MELBSC seemed to work for me too

    • It is for MEL use only. Not valid for SYD

      • +2

        Are you sure?

        • Not tested, but the hints at the bottom of coupon says it valid on 墨尔本(Melbourne, not sure why show in Chinese here), Australia, so I assumed these coupons were for MEL use only

        • @Smallman: Fair assumption but past experience shows that just because the fine print says it, doesn't mean it's necessarily how it works in practice.

Great example being AMEX statement credits whereby it is always stated credit will not be issued if you purchase a gift card.

        • @illumination: Any past experience with oBike?

        • @Smallman: Thanks for the translation.

@sween64: Nope no experience with oBike specifically sorry :P

If you're looking for a bike in Melbourne check the Yarra river there's plenty in there

    • What's the app to search the exact location in Yarra river?

      • Use metal detector for sure, you might get more then bike

        • nah…too hard for a lazy smart Y-generation like myself;
With metal detector you will need to search a bargain first on ozb/ebay/gumtree, negotiate the price, wait for the item to arrive and do the manual search swim in Yarra…

What we need is an app…Wait…there is an app for it already, it's called airtasker :)

Does anyone know the difference between the orange bike symbol and the white helmet symbol?

Maybe it's one thats in use?

      • But if it's in use then it shouldn't appear at all..?

    • I've wondered this too.

  • do you still need to carry your own helmet?

    • i saw them have a helmet attached to the lock

    • +1

I think they're supposed to have their own attached. People forget to lock them up. I've seen them on footpaths and roads

  • Apparently you get credit if you return them somewhere appropriate once you're done with them, or if you report any you see which have been dumped or are broken - that's a nice perk.

  • The bike locations on the app's map is never updated anymore. There's meant to be about 5 bikes within 2 minutes of me, but none are ever there.

Its disappointing because I'd really like to use the service, but it's just not dependable.

    • There's meant to be about 5 bikes within 2 minutes of me, but none are ever there.

Doesn't this just imply they're either in use or out of service?

      • -3

Nah, the map says they're meant to be at a train station and supermarket I go past almost everyday. The bikes haven't been there for over a month but the map hasn't updated. I think they've given up on servicing my area. If I find one now I'll ride it into the Yarra.

    • I know right! I tried to find a bike yesterday and looked around the alleys and along both sides of the streets. No where to be found.

  • Neither code working for me

  • Promo code used up according to the app. Please mark as expired

  • +1

Both codes worked for me just now; also signed up using a random referral code. Will try it out in Sydney/Melbourne and see how I go.

  • Sometimes I wonder with this kind of technology/business model, how are they able to create an active GPS device that ping back to the base all the time (to ensure no one is stealing the bike)?

Would that make it an expensive operational cost?

    • anyone?

    • someone did a teardown, the bikes don't have gps (gps and pining back to base is only done via users phones)

      • +1

Wow, so once someone return the bike, anyone who has sledge hammer or the tool to unlock it, could borrow them for lifetime?

I wonder how they sales pitch it to the investors to back their business model

  • Thanks for sharing mate, redeemed both!

  • +3

Used it today, got charged and it didn't use any of the vouchers I redeemed from this deal :(

Have emailed customer support - will let you guys know the outcome!

    • Same thing here.

Paid the $69 deposit. Which gives $3 ride credit.
Rode the !#@&$ thing all the way up the hill on blues pt Rd / Miller st Nth Sydney. Deducted full price.

Maybe it uses up “free” credits first.

They really need gears on these things for Sydney.

    • me too, have emailed them

  • Hmm so.. can you just park these anywhere or do they need to be parked "properly"?

  • I sent Obike an email about this in September, their reply.
"There are currently no designated parking spots in Australia. We advise all our users to exercise good judgement and be considerate to the people, traffic and businesses in the area when parking our bicycles"

I think that Obike will be offering student deposits in Australia if not already available. Singapore Obike Student deposit is SGD $19.00, which is approximately AUD $18.00. Will provide more details once I am "student certified".

  • Arrgh! Refuses to refund my deposit as balance is negative - 98 cents, as vouchers not applied.
    Minimum payment ten dollars!

Also, one of the rides was 2 minutes as the bike was broken, which I reported.
Next bike worked but damaged too, reported, no answer to any of my contacts.
Bluetooth did not work when I returned the bike, which now does not appear on maps.

Suppose I'll try phoning. Has anyone had success with vouchers or phoning?

I think the real purpose of this scheme is to line the pockets of promoters with investor money.
It will make it harder for real well-planned bike-share schemes to happen in future.

    • +2

      Fixed.

The vouchers from MELBSC code do not work in Sydney.

I phoned them on 0452 512 453 , got a quick answer, and he credited my account. Thanks!
