I got some issue with the activation as well, but then I live chat with them and it was all resolved.

It took over three different chats & Optus shop visit to try and solve our activation and even then they stiffed us on 10gb of the advertised "14Gb of included data" so I'm glad yours was easily resolved.

        • I see. Since I use Optus for overseas calls & long expiry period only, I didn't really pay attention to the data offer nor I use data that much. It probably depends on what you're after.

telstra optus voda aldi etc all try to get new customers and give good deals for the starter pack: 50% off! first 2 months free! etc.
how about be nice to the existing loyal customers: zero, nada, dont care.

    • I bought a $40 sim card for $20, transferred the existing number + plan onto the new sim. Had the same effect as buying a $40 voucher and recharge. Worked for me.

    • You can usually use it as a SIM replacement.

The last 3 SIM cards I bought from Optus were faulty and could not activate. Wasted hours with customer service and visiting the Optus shop .

    • Lots of talk about failure to activate Optus SIMs, but couldn't find details of the actual failure except broad comments that supplied SIM was faulty or expired.

At what stage of activation process did the activation fail. Or didn't the SIM work when inserted in phone?

Have 3 to activate at a later time. Tried inactivated SIM in phone - shows Optus. Just entered SIM number which was accepted, & activation progressed to personal details stage OK. With SIM failure to activate, it has failed at that stage with several telcos in my experience.

Thanks, don't want to waste my time with SIMs that won't activate when I need them.

As noted in those other deals, as soon as you enter the SIM card number to activate you get:
"We are having trouble validating the SIM number, please try again or try using another SIM card. Reference: PPACT-SIMVAL-0008"
You'll chat to online support and they'll advise you to go to a shop and get a free prepaid SIM and call them back to continue the process, etc, etc, etc….

          Thanks - that's what I thought,
          Great, all 3 $30 Optus SIMs I bought in recent $5 deal work. That's a relief😀
          Pity about yours & others.

Scam. Don't buy Optus SIMs. They will send you faulty SIMs which Optus do not want to have anything to do with it.

  • Just to add from a previous deal direct with Optus. They sent out an expired SIM that couldn't be used. You could still be fine with purchasing in store but can't recommend them anymore for online orders.
