  • which card?

    • Got the offer in both my platinum Edge and dj

    • Best thing to do is log into the Amex portal and it should be under the Offers and Places tab.

    • Got one on Qantas Discovery Card as well

  • Would Newslink have any giftcards?

    • +1

      Opal

  • got it on all my cards .. (edge and explorer)

  • Can we top up any opal card there ?

  • +1

    manual link :
    https://www.americanexpress.com/au/content/amex-offers-multi…

    maybe..
    does this work for others?

    • thanks - manual linked worked for my CBA amex card

  • +9

I work at Melbourne airport, i will go to newslink now and see if they have any gift cards….

    • Top up myki

      • +7

No gift cards at Newslink. Didn't check Myki, will do so later.

No bargains either, plenty of books on bikies though so perhaps they could be considered 'Value for money' if the $10 credit here leads to $$$$$ later?

        • +2

No Myki either. Mobile phone top ups were the only thing akin to gift cards/ transport top ups.

I noticed that staff had Amex t shirts on so it looks like a new relationship for AMEX with this outfit.

  • Guessing one or two merchants should be doing opal top ups

    • Good idea.

      OP gonna cooperate?

  • +1

Huh. No participating stores in Sydney airport terminal 1 (international).

    • T2 T3
      Domestic?

      • there are in T2 & 3. please see the links above.

        • Yeah, so for my upcoming international flight I'll go duck into the domestic terminals to save $10. It's the Ozbargain way!

  • I looked up a few at Sydney Aiport, and they say "payment methods VISA MASTERCARD EFTPOS" WTF? No Amex??

    • You went instore? Well no amex then no deal!

        • +3

Old information. They only just recently started accepting AMEX and at no surcharge. Although paying with a VI or MC then you will be surcharged!

        • +1

          @gilby08: Interesting..

Don't think I've ever heard of a merchant that surcharges Mastercard/Visa but not AMEX.

I've heard of them surcharging none though! (e.g. Coles, Woolies, Bunnings)

        • +1

@gilby08: Can confirm this. Just topped up my Opal at Relay near Gate 49 and no surcharge for AMEX but there is for Visa and MasterCard (and they were wearing AMEX shirts).

          Opal hack still works too!

    for those in Sydney…

    Relay Sydney Airport Terminal 2
    Trader Sydney Airport Terminal 3
    Voyage Sydney Airport Terminal 3
    Watermark Sydney Airport Terminal 3
    Newslink Sydney Airport Terminal 2
    Newslink Sydney Airport Terminal 3

    • +1

Of which Relay, Trader and Newslink T2 are on the list of Opal retailers here http://www.retailers.opal.com.au/list.html

Note that Relay and Newslink T2 are airside though.

      • Will try and top up my Opal card when I fly to Melbourne next month

        • +1

You flying to Melbourne? Meetup at DJs for some discounts?

        • @nightelves: I am (for the Dior exhibition and Pop-Up Globe amongst other things) but sorry I can't do that hahaha

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

You can always help me with split payments. :D

        • @nightelves: But I'm on leave from work D:

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

Well you're no fun at all :(

        • @nightelves: Sorry; just following policy (plus split payment just requires precision and patience) :)

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

Anyway pack something warm as Melbourne's weather is bloody cold atm.

        • +1

@nightelves: Hahaha I won't forget to do that - last time I went Melbourne for the day in October, it was sunny and 25 degrees in Sydney and wet and 12 degrees in Melbourne …

  • Is there any reason why this works on my card but not my partner's? We've both got the same card.. 🤔🤔

  • +4

Is there anything worth buying at these shops after the credit, I go to the airport often and have rarely ever ventured in to see what they have, knowing almost everything is overpriced

  • +2

    any in Brisbane

  • +1

yes are there any gift cards? Is there anything worth buying at these shops after the credit?

  • +2

Syd. T3. Newslink has salted peanuts etc. And Daryl Lea lollies. Watermark has a dining area with wine and beer and chocolates and cakes. No surcharge

  • So sad!! I'm going international next week with nothing on offer there and then domestic after the offer ends (sydney) :(

    • Maybe you can pop over to domestic terminal first? I'm going international just before the offer ends and was thinking of stopping by domestic to make use of this offer. Not sure if it's close enough to do that? I'll be travelling with my toddler son, we might have to get to the airport heaps early!

      • No they aren't close by, there is no connecting walk-way as such. I don't know about any sort of bus/shuttle that runs between the two either?

  • Successful top up at Sydney T2 Newslink and Relay and received confirmation emails. feels like shop small experience

    • Are they on airside ?

      • Yes, but u dont need a boarding pass to go thru security

        • seriously ? didn't know this. so you can walk through security to get opal top up and exit without any issues ?

        • @spk: Yes. You can always go airside in domestic terminals without actually travelling. You'd have to go through security tho.

        • +3

Does security question your 10 credit cards? If my wallet is full of credit cards I have to be careful not to walk too close to the security beeper at the entrance of stores otherwise they get set off.

        • @JIMB0: haha :)

        • @redwood: thanks for that. Need to search for free parking now.

  • -1

Has anyone used this offer recently without a boarding pass?

    • -1

      YES

    • You can get to all the newslink/watermark stores at Melbourne airport without a boarding pass, just need to go through secuirty. The shop called Voyage is located in the Qantas lounge, so hard to access without a boarding pass/lounge pass.

  • Been to Sydney T2 today and got opal recharges at Newslink & Relay

Person behind the counter at Relay is not happy in doing multiple recharges on the same opal card. Was told only 1 transaction on opal with one Amex card

Retailers listed for this offer at T3 Doesn't have opal

  • -1

As above, T2 Relay only doing 1 recharge of Opal. T2 Newslink only 2.

    • Relay and Newlink both come up as Newlink on my Amex statement
They both have their original names on Opal statement though.
