Microsoft Surface Book - 256GB / Intel Core i7 $1709.05 Delivered @ Microsoft eBay

180
P5OZZIE

Looks like Microsoft is selling these at a discount with the reveal of the Surface Book 2 a couple days ago. As this doesn't have the Performance Base, it appears to be the 2015 edition. Cheapest previous price was $1979.10 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/327723

    8GB RAM

  • Does this have the dedicated GPU?

    • +1

yes, the custom one. equivalent to 940m I think

      • thanks, this is quite an epic deal.. got one thanks!

        • +1

Hey, Did you end up getting one? Can you confirm by any chance if there is a Nvidia dGPU in this model?

        • Hey mate yes this model has the dGPU, I'll tell you which Nvidia model when I get home

    • I don't believe so, off the top of my head if you go to the higher up models you'd get dedicated graphics, but if you're trying to game on them or something it's not really worthwhile as they've only got a 965 in them

nvm just realised this was the i7

      they've got a nvidia 965M in them

      • Yeah it's enough for very light gaming, and it's pretty crazy that an i7 version with dGPU is $1700. Their ebay page even lists the i5 versions (which seems to be without the performance base?) as more expensive: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Microsoft-Surface-Book-128GB-Int…

        • +1

Yeah I saw the price and assumed it was the i5 model.

Look it's not an ideal computer if you want to be gaming, and ofc it'd be able to handle very light stuff but you'll find that it'll overheat and such.

It's a great device otherwise, two of my friends have the surface book and I find the fact that it's got a proper keyboard plus the ability to detach very appealing. If those things don't mean much then you're paying too much for it and can get something better for less. Otherwise great price for this device

      • the surface book the OP posted is not the one with the "performance base" with a 965m. it is the original surface book with a custom chip, equivalent to a 940m. I have it, very happy with it, but it is not the refreshed version from last year.

        • Ah okay thanks might be why the price surprised me so much

        • Can a 940M run Dota 2 on max settings?

        • +1

@HarveySpecter: I'd say not at max settings, but that depends on what you classify as max, if at 60 fps you'd probably want to go for a 960 (maybe even a 950?) or better. Otherwise a 755M runs it at ~40fps and a 1050ti with 7th gen i5 will get you about 80fps at max vid settings. I reckon you'll probably run into some overheating issues though if it is able to handle it on max settings

Surface Book 2 has already been announced. To be released in November

Best to hold off for better discounts

  • bought one for just over 1800 a few months back in a similar deal. Microsoft is often in the 20% discount group so hold out for that

  • Is surface book considered as a tablet? Been waiting for a good surface 4 pro deal but havent seen one for a while, I have one salary packaging claim left for this year, I have already claimed a laptop so cant claim it again but I can claim a tablet… the listing doesnt specify whether its a tablet or a laptop.

    • +1

Depends on the classification, but in essence I'd say no, I'd say this is classified as a full computer in a tablet form factor if that makes sense, so it's got the portability of a tablet and the functionality of a computer as this is running on full a windows 10 OS as opposed to android which is typically found in tablets.

Just a computer that goes into "tablet mode" in essence

    • +1

I'd classify the surface pro range as computers.

    • +1

I got one of the new surface pros i7/8GB/256GB with the tech 20% off sale, $1840
They went out of stock pretty quickly. Maybe wait for another one of these sales

Decent deal considering the new surface book 2 prices are exorbitant even by apples standard

  • can you use photoshop, premier or other 3d programs into this surface book

  • Anyone know which gen i7 it is? I can't find any info on the listing. Also, which dGpu is it?

    • Its 7th gen - 7500u i believe

  • now with PERKS10 (10% off) - $1,619.10 - is it worth it compared to apple macbook pro 13" 256gb?

    • That's entirely up to your tastes. Also depends on what you wish to do with it. I personally prefer the Windows ecosystem over the mac one. The Mac 13" 256gb is also i5 and no dedicated GPU for that similar price point?

  • How would it handle games like starcraft 2. Diablo 3. Latest Civilisation. Games like that?

  • OP I think this deal should be expired, as Microsoft changed the eBay price back to $2804.

    • And now back to $1799. Use 15% eBay discount and welp! To buy or not to buy…
