  • That is a mighty fine price for a very capable device.

    • Mine has a broken screen quoted $400…for repair hmmmmm

      • +5

Go to samsung store, $280 had mine replaced a few days ago. Just make sure to backup as they wipe mobile clean….High Point, Melbourne

        • Do you feel that they replaced the entire unit? IE, did your battery life suddenly improve because you have a new battery?

      • +2

Same experience as Tsole for me. Got it replaced for $280 at samsung Sydney CBD store

        • +1

Do you feel that they replaced the entire unit? IE, did your battery life suddenly improve because you have a new battery?

        • @jso:
I only got the screen replaced so battery would be same…
If you are asking does it feel like a new phone then no. not sure about lokesh7, but i assume his was also screen replacement

        • @tsole: Ah. I had kind of hoped they would say they are pulling it apart and replacing the broken bit, but in fact it's cheaper and quicker just to do the switch-a-roo.

I don't think the value is as great unless you only just purchased it. New battery + new screen + spare phone for only a few hundred more.

        • +1

Can anyone tell me how long it takes them to fix it if you bring it to the store?

        • Apple replace phone.

        • +1

@Yarkin: took mine in wed 3pm was ready for pick up thur morning 11am…they fix it instore, but i guess it depends on how busy they are.

        • @tsole:
Thanks, that's way faster than I expected actually! I'll check it out soon.

    • That is a mighty fine price for a very capable device.

It's a mighty fine price by a mighty tight arse.

    • Man, had bought one through Shopping Square just two weeks ago with the 20% off ebay deal. Ended up paying $591 for it but can't claim GST back on TRS! Going overseas next week! Thought Shopping Square would give tax invoice with GST because they have an ABN. I know companies don't have to be GST registered as long as they don't earn over $75k but I would have assumed Shopping Square made more than that. Could I still ask them for an invoice with GST?

      • +1

        Just email them and ask.

  • Ordered one :)
    Thanks OP

does Vodafone branding affect the products performance in any way?

    • +7

Again seriously…didn't you get the message last time?

      • -6

The jury is still out. Happy to be proven wrong

      • -7

Are you alleging that Im part of something sinister?

    • +2

The answer to your question above is now definitely yes.

      • -3

        I agree sockpuppeting is bad

        • +1

          Whatever.

        • -5

          @tightarse: it was too easy

    • Over the past 7 years, I've bought two phones from Mobileciti and had no problems dealing with them.

  • Moving back to the phone in hand….
This Vodafone branding, is it hardware or software?

    • +1

I can’t see a reply to your question but my wife bought a Note 5 from Mobileciti that was “Vodafone branded” - the only mention of Vodafone anywhere we could find was the “Sent from my Vodafone Note 5” in the default email app which you can clear but will return if you reset the phone.

  • I think this is the cheapest Australian Stock ever, Correct?

    • -5

      Hi friend
If you dont mind overseas stock there are some great deals over at shopmonk. Great prices, fast delivery and excellent service

      • +2

        And no TRS

    • Yes, for a Australian brand one. If you are worried about being vodafone brand and you could install XSA Australia official Samsung ROM which is all not-branded and I believe should be still covered under the warrenty (don't quote me on that because I am not 100% sure but it is still Samsung offical ROM branded).

  • Good price!
How is Mobileciti for shipping and warrenty?

    • +1

      Shipping? Really quick.

Warranty? Havent had to return anything to them. So dont know. Did go back to them that one time about my mate 7. Just had some questions about it. They were helpful.

Great price, great phone. Picked one up not long ago from Phonebot, albeit used but in perfect condition. Can't fault it. Excellent battery life, fast wireless charging, great screen, and home button where it should be.

  • +2

What would be the cheapest AU stock for an S8? I can't decide whether to go this or spend a little more and get the latest version

  • this or xiaomi redmi note 4?

    • +1

Totally different price tag. I recommend lenovo P2, nearly stock android, very durable battery

      • Thanks, looks like an awesome buy but I can't find any reputable sellers who stock it

    • Obviously this

  • +1

    Wow …
Half price compare to when it was out a year or so ago!

I am using one. Very happy with everything except the battery life. I am a light user, but I would prefer to have all features on (wifi, mobile data, gps location, NFC, bluetooth, bright screen, etc.). Battery life was around 20 hrs initially and now 15 or so for my usage.
But then, the good thing is that fast charge is really handy, especially with the portable power bank

    • Having all of those things turned on is the reason your battery life has dwindled. The biggest killers are the display and GPS. Then again, if your device is a year old, reduced battery health is always a given.

      • +1

25% worse battery life after a year shouldn't be acceptable for a device that costs $1000 new.

Also, having those features turned on is why people use smart phones, it shouldn't be necessary to disable half of a phone features just to get it to last a day.

        • Blame OEMs who are on a quest to make their flagship devices as feature-packed as possible at the cost of battery life. No one likes to disable the 'smart' features of a phone in order to get great battery life. In a situation where battery capacity is less than desired, one is left with no choice but to limit battery usage as much as possible.
Isn't it puzzling how flagship devices these days have between 3000 - 3500mAh whereas budget ones reach and go beyond 4000mAh?

        • +1

Not only pack features in but try and make them as thin as possible.

    • Have you upgraded to Android 7? When I upgraded my battery tanked. Went back to 6 and it's all good again

  • Wonder if this phone supports Telstra VOLTE.

    • +1

I am with Optus. I had to call them to activate it at their end (apart from turn it on on my phone)

    • +1

      Yeah mine does

  • Great price and an Awesome phone!

