  • If you are looking for entry level DSLR's, try to consider the Pentax K-X. Very good specs and performance for the money. The CMOS is comparable to mid-level SLR's. The image stabilizer is in the camera body and not on the lens making the lens cheaper to buy. It also accepts lens from old pentax SLR models available in ebay for a fraction of the price of Nikon and Canon lenses. • but it uses AA batteries…

      • which can be bought anywhere in case youre caught out..
and you dont need to carry your old battery around…
or worry about having a international plug when on holidays..
or the manufacturer phasing out the battery and leaving you in the cold…

theres good and bad with AA and custom size rechargeables and each have their place.

  • I have bought majority of my gear from these two stores. (My gear consists of 2 DSLR bodies, 5 lenses, 2 tripods, 3 different bags for different occasions and a few other miscellaneous stuff)
    www.digidirect.com.au
    www.digitalfunstuff.com.au

I have found DigitalFunStuff providing more personal service and advice than DigiDirect. However, DigiDirect have a bigger range and slightly better price for some equipment. Both these stores sells only official Australian stock and do not grey import.

There are some other stores that are a bit more competitive than these two stores but they are either grey import or lack of service.
Go to www.d-d-photographics.com.au for cheap grey imports. If you know what you want and don't need any advice, go to www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au. I personally don't go there anymore due to a past experience regarding service.

  • I think the best place for camera is http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/ , i bought my sony DSLR from there. Also if you are looking for an entry level then why you need to spend 1000$?? you can get a sony entry level one for 500-600 bucks with kit lense. And as far as you are not a professional there is no point for going to a high resolution camera, as its only just filled out your hard disk space.
