  • Good to store those xiaofang videos

    • doe that really work?
any what is the range on the box - metres etc?

      • Haven't tried it but there's an option from the App, this guy from Whirlpool uses the Mi Router 3 with external hdd attached and it works, so I don't see any reason why this router is not supported.

    • I bought mine for this reason too but cant see if it will actually work

      • Well let us know. Keen to try this. :)

  • Thanks OP, just bought one to play around.

    Free DHL shipping from SG.

    it's 300mbit on 2.4ghz and 800mbit on 5 ghz with 2x2 tx.
So seems an older model, but it does come with 1TB drive.
Doesn't mention if it comes with DNLA so you can connect your android TV box to it.

in regards to range, depends on how thick the wall, type of material, etc, wondering what the gain levels are like compared to AU models (e.g higher gain) and it's due to the amps, can't be antennas as it says selectible,

seems good value considering it has built in drive.

  • puts on tinfoil hat Free complimentary cloud data backup from chinese govt

    • +8

not sure why people freak out about chinese govt, we accept over 150,000 chinese students into our universities and happily take money from their confucius institutes and make sure not to offend so we don't loose enrolments, and you can buy an Australian senator to support the China Sea position for $1500 (Sam Dastyari). We are easily bought and cheap, and our politician will lick anybody's boots if there is a $ in it, and developers can save a $ e.g unsafe cladding and asbestos in cement sheets but who will check for compliance if it upsets trade.

Tinfoil hat, I'm hoping these routers support higher signal levels than the Australian standards compliant routers we get.

Who knows what the Xiaomi robot vac or wireless mop are really monitoring, lucky I have "ok google" and facebook to protect my personal information.

I'm more concerned about 5-eyes. One would hope that the Australian government might protect it's citizens from other countries. From our own spies there is little defense.

The second issue is that open source firmware tends to be updated much more quickly in response to security incidents.

we accept over 150,000 chinese students

Not to forget that all those students, once finished, buy a house with money from overseas. It's all good for the economy.

At my school, the P&C is pondering if the newsletter should also be sent out in Chinese.

At least when China takes over the world, I know my data is still safe :)

  • +1

Tempting but it doesn't appear to be supported by open source firmware.

    Review from PC authority here
    https://www.pcauthority.com.au/review/review-xiaomi-mi-wi-fi…

Tempted to get one given the low price and impending NBN connection at home.

    • It's a cheap wireless NAS …… be nice if it also ran a torrent client for downloads.

      • I think it does? I think my other Xiaomi router has some kind of download client.

  • This looks better than the Netgear D7000 that I currently have. Tempted to get this especially for the built in 1TB hard drive.

  • What does "Super-wall model, independent external signal amplifier" mean?

    • +1

My Asus ac68 has something similar think it's the beam forming wifi but I might be wrong

  • Looks pretty good but only having two LAN ports is a real bummer

  • Lack of USB 3.0 doesn’t really matter since the storage is already built in, but does make you wonder what type of bus they are using internally . Hopefully not USB 2.0 :)

  • Shit…. Need to replace the hockey puck sized bastard the provider gave me. Wonder if this will be the one…

I'm curious is OzBargainers really big fan of XiaoMi? I can understand the phones, bands and powerbanks are pretty reliable, what I don't get is why there're massive amount of upvotes on every single XiaoMi item, even for Smart shoe, Smart Pen(?), Robotic Vacuum and now Router?

    • +2

      Haha I'm one of them.

I've got like 8 powerbanks, 4 pens, USB adapters, security cameras, smart home kit which includes human sensors, door sensors, 2 smart lights, etc

They make good quality stuff at reasonable prices…

      • Yeah, I know XiaoMi build good stuff. However, is the price point really good that attract that many votes? For example Bose QC35 is famous here in Ozbargain too, but not every post deserve that many votes. As for Xiaomi, every posts gain massive number of votes on average -https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/xiaomi.

Xiaomi products are often about as good as it gets. They're not just good, they're great. Their high-end Piston earphones give audiophile-priced ones a run for their money, their robotic vacuum cleaner beats some of the best out there at 3 times the price, their powerbanks are good and safe at a fraction of the cost, their phones are well-built and fast at half the cost, etc. etc.

All Xiaomi products I have bought have been great.

  • +1

DOH! appears to now be sold out.. Serves me right for reading all your lousy comments :)

  • Any OZBargainers familiar with the Xiaomi's higher end - HD 2600Mbps Dual Band 1TB WiFi Router?

A hefty discount notwithstanding, it's still priced $335 at Zapals. Why?

When the Xiaomi R1D AC in this post- priced at at just $89.99- is fairly feature rich, what makes the other HD router worth that high a pricetag?

    Thanks.

  • Has anyones order shipped yet ?