  • Sick of the exaggerated and hyper inflated RRP price to show a large saving on eBay deals from these retailers:

You save: AU $550.00 (44% off)

As if the Samsung Galaxy S7 is $1,200

All in all however, $600 is a good price (if its NOT grey import)

    • +1

Telstra will still sell you an S7 for $1049

  • -1

Sensational phone for this money. I think you'd struggle to find anything on the market currently that would beat it come best bang for buck.

    Great deal, thanks OP.

    • Oneplus 5

      • If only it had that microSD slot, I'd agree with you mate…

        • +1

Fair point. I was initially worried about that but 64gb turned out to be plenty.

SD storage in itself is slow + the space I allocate to videos (bulk of my storage) balances out since it can run HEVC.

    • +1

What about ZTE Axon 7 which supports Daydream and is only $499 from JB HIFI?

It has superior sound hardware in addition stereo speakers at either end of the device. I was going to buy a Redmi Note 4 but did not trust ordering from overseas. It has the same CPU as the S7 as well, it is no struggle to find a better device than the S7, simply go to JBHIFI and buy it over the counter for $499.

  • nice! cheers TA, grabbed one.

  • I bought one because my grey import which I've had issues with for the whole twelve months I've had it and finally the LCD died. The eBay seller t_dimension even when it was in warranty never acknowledged there was an issue. Repair was going to cost ~$400, so to get an Aust warranty and definite IP68 rating I think paying the extra is worth it.

    • Never buy an imported device with curve screen or any imported LG product.

  • I just got the LG G6 on the other deal for $480
but I see this, I feel the S7 has better camera, especially for low light.
Worth the price difference to $600?

    • I would say yes. Also Samsung software updates has impressed me. Since last year I have received updates Six times. No way LG can do that

    • +1

I've had both (and am currently still using the G6) - get the G6, no question

    • I'm torn between the two as well lol. I'm really happy with my lgg3, which the wife will be inheriting. Was waiting for a non-DWI G6 deal, but this Samsung has me interested.

I haven't had a Sammy since my S4. The LG was like a breath of fresh air after having Sammy phones for several years prior (s3, note1). I feel like Sammy put in too much bloatware and their updates were crappy, and the quality wasn't there. Have things changed much with Samsung?

      • S7 you can disable any of the apps you don't want and it's the first Samsung device that I haven't installed another launcher because stock is clean and customisable enough for me.

        • Gah the code expires tonight, and there are no more G6 deals available. So I guess its this S7 or nothing. One thing I've noticed is this supports VR if I get one of those GearVR thingos, might be a good novelty for the kids.

Anyone have any thoughts on gearVR?

        • @stumo:

new 18% off all ebay 6pm-10pm tonight
          even cheaper
i regret pulling the trigger on this deal

  • +1

That's close to half price compare to what I bought from Mobilcity a year ago….
Still a great phone no need to upgrade to s8 or iPhone x

  • Thanks for the deal tightarse, got me one today. Cheers!

  • i am not able to apply code??

  • Flying out on the 13th of December - which means I will be ineligible for TRE..

Should I wait another 2 weeks or pull the trigger on this??

  • I got mine today and flashed the firmware to stock Australian, very happy.

    • Sorry for my ignorance but What do you mean you flashed the firmware? does it not work straight out of the box? I am curious as I bought two of these and I was just hoping to just insert my sim card from my telco and just plug and play? is it not that simple, do I need to flash my phones as well?

      • +1

I believe its just to get rid of the Vodafone branding in the ROM. It will work just fine as is.

        • +1

Correct, it works just fine. No need to do anything and these days the TELCO firmware aren't far behind the unbranded ones anyway. I'd just find it frustrating seeing Vodafone branding on the phone.

    • hey mate could you provide links to stock firmware
      thanks

  • Ended up buying a "near new" one from loveyourphone on eBay, using code it was $408 shipped, AU stock. 1 year Samsung warranty apparently.

I just couldn't pay $600 for a phone. My last 4 phones have all been around $450 new, grey flagships less than a year old. The LG G6 came closest to that, but I'm not buying from DWI.

Phone prices have been creeping up last few years dammit.

    • +1

Likewise - got the 'near new' one from the same shop.

FYI - you could have used the "POWER20" for a 20% off rather than the "PHONE15" which would have saved you another $20 or so (I ended up paying $391.99 incl. shipping).

      • I hope you have better luck than me then. I got.it today and its gold, black was ordered.

EBay return process started, so I lose my voucher now anyway ffs.

Now they want me to agree to their weird warranty t&c's before they will accept a return. Not gonna happen.

So now I'm stuck with a few weeks of faffing about, and the loss of $100 worth of voucher value, through no fault of my own.

        • Hey Stumo - sorry to hear that.

Perhaps you can use the new ebay code "PARTY18" which is for 18% off everything.

          It's on the front page!

Will let you know how I go with my order and I hope things are sorted out for you asap.

        • @ev3nfl0w:
Thabks yeah will be interesting to see how yours goes, because I note that they don't have any "near new" black ones left.

The good news for you is that it was basically "near new", just the wrong colour lol. They have now provided a return label so it will be heading back tomorrow.

I ended up using that new ebay code on a shopping square one. It is a warranty return as it has half a black dot on the edge of the screen (google shows it is a reasonably common defect).

It came to $286 shipped. Hopefully its perfect aside from that dot, will see next week.
