    Have one, can't fault!

      can't fault

You use it to play tennis?

      • +14

        that deserves a backhand…

        • +6

I'd give him a serve, but that would not be to my advantage… That comment deserves no love.

        • +1

@picklewizard: It could be to your advantage if you let the serve

      • +1

Ditto. These are good. I have two.

Be aware the 350 only has one activity, and AFAIK, does not support sequences / macros.

IMO you're better off spending the extra $30 for a 650, or spend $100 and get the Smart Control with the Hub, which now integrates with Google Home.

    • +5

the 350 only has one activity

Yes, that's in the description. So if you need it for watching TV and turning on your PVR & Amp etc it's fine.
The 5 favourite buttons are awesome, I have set them up for the 2 digit channels like 9HD, 7HD, SBS HD etc. so I don't have to hit 2 buttons, something the 650 doesn't have.

It's a solid remote and at this price there is really no competition.

I have one favourite button set to take me directly to Netflix :-)

      • WatchNerd - The 650 does have a favourite channel function - you can select that on the LCD screen.

Granted you have to hit the “Favourite Channels” button first, but it is useful for say Foxtel if you can’t remember the channel numbers.

On the main topic I have both the 350 and the 650. The 350 is good if you just use one activity - eg watch Foxtel. It will turn on the TV and the Foxtel set (or Apple TV… or )

The 650 can do a lot more as has been said by others.

I use mine to control my TV, Apple TV and Sonos playbar. That's enough for me and at 28 bucks it's a no brainer!

      • +1

The Apple TV volume remote already just changes the TV volume. I'm not associated I just accidentally pressed it.

        • Yes, but I'm not sure what you're getting at? The Apple TV doesn't control the rest of the TV functions like a universal remote does.

    • What do you use macro for?

      • +4

What do you use macro for?

Some examples from my current "Watch Fetch TV" activity:

        • Assign a macro to the skip back button to emulate instant replay (sends RWD, RWD, then Play commands)
        • Assign a macro to a single button to launch Netflix (sends Menu, Direction Right, and OK commands)
        • Assign a macro to a single button to change TV and receiver inputs to use the Chromecast (and then another macro to switch back to the Fetch inputs)

        etc etc…

In my experience, the 350 may work ok for the most basic of setups, but the benefits of the 650 over the 350 (eg: backlit keys, multiple activities, Help button, customisable screen, sequences etc) easily justifies the extra $$$'s.

  • I have the 650 and it is amazing, even controls my air conditioner. Can't get it to work with my no name target tv though, have spent hours trying.

    • +8

Try contacting them. When I had a rare tv, they searched other users for same tv. They added their codes to my database. Downloaded codes & worked.

      • Wow, that is amazing, thanks.

        • Does 650 have learning mode to learn codes from your tv? That's the other way.

The tv I had was heavily discounted as had no remote & needed it for almost all tasks & setup. Finally found a store with last of model & asked to copy the 1 code I couldn't download. They agreed😀

        • @Infidel: I did try the learning mode and still couldn't get it to work for some reason.

    • How did you get it to work with air con?

      • Can't exactly remember but I think it was something like this: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1020003 Comments suggest people have varies degrees of success. Mine does a lot of things but is not a 100% replacement for original remote.

        • +1

You use the learning facility to clone commands from the original A/C controller, I did it so our 650 can control the kelvinator split level system.

Any infra red controller can be taught to be controlled even the garage door.

  • Used to love my Harmony remote until I found out about HDMI CEC. Now it's hidden away collecting dust…

    • Yes this works with my Apple TV connected to my Bravia and Playstation but my SONOS playbar doesn't use HDMI so that system can't work.
I.e. it's not universal and only works with HDMI devices.

I've had one of these for years. Works well with my Panny plasma and Philips sounds bar via HDMI ARC. The biggest thing is that they are very durable. Ours cops a pounding from the kids and hasn't missed a beat. The original Panny remote didn't last long. Also great on batteries. I honestly can't remember changing them in 5 years.

    • My kids must be really nasty. I'm on the 3rd one. Still worth it because they really do flog it.

      • No kids, and our 650 is dying, takes many presses to get some buttons to work. Being backlit it eats its share of Eneloops cycles too. It is several years old though.

        • Tuba - if buttons are non-responsive and you feel adventurous you can take the remote apart. The buttons are part of a rubber mat that gets food, sweat, drinks underneath it, meaning the contact patches underneath no longer conduct current.

