Was $5 few weeks ago also at Woolworths.

Might be cheapest now but I don't think OzB gets out of bed to pay more than $5 for 1L Connoisseur.

  • +4

Still good … while waiting for the half-price deal to come around.

  • +4

Two things are automatically upvote from me:
    1) Connoisseur on special
    2) Free Toca Boca apps :D

  • +3

I agree with the others that we usually only post half-price connoisseurs, but this is still fine.

On a somewhat related note, I noticed two new tubs at Aldi - peppermint and creme brulee. I think their nutritional information is wrong as both are listing the sugar content as above 45%, so maybe they doubled it somehow. Both were rather ordinary, with my preference out of the two being creme brulee.

    • How much sugar in the connoisseur?

      • They're about 19-25% sugar depending on the flavour.

    • Go buy the Montana mint, nice strong mint flavor.

  • +3

I am a connoisseur of connoisseurs.

    • +3

Cafe Grande fo Lyfe yo, FO LYFE!

      • Just curious, do you add anything to it?

  • +6

    $4.85 or nothing

    • With the recent price increase, I fear $4.94 is the new $4.85 :(

  • Yea where are the good-old $4.85 specials? Or has the price gone up in general on these?

    • +2

Yes,same notice that the price has risen to $10 so no $4.85 specials any more, probably $5(half price) is the best deal.

    • +2

I'm waiting for the day where it's $4 save $6 (better than half price) at Woolies - I will just take the whole freezer worth home :)
Sadly I might be waiting a while lol

  • +1

Mint is delicious. I find myself switching flavours so as not to get sick of it. Even better inside a waffle bowl

    • +8

yeah nice try at fooling people into buying mint and leaving you the salted caramel.
      you cannot con us sir.

      • +2

        Porque no los dos?

      • +1

Exactly, the mint connoisseur is no good but it's their matcha green tea that's definitely a scam. The mint is bitter as, Bulla beats it by a mile. The matcha is just 50% el cheapo flour chunks covered in a bit of white chocolate, appalling. Just get the one from the local Asian store, same RRP for 1L but it's 100% matcha green tea ice-cream.

  • I used to get these but now I only buy Coles or Woolies homebrand icecream tubs which mimic Connoseurs. They are always under $4 and taste pretty good and have similar flavours.

    • Do you have a preference for Coles or Woolworths? Personally, the only Woolworths tub I like is the intense coffee flavour, while I like all the Coles flavours with the possible exception of double chocolate.

      • My fav is coles cookies & cream

      • -1

I have a preference to avoid Coles and Woolworths

    • +1 for the Cole's home brand.

Great value with salted caramel as this household's preferred flavour.

It's 10% off weekend for Woolies Qantas Credit Card holders so comes to $5.40 so not too bad a deal.

    • How does this work? Noticed that discount on receipt on occasional shop, but not sure what the criteria are

      • Hi dst just noticed you question

the woolies qantas cards gives you 10% off on one shop once a month (they notify you)..

the card costs $169 but I get them down to $89 each year by threatening to cancel the card.

  • I used to be crazy about Green Tea flavour of Connoisseur. (when it came out & hard to find one)
But now I think Belgian Chocolate is soooo delicious.. I only buy that

  • -5

Unbelievable this stuff goes on half price all the time!!! How is this a good deal, shocking….

    • +1

Because on Wednesday it will back to $10…..

      • Going by that logic we should list 50 items from each store (Coles, Woolworths and IGA) that is 40% off. Don't worry that it'll be 50% off at one of the stores next fortnight.

It's unfortunate that there are people that feel this way but I guess not everyone can hold out for the real ozbargain deal, even if it is only every 2 weeks apart.

I eat a ton of ice cream of every variety, in the last 5 years I have never needed to pay any more than half price on any ice cream aside from golden gaytimes. Never went without icecream.

        • Don't worry that it'll be 50% off at one of the stores next fortnight.

Price History graph thanks to Pricehipster

Only have gone half price at woolworths 4 weeks in the last 1 year 5 months (or around 72 weeks). So works out be half price around once every 18 weeks @ Woolworths, which isn't common at all. Also similar case @ Coles and IGA, but even when you combine all 3 stores, it is nowhere close to every fortnight.

I prefer shopping @ Woolworths due to geographic promixity, and $6 works out to be $5.4 after discount WISH eGift Cards, very close to Coles/IGA half prices of $5 anyways, so I might grab one while I wait for it to come 1/2 price again @ WW.

Did you actually gone and check Coles and IGA or are you just making a statement base of assumption.
IGA and Coles have Connoisseur at half price way more often than woolworth(especially IGA). Sure it is not once every two week but it is quite close to that, comparable to at least once a month.

        • +1

@lyl: Mate, look at highdealer's comment and don't just focus on Woolworths. Even then remember that we're voting on 40% off being a good deal or not. Woolies alone have this at 40% off another 6 times ontop of the 4 that you mentioned. This means that between the stores you're looking at 40%-50% off on an average of 1-2 weeks apart.

Remember that specials last one week, this means if they start 3 weeks apart, you only ever go 2 weeks without half price connoisseur, ie. really 2 weeks apart.

We already see a ton of 50% off specials, is it really worth encouraging clutter to have twice as many posts when it's only subpar at 40% off?

