  • Suitable as a baby monitor?

    • Yes. As long as it plays nicely with the app you are using.

  • Rep can I use this through a web browser and if so does it require some silly plugin that only works in windows?

  • It comes with an ethernet cable so I'm guessing it's not Wi-Fi to monitor when not at home so bit inconvenient for me I need one that's Wi-Fi

    • It is wifi enabled..

      • Digitally Encrypted Wireless Signal - WiFi Camera

The closest xiaomi alternative would be a 1080p Xiaomi DaFang Camera. It has pan and tilt with mobile app support, automatic night vision with Infrared and also SD card support. But it doesn't have ethernet.

The FHD vs HD is a no brainer. The Dafang is cheaper too when on sale.

      • I see why does it come with a Ethernet cable ?

        • why does it come with a Ethernet cable ?

          Options.

    • According to this it's got WiFi.

Each camera has built-in wi-fi so they be controlled and viewed wirelessly from within your network and remotely from outside your network from anywhere you have an internet connection.

    • It has a big antenna on the back in the photo, presumably for WiFi

  • Thanks rep! Great price considering it is currently being sold for $99 as a "Factory Scoop" product at JBHifi. However, reviews aren't so great.

Heads up this likely means it's using some proprietary encoding such that you can't use a decent Cam app to view video.
It would not at all surprise me to find that you need to pay for a subscription in order to record and watch recorded files.

EDIT: Proprietary encoding is confirmed by the rep further down the page.

As much as it's a reasonable price for the hardware, the software lock makes it a neg from me, better to go for the Xiaomi that is compatible with third party apps and subsequently can record without requiring any further costs.

      • -2

Its funny how people degrade an item when its like soo cheap.

I can honestly tell you now the app is easy to use and you dont have to pay 1 cents for the software. Its a free software.

        • +1

The competition is also cheap, and likely better.

Free software for basic functions.. what about recording?

I have been stung by this proprietary crap in a previous purchase where recording required a paid subscription and I was not happy..
Buyers need to be 100% aware of the limitations before they buy.

        • +2

I have just got off the phone with uniden security and they have advised the app that they have created them selves and always update regurlarly has 100% full recording and viewing function and it does not cost anything to use.

I am making you aware that the software is 100% for free and utilising the app is 100% free. There is no ongoing costs for recording.

        • @GadgetCity:
          Thanks for following up..
          Neg revoked.

        • @scubacoles: We have one of these indoors and other uniden cameras outside. In terms of hardware I have no issues.

I can confirm the app is terrible, buggy and very poorly reviewed on general. Have attempted to hack to work with other camera applications with no luck.

Edit: There is a website you can also log onto, almost as bad as the app.

For this price it is a good deal, bit don't go into it expecting the app to work great.

For us it is fine as we just use it to occasionally check on the dogs / house for the past couple of years.

Would I buy another uniden camera? Nope.

  • The ethernet cable is to setup the unit the first time for initial settup

After this then it works with wifi or via a app.

  • How does this compare to the new Xiaomi camera?

    • The Dafang is better due to FHD and cheaper when on sale.

  • +1

REP is this compatible with the TinyCam PRO app?

  • -1

its only compatible with the uniden app.thank you

    • +1

So I'm guessing this is why you didn't answer me above. As pointed out by @scubacoles it is proprietary garbage.
A good cam should be able to stream 720p/1080p in h264 from a nice webpage without any proprietary plugins in any browser.

  • +2

    Shame its only 720p.

    • it still fine for some things,

Can this still be hacked by someone? It seems scary with the Uniden cameras being hacked locally.

  • Thats why this unit comes with the ethernet cable. It gets its settings via your modem for protection. As long as you have your wifi set with a password then its ok.

with the app design using that is also much safer too.

  • Hey Rep, Could you let me know if it comes with full instructions on how to setup the camera. I bought one from Kogan and I could not get it to work wirelessly.

  • -1

Hi there. It does. It has instructions and also it has 24 7 support with uniden direct.

  • Is the shipping trackable? And is it through AusPost? Thanks OP.

  • hi there
    its 100% aust post tracking.

we will email you the tracking once ordered

  • +1

    Damn it :(

There was a new firmware for it v1.0.9.6 (Uniden AppCam Firmware 1.0.9.6). I followed the instructions to do the update it and now it would not start up at all with the power led light flashed on once and stayed off. Now I have a brand new boat anchor :(

    • It's probably for the best, lol

but where did you find the firmware?

i can only find AppCam Update: 1.0.9.6 firmware for the Use with the below, is that the same camera?
      AppCam 24HD
      AppCam 25HD
      AppCam 26PT

      • I thought so as it's labelled as "App Cam 26" underneath and it resulted in an expensive "brick". I assumed that the PT stands for Pan&Tilt What a piece of sh*t! and really poor design if they weren't clever enough to do a simple file name check before updating it internally (ie different file name for different model :(

PS: I don't know if it would work with routers with NAT enabled in which case it would be really really useless :(

    • Still waiting for their Technical Support to get back to me if it is salvageable without having fork out more dollars :(

  • +1

Having a very hard time setting these up :(

    • Camaras seem very retarded at this stage, I am trying to connect to them via Lan port, i dont see any DHCP request.

      • I've tried dozens of times, still can't connect them!

        • Got it going, you need to use Uniden Crap App

          • I had to connect via the WiFi hot spot the unit creates, the password is "12345678"
          • Once connected to the WiFi point run the crap app the password there is "123456"
          • Then go to advance and setup the unit to connect to your WiFi point, i had problems with it not connecting to my WiFi point because there are spaces in the SSID, my WiFi point is called "Home WiFi" the unit was seeing the SSID as "Home" only, had to input "_" to replace the spaces
          • also up the video quality as defaults to the lowest quality

It must be said one home is broken into every 90 seconds in Australia, because this Uniden camera is a pile of shit!!

  • Does it need to have port forwarding to access it externally with a NATed router?

  • The camera are far from "plug and play" do not buy them..

  • I set mine up fine following the instructions in the booklet. Only seems to work with the Uniden AppCam app, which is pretty crap, but it definitely works. Apparently you should be able to add it to other Uniden apps like AppHome, but I can't seem to get that to work yet.

All working on wifi and tilt and pan works fine swiping the video screen from the app.

    • Got mine work was using the wrong uniden app from the playstore, the app is crap and the you cannot login via web page.

  • The device is label "UNIDEN GUARDIAN APP CAM 26 PAN AND TILT HD INDOOR CAMERA", main reason for wasting 2hrs of my life, I was trying and failing to connect with what i deemed a a more polished app. I did download the Appcam and said this looks fake a hell, uninstall. lol

    Imgur link

    • According to Uniden:

All Uniden Appcam products can connect to the AppHome application once setup on your WIFI network. You will need to setup using the AppCam application first and then add the camera to your list of devices on the AppHome application.

I'm yet to figure out how to do this yet though. Might try again tonight.

  • Couldn't get it working on Guardian Home
So now have it on Guardian appcam App
Now can't see how to pan or tilt. Frustrating.

    • +2

Feedback got pan and tilt. You have to change the security code to get that menu. Not very responsive

  • +1

They probably paid some "poor" Overseas student to write the firmware/software to save cost. I'm glad, I did not pay the asking Price of >$200 listed elsewhere for this cr*p:(

    • +1

It's a rebranded Chinese company's camera, firmware, and app. Uniden don't do any of it themselves.

  • +1

You have to go on line to download the app. as it would have costed them few cents more to include this as part of the package. What a weird marketing sale model? Selling a device which is useless without their dedicated software.
