This is the listing I purchased: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221936302683

An XDA user commented that:

Can confirm VZW prepaid model fully functional on ATT postpaid SIM via $2 eBay unlock code. eBay seller implies unlock will allow data functionality only. I have data and inbound/outbound calling. No need to manually toggle 3G or manually set APN. Device throws a "non-verizon Sim" warning at boot, but it is not persistent.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73576953&pos…

Unlock instructions:
1. Note 15 digit IMEI on box or phone.
2. Order unlock code on Ebay giving IMEI to seller.
3. Take out Verizon PrePay SIM from phone and insert non-VZ SIM.
4. Turn on phone and enter unlock code.
5. Continue with setup.
6. For some reason If u are unable to make/receive calls switch to 3G and back to LTE do it while other SIM is on the phone.

    "Carrier Locked Prepaid Phone"..

Err.. no go unless you can recommend a place to software unlock this.

It would be a cheap Android iPod touch.

    • The thing the unlock the OP has added that worries me still is:

For Verizon Prepaid G4 Play XT1609 / E4 XT1767 users: The phone will only be unlocked fully from Verizon MVNO. Some phones require at least 30 days of activation, while some don't. If you intend to use other GSM networks, only the data will work and voice feature will not work.

The at least 30 days of activation (presumably needs to be Verizon activated first) is worrying. lol..

      • I think that only applies to Verizon (CDMA) and their MVNOs because ESN. Sprint (CDMA) doesn't work because the ESN needs to be added to their registration system.

        Edit: Found the relevant part:

WILL NEVER work with Sprint since Sprint uses a whitelist ESN system. If you buy unlock code it will work with GSM carriers AT&T and T-mobile since GSM carriers do not whitelist ESN for activation.

I ordered the phone yesterday for in store pickup and picked it up last night. I submitted an ebay order for an unlock code (only $2.09) last night and received it early this morning. I popped my FreedomPop ATT LTE sim card in, entered the code, entered the APN and it worked on LTE and HSPA/HSPA+ but would not connect to 2G/Edge because AT&T shut their 2G network down. Amazing phone for the price. Definitely a slick deal. Thanks OP and others.

      Another post says

No, you need to at least sim unlock, use the eBay link in the post above. My phone is working solid on both T-Mobile and their roaming partner for my area. Working on root…

      • Its a great deal for 60 bucks delivered as long as it is unlockable. I'll give it a go as a cheap school phone for my Son..

  • I think Amazon has cancelled international orders for locked phones in the past.

    • It's basically the same thing with the same caveats except it's $2 more dear and has no fingerprint reader.

    • The E4 looks like the updated version of the G4 Play with newer Snapdragon SD425 instead of the SD410 and Android Nougat out of the box.

Lack of LTE B3 makes it not the best 4G phone for Aus, it might do OK on Vodafone though..

    According to PDADB it supports:

    3G 850MHz (B5) – Telstra, Vodafone
    3G 900MHz (B8) – Optus, Vodafone
    3G 2100MHz (B1) – Telstra, Optus, Vodafone

LTE 2100Mhz (B1) – Telstra (a handful of sites), Optus (Tasmania), Vodafone
    LTE 850Mhz (B5) – Vodafone
    LTE 2600Mhz (B7) – Telstra, Optus
LTE 900Mhz (B8) – Telstra (a handful of sites, utilises spectrum previously used by 2G)

    Doesn't support:

    LTE 700Mhz (B28) – Telstra, Optus
LTE 2300Mhz (B40) – Optus (Vivid wireless spectrum)
    LTE 1800Mhz (B3) – Telstra, Optus, Vodafone

I think the best bet for this phone will be to run it fully on Telstra 3G 850Mhz - at least Voice and SMS will work on it as well. Voda may work with Voice over 3G 2100Mhz - but probably not as good in reception around the place. Interesting though..

      • Also supports Voda 900 so it's fine for every carriers 3G network.

It's cheap, but you're going to need to carrier unlock it first before using.

had a US$10 credit so I bought one for US$37.71 delivered. thanks for posting OP.