If you clean that with mild soap or metho and then dry and put back together you will find a much better response - and probably better battery life.

Just be careful taking it apart because tabs can get broken easily and the battery contacts feed through the case and can be broken.

I find it will keep coming back even after cleaning, so eventually a new one is the best.

        • @Public21: Generally the contact on rubber buttons is a metal coating that rubs off. Its caused by not pressing gently, or square, and over time the skipping over the surface as opposed to just touch, wears it away. Not that Ive pulled this apart, but other remotes in the past thats been the case.

          Its worth a crack though.

        • Same here one 650 still going strong. Other older one has some buttons stopped working, others hard to press. Mainly the nuimeric keys.

Lucky I got a 2 spare just over 1 year ago when they were $40.18 delivered from Mwave after $40 cashback from Amex. Haven't seen them below $55 these days.

        • I turned off the "backlight when picked up" feature. Made a huge difference to the battery life.

  • I have a Harmony One, and used it all the time back when I had a number of devices to use. Found it pretty good, the only flaw was not being able to add a time delay between commands.

Then I got a HTPC, which replaced the TV's built-in TV tuner, the WDTV, and the DVD player.

I still use it, but it doesn't get as much of a workout these days.

  • Yep, I have 2x 350s. They're excellent.

    • Im thinking of grabing a third. Such a pain when you cant find the remote.

  • +1

Maybe a little off topic, but amazing to see how well the 650 has held its value. Below average price, but was posted for $30 here over 5 years ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66417 Forward on and it continues to sell at about $50 - $60 now. Pretty impressive when most tech stuff either depreciates in cost or is simply EOL or replaced with newer model.

    • It's the new barter economy.

    • Think the $10 wifi touchpad keyboards will kill these, once most people upgrade to smart TVs.

      • Many flagship Android phones nowadays have IR blasters too. However, the software experience is often not that great and it's a bit of a pain getting the phone to have all the commands you want learned on it.

  • These remotes are fabulous. We've had one in the family for over 5 years and it's still going strong. Maybe I will buy a spare.

  • +3

I like these remotes. But I hate that you require an online account to program them. Once the service is pulled the remotes won't be programmable any more. They'll be permanently attached to the devices you have and any bugs in the way you've programmed them will remain.

I've also had issues with one of them requiring the batteries to be pulled because they freeze.

    • I agree with you re being tied to an online account, BUT I have to say that I'm running a Harmony One which I think would be over 6 years old. In that time Logitech have changed the way they do things and maintained compatibility.

I guess I'm saying I agree with you re being a potential for obsolescence, but they've proved themselves to me.

  • Which stores are carrying this item? I called WW Indooroopilly (Brisbane) and they don't have it. Also it doesn't show in the WW online catalogue.

    • Also not carried by Kenmore or Sherwood stores. I wonder if any stores in Queensland have it. Where was the item originally spotted for sale?

      • Lidcombe Nsw

      • Bought one at Gasworks (Newstead) … plenty of units, $40 price tag but scanned as $28 with -$12 as promotion

  • I used to have a 650 but found it to be lagging when controlling my NVIDIA shield tv. Very frustrating, now I just use the gaming controller for the shield.

  • Nothing at Central Park Sydney 🙁🙁

    Thanks OP got one ,
I had to ask a Woolies packer ,
that went out the back to get because no-one (according to him)could be bothered put up for sale on the shelf .
So you may need to ask someone familiar with the storeroom.

  • Have been using one for about 18 months, bought for$30 from the liquidation sale DSE had back then. A few buttons have started playing up. Need to replace it soon.

    • Same here paid $20 at same clearance. As a basic remote its ok. Although I till prefer the flexibity and more customizable 650.

  • Has anyone used these with Epson projectors?

  • For those looking about 5 on shelf at Woolworths Croyon VIC (Arndale Shopping Centre) no promotional price tag (only $40 one) but scans at $28.

  • Got one yesterday at harbour town next to Radelaide airport. Not worth flying to Radelaide just for this but if you happen to be flying through…

  • Thanks OP!! Got the last one at Chermside West. There were none at Westfield Chermside not North Lakes. It was hard to find but so worth it!!! (I broke the remote for my z906 and the replacement would have been like $70 from the US).

It's a great remote for entry level, you can program buttons with a software and sometimes, like with my z906, thy have more functions than the ones available in the original remote!!!
