Comes with an EU plug so will need an adaptor. I picked up one for $5 at Officeworks and it works fine.

This box is really great. Highly recommend it.

Agreed, this is a really good little android TV box.

I'm waiting for it to get upgraded to Android 7.0 so I can use the xbox TV Tuner.

      • PVR capabilities? You can use an Xbox tuner directly on this box? Personally, an Xbox to Android streaming app (remote play) is on my wishlist.

Overall, another happy Mi Box owner here. Using it more then I thought I would and the built in Chromecast is super handy. A few niggles such as feeling I can never to turn the thing off and lack of USB/Ethernet ports but an adaptor has at least help resolve that issue.

        • Can I use this to stream movie wirelessly from nas with plex server. I have readynas and lg tv with plex app and xplay app and it does not work - buffering issues for file greater than 3gb. The same happens when I use chromcast 2 and try to play on tv through plex app on android and iOS devices. The video play fine on plex app in android and iOS devices

        • @VAA:

Can I use this to stream movie wirelessly from nas with plex server.

Yep, via the Plex app and it works fine. The official app installed and running directly on the box that is. No idea how well it will hold up streaming wirelessly from phone/tablet or using 3gb files. Most of mine are generally around 1gb in size, 720p resolution or less and the box connects directly in a router. Not using wireless or 4K files.

The same happens when I use chromcast 2 and try to play on tv through plex app on android and iOS devices.

Thought you could do that with a Plex Pass….which I don't have. I mainly use the built in Chromecast to send local video/images stored on my phone and Youtube/Netflix. Both generally work without issues but still encounter the occasional long buffering/loading times.

Using Plex a lot less these days. Finding it's become less user friendly with updates and restrictive without a Plex Pass.

        • @cheepo: thanks. Any suggestions on other software programs with functionality similar to plex

        • @VAA:

Other then Kodi, I have no hands on experience with any of the others available.

If things get really grim and want to keep things legal without paying for a streaming service, there's always Crackle. Which is also available on Android and accessible on the Xioami Mibox. Just don't expect the quality or range of movies to be anywhere on par with Netflix/Stan etc.

        • @VAA: Kodi is on there by default and much better then plex.

        • The built in chromecast has replaced my Version 1 chromecast as well. Unfortunately Google Home doesn't seem to be able to cast anything to what it terms a Built In Chromecast such as this one.

      • Kodi supports HD Homerun for PVR

    • How is the netflix on it?

  • Is there a cheaper one that doesnt do 4k?

Ive got one recently to replace an RPI, pretty disappointed it can't frame switch so there's some judder issues.probably should've got an S9095 instead.
    Good value otherwise.

    • I'm thinking of replacing my pi and Telstra tv with this one unit, not sure what frame switching is. I can't stand XBMC and don't have a 4K tv. Is this unit worth buying or should I grab one of those mecool type boxes?

I posted on whirlpool recently in the mibox thread. There's a kodi dev there WRX who is pretty helpful.

I don't mind kodi but the android TV on the mibox doesn't allow changing frame rates for different sources ie. 24p for movies, 50-60Hz for TV shows. And as a result, you get judder during panning shots. It's only noticeable when you're looking so maybe best not to look for it lol

WRX has a thread on choosing the S9095 box to suit which does allow frame switching with kodi.
The suggestion from there was to use mibox for Android apps, but S9095 for higher demand kodi.
        I don't have a 4k TV either but it's way faster than an RPI3

    • I'm hoping this gets added in the official 7.0 release. I know its not there in the beta though.

  • If you need a Mi box fast, just Ebay it and move on.

This got my + vote mate!

  • I just need something to watch netflix and occassional youtube on. I have Chromecast 2 and dont really need 4k (only have 1080 tv). Would getting the mibox make my tv experience any easier or stick to chromecast? Is the built in chromecast in the mibox the same as the normal chromecast too?

    • +1

It would make your experience easier if you prefer a remote control over using your mobile. The Bluetooth remote is very responsive and has voice control built into it. The main benefit over a Chromecast would be installing Kodi.

Chromecast built-in is 99% the same as a Chromecast, the only app I have heard of that doesn't like it is Foxtel Now.

      • Thanks for that Marrk. If I install Kodi that allows me to stream shows/movies (obviously not legal)? I read somewhere you can even addon channels such as ABC iView from these repos?

        • +1

Yep, I am using an add-on called Covenant which is pretty good for streaming TV shows and movies. There are apparently catch-up and live stream add-ons, haven't explored these yet.

I've found the voice search to be really poor, works really slowly and only catches the right word 1/10 times. It's nothing like Siri / OK Google on a phone, hopefully they improve it in the future.

        • I find it comparable to Ok Google, could be an issue with your remote or Internet?

      • +1

kodi can be installed onto an adroid phone and casted to chrome cast.
menu is small and a pain in the a though.

        • +1

I did that prior to getting the Mi Box, usable though the user experience isn't as good.

        • +1

@Marrk: Just bought one anyway, hope it works well! Thanks again for your help!

  • Ordered one the other week and paid express, received the next day.

  • Thanks, bought one to replace my old mx box for my hisense 4k tv :)

  • +1

bought it with 5% off.. then the next day.. 18% ..WTF :( feel so sad…

  • i wish i could download apps to it like foxtel now etc

    • There you go, upload this on a USB then connect it to mi box open through ES Manager and install

  • Bring this back? ;3
