      No. This is close to the limits for a first piece, but I've not seen the limit enforced much.

      The budget airlines are more likely to hit you for the weight. This is a lot lighter than a wheeled carry-on case, so lets you carry more.

        True. Would love to be able to have this bag as well as a wheeled carry-on bag, putting laptop and heavy wires and chargers etc in here and lighter bulky clothes in wheeled bag.

        Think you could get away with that in most cases, just be prepared to have to insert into wheeled bag or smaller bag if forced. Bit of a gamble that might add unwanted travel stress/$.
