Would be nice if we could get a reasonably priced 2k+ G-sync IPS 28"+ monitor. Paying upwards and over $1k for a monitor just sucks when you consider the competitive prices of TV panels over the last couple of years.

  • Good for gaming? Refresh rate?
How does this charge the MacBook Pro? The description doesn't have USB C as input

    • It does have a Type c. Even the LG website doesn't mention it, but it does have the connector. Look at the pictures and videos online. It charges and projects via the Type-C.

What makes it so good? Stupidly expensive IMO. I think around $400-$500 is where this size and res should be at.

    • +2

There's nothing in the market anywhere near that price.

What about this deal from last year: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/281725

I don't know what it is about monitors. Is the production price much higher than TV's? I know some are better for photo editing with good colour accuracy, but you have to miss out on features like HDR etc, so they aren't really any good for multi use anymore (e.g.hooking up a console to play games and 4k BluRay with HDR).

A one off boxing day sale is not a fair comparison.

The cost of producing a IPS panel is much higher than the standard TN panels which are the base models for most 4K screens. You can find some 4K tn panels around the 500 mark ( not on eBay ) but to get the high accuracy ips you are looking at about 700 for them as a starting price. Tvs use a very different process to computer monitors while some have a “gaming mode” which will make them a average monitor but with high latency.

As for HDR yes there are monitors that do this my IPS screens I have on my editing rig is 10 bit HDR and is a predecessor to this model.

      Maybe because it's a 4k IPS panel?

IPS, 4K, Freesync, Type C, LG.

  • really appears to be quite bad value, when you consider the broader market. Clearly there is a niche market for this kind of product.

    • +4

This is like complaining BMW is bad value compared to a Toyota.

      • Objectively, it is. Subjectively, different matter.

60 FPS limit, not the ideal monitor.

    • For 4k? Unless you really want to be splurging, I'd take the 60fps with FreeSync on this monitor.

Thanks Op! This is exactly what I have been looking for.

    • You're welcome :)

This is excellent value if you’re after a 4K Monitor.

I just purchased the 27ud69 yesterday and I’m annoyed I missed out on this!

    HDCP 2.2,
    4K @ 60hz both over DP and HDMI 2.0,
    Free sync,
Excellent colour and highly accurate straight out of the box.

The only way you could call it bad value would be to compare it to a tv, which it most certainly is not.

Edit: the one complaint is the crappy stand, but if you’re going to use VESA then it doesn’t matter anyway.

  • Just a quick question. The audio out is it just headphone (stereo) or is it digital audio with 5.1/7.1?

  • Would this IPS panel LG be a BIG improvement on this? https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/acer-28-4k…

  • How does a Dell U2718Q compare to this?

    • Don't know about PQ, but it has better height and swivel adjustment. And Dell warranty will be better than LG.

Have one of these, paid $815 for it over a year ago, awesome product.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2014. I guess this monitor would not work well with it? Or will it be ok?

Would love to run two of these off my MacBook, would I need to purchase a newer MacBook to do this though?

  • If in the market for higher end gear like this theres a decent saving to be had as umart doesnt appear to jack the prices before ebay discounts, but their $450 monitors postage eats into the discount big time. $90 off becomes $40. Better than a kick in the balls maybe, but hardly incentive.

    If only they c&c'ed.

I have this monitor, the USB ports are only 2.0 speeds if you're using the USB-C interface for video input as well. But in saying that it's pretty convenient having one single cable to power the Macbook, connect the display, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.

I have the 15" 2016 MBP" if that helps, it chargers slower than the dedicated power-brick but charges nevertheless.

    • Do you run 1:1 at the resolution of the panel or one of the "retina" scaled resolutions? Would I be right in guessing 27" is a bit too big to run in one of the retina modes?

For anyone wondering, the USB 2.0 speed is a USB limitation you'll see on any USB-C monitor with that many pixels. If you want single-cable 4K and charging, you'll need a Thunderbolt 3 monitor or dock. Also, this monitor can supply ~55W, a MacBook takes ~30W, a 13-inch MacBook Pro ~60W and a 15-inch MacBook Pro ~85W.

      • Heya! Just 1:1.