          @highdealer:

Half prices are similar for WW/Coles/IGA, a few of of the dates you linked are only for selected store/states. Often for statewide deals, I go to my local store and it scans at a different price (especially with IGA), so I now usually only bother with Coles/WW as their catalogues are standardised throughout all nationwide stores.

Here is an updated list for the entirety of 2017, for nation-wide deals only (I quickly skimmed through the search, correct me if I missed anything):

          13/09/17 - IGA

          6/09/17 - WW

          09/08/17 - Coles

          19/07/17 - Supabarn (ACT/NSW only)

          12/07/17 - Drakes (Qld/SA only)

          2/06/17 - IGA

13/05/17 - Foodworks for 3 states only and not all stores (most comments reporting that it is not half price at their store)

          22/03/17 - WW

          08/02/17 - Coles

          25/01/17 - IGA

Works out to be 7 nationwide half prices so far. 7 weeks out of the 41 weeks so far this year, works out to be one week every 6 weeks, so it's closer to one half price deal every 1.5 months.

        • +1

          @supersabroso:

Highdealer's comment included a few statewide/limited-stores deals, nationwide I have only spotted 7 half-price deals this year (see reply above). On average nationwide half price deals this year started 6 weeks apart, so you'll have 5 weeks between half price connoissur.

Anyways I appreciate this deal as I usually prefer going to Woolworths unless Coles/IGA has multiple really good deals that week, and eGift cards can also take the price down a bit, so I might grab one this week, therefore an upvote. 40% off deals for other items get posted alot, but if they don't get the votes needed it won't reach the frontpage. So far 82 people are happy with this deal, and I assume most of them have been a member of this site more than few months and are aware that connoisseur does go half price sometimes, but still upvoted regardless as they think it's beneficial to them.

        • -1

@lyl: Here you go: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335710. It is like a monthly occurrence at IGA. Since August the longest Connoisseu has not been at half price is 3 weeks. What you see on ozbargain is only what was picked up and posted. It was half price quite often from january to august too but some of the deal was not posted.

There are a lot of sheep on this site that will just upvote every thing, or people just everything of a particular brand regardless of the price, they don't even buy thing in the deal they upvoted.

        • +2

          @highdealer:

Nationwide half price connoisseur definitely isn't a monthly occurence at IGA. There is an IGA in my University, so I check the catalogue every week to see if there are any half price drinks/junk food (except around 6 weeks this year during Uni holidays), and everytime I've seen connoissur half price, I've gone on ozbargain to see if someone has posted it, and it has always already been posted. This 'Nocure' guy has posted all of the 3 (now 4) nationwide half prices so far, and always make IGA posts for other products as well 2-3 days before each sale, so I'm sure no half prices were missed. Same with Coles/WW, a few big posters here seem to view the catalogs every week and post them days in advance, so I'm sure there's no way they would be missed.

Maybe since August it has been half price every 3 weeks, but looking at my list above there have been periods of up to 9 weeks where there hasn't been any connoisseur half price, so you can't always depend on connoisseur going half price every 3 weeks.

Maybe there are sheep voters, but it's not like every connoisseur deal makes the front page, e.g. alot of the statewide/limited store half price deals didn't make the front page. I thought it was a good deal given my circumstances of having no connoiseur left hence the upvote, but if in the future they really are 50% every fortnight, then I'll no longer upvote deals like this.

  • I won't buy this ice cream unless it's half price.

    • Thanks for letting us know.

      • +1

I bought some at this price but took them back for a refund after what he said.

  • +1

    good deal especially first time.
personally connisur iceream many years ago never used to be less the $7 and it CONTAINED EGG which made it creamier.
it was more like iceExtraCREAMy then the style of "$4/2L" pranded letalone "$2/2L" house brand cheap
sadly it no longer is there and we have had numerous $4.85 specials
as it is now just as watery as most others ill stick to the $ stuff

    • I tried a few different tubs recently and wasn't impressed. It's a lot more 'airy' than the Ben & Jerry's or Haagen-Dazs I spend way too much on.

I'll be sticking to the sticks when it comes to Connoisseur.

  • +1

Since when did the RRP go up to $10?

    • Haagen Daas is worse - RRP is about $12 and it's not even 500ml!

  • -1

ALDI sell the same exact icecream and it's half the Coles price every day of the week

    • Are you sure, I don't recall seeing this in Aldi?

      • +1

Suspect MikeKulis is referring to the Aldi version which is quite similar. I think the brand is Indulge.

        • I know someone who supplies both supermarkets and he has said it is the same product in different packaging. It's always $4 something so I get a laugh when Oz bargainers go crazy over it being $6 at Coles or woolies.

  • For those who don't mind the other brands, I think Coles has Sara Lee ice cream tubs at 50% off this week. Cannot remember the price but I think it was in the $4.85 range.

  • Does this ice cream give anyone else a severe case of the shitz. If I have a somewhat good quantity of this ice cream, say a quarter of the tub in a sitting I have to spend the next couple of hours with horrible tummy pain from hell.

    • +1

I think you might be lactose intolerant. Another experiment is to get a McDonald's think shake and drink it in one sitting and wait for the results.

    • I'm lactose intolerant and have no problems with this oce cream or any other.

  • I'm visiting the mother in law and I stopped by Doonside Supa IGA and I saw them on sale for about $4.80 if I recall correctly.
