  • I'd say look for a deal such as this:

The E570p would be more powerful than the E570 - but it is above your budget.

Seems a deal like that come around a couple of times every month or 2.

    • Thanks, the specifications look good but I was told the color display is very bad? Not sure, for doing editing, color accuracy is crucial to me also.thanks

  • Are those laptops with good display or color accuracy, as you know it so very important for photo editing? Thanks

  • The acer switch 3, with the gen 8 quad core i5-8250u is actually really good. The gen 8 i5 can be overclocked using intel's own software to the level where the single core performance is comparable to the i7-7700hq. THe mx150 also benches at ~90% of the GTX960m, it has pretty decent grunt for the price. Main drawback is probably screen (Coverage: 65% sRGB, 47% NTSC, 49% AdobeRGB) and the soldered ram (i.e. can't be upgraded by user). The Xiaomi notebook pro has similar specs and is a tad more expensive, but comes with a 72% NTSC gamut screen. The problem is that you will get chinese windows with the machine and will likely have poor to none existent aftersale support.

Alternatively, the Gigabyte p34g v7 is a bit pricier (available on ebay for ~$1425 after the 20% off) but should be suitable for purpose. However I can't find any reviews or specs on the colour accuracy.

The ASUS ROG GL552, whilst it is old and heavy, might also suit your needs. You can pick up a refurb one from Ebay for less than $1300 or a new one for ~$1400. The colour reproduction on this is supposedly quite good at 93% sRGB and 69% NTSC though not the best .

If you aren't urgently in need of one, keep an eye out on the dell outlet for any xps 15s that get listed, or wait for the gen 8s laptops to enter the market and stores to start clearing out the gen 7s to get a better price.

At this price point you are going to have to make tradeoffs. The very best screens are going to be reserved for higher end machines, or chinese machines like the Xiaomi. A quad core processor is a must, and you can probably skimp out on dedicated graphics (though they are good to have).

    • thank you so much for the detailed information, i just found that xiaomi released the new notebook pro, and it looks good, but not sure if works well, also can it format the system and install new fresh Windows system?

      • I can't imagine any reason why you won't be able to do a clean install but best to check the interweb. Presumably problem free if you have an English windows key - my brief search only show people trying to get an English install with the bundled key with the Xiaomi (i.e. the Chinese licence).

My go to for chinese tech review is techtablets but for xiaomi products you can surely find plenty of review sites. Overall response I think is positive. However most western firms haven't made their gen 8 products available yet so it is hard to say how much cheaper/better it is vs the competition .

        • thanks so much again, i need to do some research also, the laptop already sale in China, but still not available in au, i better just wait, it looks like would be fantastic laptop i believe, but also keep an eye on other deals if comes first. THanks

        • People claim the Mac has low specifications in the mode I mentioned before more efficient, fast than windows pc which has high specifications?

    • It sounds you know lot regarding the laptop, so wander if you can tell me that the Mac pro no touch bar 2017 , i5, 8gb ram, 256ssd versuin, can it handle roughly 250mb graphics ,very cautious… Thabks

      • I am not quite sure what you mean by 250mb graphics. Do you mean file size? Or the bitrate for a video? You are probably best to ask someone who owns a similar machine for actual performance. I am also not too familiar with macs, but if it is a dual core i5 then I would be weary. As a rule of thumb you want more RAM, faster read/write to SSD, faster CPU, and more cores (especially for video). You might want a good discrete GPU but the most important aspect of your hardware also depends heavily on your software of choice as well as workflow. e.g. have a look at the photoshop processes that use GPU to decide how important it is to you.

        • yeah, 250MB file size. last time i created a file in illustrator and surprisingly it is a 180MB size file, and due to large file, i can't use the program at all- everytime i open the file and it just freezing all the time, still hadn't finish that art work yet and by the timefinish i expect would reach less than 250MB size .. Thanks for advice indeed will keep continue searching
