sending me details without mentioning VLAN tagging!!!). Happy so far!

        • @mademan43567: Yeah, Having chat support was a big plus. I hate waiting for hours on the phone.
Thing usually resolve much faster over chat.
It's ironic that they shut the chat down as soon as shit hit the fan.

that's insane.. so Buzz were trading while insolvent and ASIC had been threatening deregistration months earlier..

    • +1

is that why they're doing multiple CC invoice charges ?

      • +1

I cancelled my account and still waiting for a refund. Good luck getting any money back.

      • Took me almost 3 months to get that additional payment back, and that was after lodging complaint with Ombudsman. I asked them to delete my cc details as soon as they charged me twice to avoid any other incident (thank God).

My phone is still down since they had outage and moved to different provider and unable to provide any eta to fix that even with new number. The new staff on phone (if you get lucky to get hold of anyone than waiting in queue) is no help, they just say sorry i am unable to assist and no one is here.

  • Has anyone one been over charged for months in advance then it's not been returned?

Months have gone by with excuses such as:
We can't return money to a credit card
We can't return to a bank account it must be the card you paid with. Ironic that I had to cancel the card to stop their theft.

This mob is the most fraudulent company I have ever dealt with!

File a complaint with TIO (google it). Seriously, it takes like 10 min and it forces them to respond.

      I agree they are scum.
