Pre-launch team release, this post may not last.

  • Signed up. Waiting for sms

  • All completed, no issues. SMS was extremely quick.
Now in my wallet. Will be very easy as there is a Woolworths right at my work.

      Offer start 30/10/17

It seems you did it too quickly!

      • That's fine, considering I buy something from Woolworths every week.
        It's just ready to go.

    • I just logged into my Woolworths Rewards account at https://www.woolworthsrewards.com.au/.
Where is the option to send a SMS to my specified mobile number in order to initiate the adding of the WW rewards card to my wallet?

  • +2

"Sorry we are unable to process your request right now."

    Woolies has been ozbargained.

Apple now phishing peoples shopping habits, buying it off us for an equivalent of $2.50 worth of points šŸ˜’

I'm guessing it's their strategy before Amazon hits the Aussie market, still can't figure out how they are going to compete with them other than they have some vested interest in internet marketing or they have a new partnership with Woolworths to research shopping habits . Possibly Amazon will be opening whole foods in Australian my guess is as they own the supermarket chain in USA and Canada

    www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/amazon-whole-foods-customers-walmarā€¦

    https://thewest.com.au/business/mergers-and-acquisitions/colā€¦

Possible Coles and google next with 500 flybuy points when you add your card to google or Samsung pay ?

    • +1

What habits do you think they're phishing? Apple Wallet just displays the card as an electronic barcode that the checkout machine will scan, much like it does your physical card… your shopping contents aren't going to be sent to Apple via this process. All Apple could know is that you have an every day rewards card and how often it is scanned.

Edit: actually looks like it's using NFC rather than a barcode.

      • -5

The card scans and stores your purchases from all Woolworths group store fronts

I'm guessing Woolworths are giving them access to all this information as part of the partnership

        • +2

Do you have any detail on that? I know the card does store that - but I can't see anywhere that suggests Woolworths will be passing on those details to Apple. Your total points are displayed, but that could just be a connection to Woolworths services electronically to display the points.

        • +5

          @easternculture:

Yes that's the announcement, but it doesn't mention anything about whether Apple will be getting any shopping details. Yes, it is possible, however it is also possible they are not collecting the shopping details, and simply presenting an electronic version of the card, and the only data Apple could get is the Card Number, and the Points balance.

          Happy to be proven otherwise.

        • -2

@aeon: Coles already track customers in store using the flybuys app/bluetooth/stocard login. This is similar.

Check your app permissions, and always read the T&Cs

          https://www.cio.com/article/2383681/retail/5-ways-to-track-iā€¦

          (4) is relevant for Coles

        • @BadMotivator:

No it is not. If you have the Stocard app installed with the Coles flybuys app added to it. Stocard does not receive the details of your purchase. It just is digital representation of your card - the purchase is tracked only on the coles side of things, they do not send anything to your phone.

Similar to if you took a photo of your library barcode on your phone - the library knows which books you've borrowed out, but your phone does not. It is just the medium for which the card is produced.

        • @aeon:

Next time you're in a new coles, look for the bluetooth sensors :)

        • +2

          @BadMotivator:

          Sure, from your link:

Then it encourages customers to download a Swirl app and agree to transmit their location (from a range of up to 300 feet). The customer receives discounts, while the retailer knows exactly where shoppers go in the store.

This requires the Swirl app, and I'm sure that Swirl will specifically have an agreement with the retailer to share location information and purchases. This is specified in their terms and conditions.

The original poster is suggesting that Apple is doing this as well… it is technically possible yes, but there is no detail to suggest that they are.

In fact on the Apple Pay website, they specifically have the following:
          https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT203027

Apple Pay doesn't collect any transaction information that can be tied back to you. Payment transactions are between you, the merchant (or developer for payments made within apps and on the web), and your bank.

        • @easternculture:

Yup, it looks awesome, though they've only managed to do it in beta so far… here's hoping they actually work out the kinks to make it work well! (needless to say, that still doesn't mean Apple is phishing your details).

        • -1

          @aeon:

They need a technology and software (like NFC antenna etc) and apple can provide it amongst other technologies they offer

My best guess is that corporations are looking for ways to compete with Amazon as it's a big threat not only to online but to B&M stores

        • @aeon: Probably not Stocard, but having it built into the flybuys app by the vendor isn't a stretch

        • +2

@aeon: I agree with Aeon. @easternculture is just speculating and spreading baseless FUD. The odds are against Apple collecting your shopping information because they are marketing hard on their supposed 'privacy' advantage over the likes of Google, Facebook. So if it came out that they were collecting their users' shoppers data secretly or otherwise - it would look pretty hypocritical.

  • Yep worked fine for me. Thanks OP.

    • +1

Did you get the points? The OP says it starts 30th October

  • Oops! Got a bit excited and added too early for the 500 points. Oh well, having it on my phone now means I'll actually use the card and earn the points (card is sitting in a drawer somewhere).

  • +4

I hope they do something similiar with E-Gift cards

    • That would be awesome.

  • +1

"There seems to be an invalid token. Please call our Customer Service Team on 1300 10 1234 for assistance."

Just spent this morning on live chat to Telstra, now to get in the queue for Woolies :(

    • +1

Same for me … too much work for 500 points

  • +1

    EARN $2.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • $2.50 more than you had before

      • Minus $2.50 for wasting time converting points into money- deliberate lack of clarity by corporation- must be in the marketing for mugs textbook.

  • what happens if i have apple pay enable as well, which one does it scan? my debit card or my rewards card?

    • It may use location to check whether you're at a Woolies, then assumes you want to use the rewards card first. It shouldn't let you use either one by accident, as you can only swipe the rewards card before you make your debit card payment.