    • You're going to need to be able to carrier unlock the phone.

      • you mean OP unlock instruction is incorrect ?

        • No. I'm just saying don't forgot to carrier unlock it first before using.

  • GPU: Adreno 308 (in Snapdragon 425) at 27 GFLOPS is a underpowered for this 720p phone (need around 40).

2GB RAM is excellent for this price-point though.

  • I just want to run a couple of apps on it. Medicine-reminder app and maybe some kind of simple one-to-one communications app that runs over wifi. Both for my mum. If it does make and receive phone calls and I can teach her how to use it (unlikely) that would be a bonus. In short, just what I need. Thanks op.

800Mah battery - how long can it last?

    • The Moto E4 is the perfect illustration of the polar opposite of that spectrum. It’s priced low, so it’s all the more impressive to see that its 2,800mAh can carry a charge for longer than a day, depending on usage. Not just that, it’s removable so you can theoretically keep things going for a days on end if you have a second battery handy.

During our testing, we were able to squeeze more than a day out of the E4 on average. At the very least, a tough day filled with listening to music, playing games and browsing Chrome brought it down beneath the 50% mark. Watching a 90-minute HD video drained its battery down by 18%, leaving you with 82% to carry on the day.

But with battery saver activated, it lasted easily through a particularly busy wedding weekend, pumping out tunes, downloading a hi-res episode of Twin Peaks over 4G LTE and survived an hour of gaming, with change left over

    • 720p screen with a low end Snappy quad core makes the battery about as effective as a 3600mah in the 800 series of Snapdragons and 1080p screens.

  • Amazon dont support paypal. I have ING debit card and Westpac Credit Card, can anybody suggest a method to avoid international transaction fees? TA

    • +1

AFAIR 28 Degrees and Bankwest Platinum credit cards are the only known cards that do not charge transaction and currency conversion fees.

Probably not what you wanted to hear.

      • Seems there is an offer at Amazon, $50 gift card gives me $10 credit. Contemplating to buy it or not.

        • that seems to be for a visa card?

        • @Balls: Got a banner, "exclusively for new gift card members"

Citibank doesnt either with their Debit Cards

  • Wow! We came a long way since the lumia 520/530 under $100 phones.

  • Took a punt … now the wait begins.

  • I also made use of the US $10 credit to bring it down to $37.71, as @altomic did. Thanks OP as well as @altomic.
Now to have read through on getting this unlocked.

  • Bought one! Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP, just ordered one. My son will appreciate it (provided I can unlock the damn thing)

  • Thanks Order one, been charged $61

  • is it dual sim?

  • Bought one

  • Has anyone actually been charged by Amazon?
Not charges on my credit card yet. No further emails since I purchased it (other than the confirmation one).

    • You only get charged if/when Amazon ships the stock.

      • Still not charged from amazon… anyone else have successful shipment?

        • No. Will be a pleasant surprise if they ship.

How can I tell Amazon not to ship other small item in the order if the phone is cancelled? (Not worth the postage.)

        • Just logged in and looked and noticed:

          Expected to ship
          Oct 11

          Arriving Oct 18 - Oct 27

Might cancel… this is taking ages :-0

        • @ezza: Just logged in and looked and noticed: Expected by Nov 3 - das phark?!

          so cheap for the specs…..

        • @altomic:

Mine is "Arriving Oct 18 - Oct 27, Not yet shipped"
Maybe it will be in time to be a christmas present.

        • The date/info has disappeared on mine now.
I assume there are prob too many orders to fullfil

        • Still no news on the order… sitting in the same status.
Pulled the pin and cancelled it.

        • @ezza: mine still says due 3rd november….. let's see what happens

    • Mine has not shifted yet.. Suppose to be due tomorrow but has not even been sent yet. This is crap!

      • +1

just logged on to amazon to check status. site required me to approve the continuation of the order otherwise it will be cancelled. for the price I am fine to wait. annoying, but it's fine.

        • +1

Agreed … just wait. If something better comes its along easy to cancel order.

  • Damn… still available this morning but when i sat down to purchase it is now unavailable…
