Quick, before Australians require a visa to visit Catalonia.

    • Catalonia is NOT Spain

      • not yet…

          Not for long?

      • You could pick any country in Europe and split it up based on an an old border and different dialect

    • Wait a year and ozbargain will be posting a deal to fast-track Catalan citizenship! :)

  • Same price as last month, really good value although I think the return flight had to be in February, not 100% sure.

Booked Paris from Melbourne for $1100 with the groupon 15% code/ozbargain listing on top. Code doesn't apply to taxes, and is already quite reduced so it was more of a 4% off.

Forgot to try with cashrewards, but might be worth a try also.

    excellent deal.

p.s. if anyone decides to book via the qatar airlines site then I have a couple of free vouchers for 15% off (not applicable to taxes) to give away. fares are ~$480 so save ~$70 (and voucher can be used for multiple tickets….)

    i've had a few hits re: the voucher - T&C -
    How to Redeem

Lots of destinations on special too (but less troll-worthy): https://www.qatarairways.com/en-au/homepage.html. Can get cheaper on IWTF and other search comparison sites.

Meh, this is much cheaper… Sydney to Madrid. Return for $969. 9-26 November 2017.

Meh….you obviously never flown with Air China before. Chalk and cheese compared to Qatar. Also, 43 and 46 hour flight times!

      • +1

I have at they were decent. I've flown with Air China from SYD-PEK then with LH PEK-FRA. The 43 hour stop over is awesome as you get to see Beijing and the City. It's great to have that stop over, relax and explore. I normally do that either in Narita or Singapore every time I fly to Europe.

        • Ok fair enough,I must admit, for those looking for a stopover, Beijing is infinitely more interesting that Doha.

      • Exactly, not a bargain if you have to double your flight time lol

      • Like comparing a high class escort to a chick on the street

    • You can spend 45 hours getting there, I'll stick with 23 hours with Qatar any day.

Remember Qatar allow "open jaw" bookings at no extra cost. For example fly into Barcelona, depart Madrid (or any other serviced euro port). Saves backtracking. Use multi city option on the Qatar site.

    • A trip to Barcelona could be a good entry point into Europe given how intra-Europe flights are so cheap.

      • +1

Especially with vueling based there :)

    • Not entirely true. Say if you fly into barcelona and then out of london the ticket price will be different. With london departures, the price will be slightly more. If you fly into barcelona and out of milan, the price may be the same. So it depends on which European city you fly into/out of.

      • +4

        Not entirely true.

The point I was making is there are no additional fees for flying out of a different airport in europe. Not all airlines offer this on their lowest fares.

So, Barcelona is $1000 return and let's say London is $1200 return, then your fare will be $500+$600.

        • You mean they don't just whip a mystery 500 bucks extra on for doing so, like all other airlines

  • Another small reminder, for those who enrolled in the Amex Webjet offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/331898 (enrollments closed, but deal still active) you can save another $100*.

*Webjet are marginally cheaper than the Doha website, but charge about $50 in fees. That said, they don't charge any fees for Amex. So you'll likely still be about ~$60-70 in front.

  • Barcelona! Such a beautiful horizon….

    • Barcelona is the most incredible city I've visited in Europe, rich in history and it's beaches and weather beats the pants of most other places. Greece is fantastic for that also, obviously.
As for their independence, I hope they get this. Catalan people deserve it, they work hard and don't get back anywhere near enough from the Spanish government for what they contribute.
After seeing how the Spanish government has beaten and abused them over the last few days, I wouldn't be visiting Madrid now if you paid me. What a dumb arse PM Spain has. More of a dictator.