Update: turns out there is an automatic selection option. The phone understands which card the POS machine is requesting.

    • +1

From internal comms: as soon as the first item is scanned (or the start button on self checkout has been pressed), then you can hold the phone to the PIN Pad for rewards. You won't be able to pay until a payment method has been selected, at which point scanning rewards card will no longer be possible as before.

      • Thanks, that's good to hear. I was wondering how it would work at the checkout since they don't have the customer-side scanner for rewards cards like Coles do for flybuys cards.

      • +1

Can we swipe our phone against the PIN pad of other customersā€™ self serve checkouts as we walk past? And why didnā€™t I think of this ages ago?

  • just keep retrying i got the error initially and then it worked.

    • How many tries?

  • Page no longer mentions a start date - maybe you'll still get the bonus?

  • +2

Where wonā€™t my Rewards card on iPhone work?
Petrol, BIG W, Dan Murphyā€™s, Tasmania. You will be unable to use Rewards card on iPhone at Petrol Stations (e.g. Caltex) for theĀ fuel discount youĀ will be requiredĀ toĀ useĀ yourĀ plasticĀ card.Ā

    • +5

Haha this store, this store, this store.. this state.

    • Or a storecard app like Rewardle will do the trick in place of plastic.

  • +1

Added the rewards card successfully by browsing to that digital wallet link on the iPhone. No need of any SMS. After logging in on the phone, you can see a button saying 'Add card to wallet'. Tap on it and wait upto 30seconds before a window pops up with the card and then you follow further couple of instructions to finish the process.

    • Thanks, this worked for me. Had to try it twice from the phone browser before it worked though.

    • wont work for me when i tried to manually add the card to my wallet :(

  • +1

$2.50. think I'll just keep using stocard.

    • But what's stopping you from setting this up and just going back to Stocard?

      • +1

        Not having an iPhone.

  • Will this work on iPad?

    • +1

Doubtful, as iPads don't have the Wallet app, nor do they have NFC chips.

  • -3

What??!! Only for apple? This is RACISM!!

    • Is Apple a race? Thought it was a fruit.

  • ā€œSorry we are unable to process your request right now. Please try again later.ā€

  • +1

    doesn't work :(

    1Wallet by Marco Tardanico
    https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/1wallet/id1042431640?mt=8

    Iā€™ve had it for months….

    • But you just scan a barcode with this right?

      • This uses NFC so it'll be instant vs trying to get the barcode reader to "see" your screen.

        • Yeah that's what I meant, the app above still requires barcode scanning so it's not the same as this direct add to Apple Pay option from Woolies

  • +1

"Unfortunately we are not able to generate your digital Woolworths Rewards pass at this instance. Please update your details on www.woolworthsrewards.com.au and try again."

    Whaaat

    • Iā€™m getting the same.

Edit - if you continue to wait, it will eventually pop up a window to add to Wallet

Hopefully Coles and others will now jump on board.

      • do you mean wait or refresh and add again?

      • +2

        mine still doesn't work

        • same here :(

        • @super poor: now it worked

        • @Medi:

Where is the damn button… can't see it.

        • @Medi:
yes it finally worked on me last night
even get to tried it on woolies, pretty cool you dont even have to get the wallet out, just tap tap :)

        • @super poor: just fap fap

  • Finally something to put in my wallet

  • +5

Hmm, not able to add cards now? I login and it just prompts me to update my details, then that's it. No mention of being able to add my card anywhere.

  • borked

  • guys download stocard and keep it as a widget on your phone. I've saved flybuys, priceline, everyday rewards and countless other VIP cards. super convenient and my wallet is light!

    • +1

But lamer you have to scan barcode, increase brigtness, scan 2-3 times. This uses NFC, touch and GO just like paypass/paywave

      • yeah its slower, but you can put all your cards on there

        • Why another app, when you can use Android pay or Apple Pay for everything incl reward card barcodes

        • @regenade: okay wow i didnt even know about that. will try it out now

        • @regenade: How do you do said magic? (I thought you could only add rewards cards to the Apple wallet if the company supports Apple wallet :/)

    • Rewardle is good for that too.

  • Hope I can do that.

  • Looks like they updated the website.

If I click on 'Go To Deal', it takes me to the 'Update Details' page. And there is no longer any link to send sms as before…

Also, on landing page it displays:

    Pre-launch team release.
    Your Rewards card.
    Coming soon to iPhone.
Selected team members will receive an email or SMS with instructions on how to add your Rewards card to iPhone.

  • Doesnā€™t work. Page simply links to an ā€œupdate your detailsā€ page.

Woolies royally screwed this one up. POS terminals should NOT be prompting to tap your iPhone when thereā€™s no way for the public to sign up for the loyalty card in Apple wallet. I looked like an idiot tapping it to see if it did anything, then Googling for what the hell the terminal was on about. Bad form.

  • Worked for me just now to add to my iPhone 7. Wonder if I can add it to my watch as that'd be easier.

    • +1

Technically it should work, but I'm guessing it would need to be supported in the Wallet object.

Edit: I just added the pass to my iPhone Wallet - it's automatically showing up in Wallet on Apple Watch. Just scroll across and it's there. When I'm at the shops I'll see what pops up when I wave my arm at the reader like a crazy person :)

  • +2

Had a bit of a play with it over multiple visits on my iPhone SE.

Holding the phone against the EFTPOS device (before payment) will bring up the rewards card on the phone screen with the prompt "Touch ID to Apply".

If you have multiple cards added you can swipe right to select another card before using Touch ID. The rewards card number is hidden by default but you can press "Show Code" to see it.

Alternatively you can double tap the home button on the lock screen, select your card, use Touch ID and hold phone against EFTPOS device.
