I would try to price match this with Sony directly and try to get cashrewards cashback on top.
I don't think they will price match ebay.
They do from authorised sellers like Camera House and Digidirect. Have done it probably dozens of times during ebay sales with coupons.
Sony did do a price match but need to speak with their chat first otherwise they decline it.
their chat has been nothing but awesomeness for me, i probably have matched 4 or 5 units (all alpha cameras) over the past 6, 7 years. as long as it is in stock, a authorised ebay seller (most of the time its digidirect since they usually got the lowest price, or their own website), they just process it. and within 10 mins my chart price has been updated and check out as usual.(make sure cashreward is on going, and later claim sony cashback).
code not working for me
Any idea if a tax invoice is provided with this ebay purchase? Might be able to claim TRS when I fly out.
shouldn't be a problem if you request one - I did this in past and they email it to me.
A standard Camera House invoice usually comes with the item too.
The invoice shows the price of the item before any eBay discount codes.
Confirmed that Sony will price match. I just did it through the chat
With the cashrewards $250 and the AMEX $50 off Sony, that brings it to $1969, I think?
Does CR recognise pricematched item?
yep, the price match is just an edit to your cart price.
should not affect cashreward since you still checking out as usual.
done many times already.
its always "triple-action" for me to pull the trigger ,
price match, cash reward, and cash back.
hell yeah
Thanks for this, I noticed when they pricematched for me they added directly to the cart. Does CR still track if I click through to the Sony website but the item is already in my cart?
@SupplyandDemand: I went back to CR, clicked the link to Sony and the item was still in my cart so I proceeded with the order. No idea if it tracked but I have the click registered at least
@Jayphen: i should show up within 10 mins. even if it doesnt, it should at least showing you were browsing sony website at the time(its called click history i think, just make sure that happens first) so you can still use that to open a ticket if it missed the purchase tracking.
@Hornpub: A month later and cashrewards are ghosting me, not replying to my emails about this cashback.
@bokchewy: It shows up in the click history, but has not registered as a purchase yet. It says to give it 7 days, then I can open a ticket.
It was tracked by Amex yesterday ($50 off)
From CR:
What you need to know
Tracking Tips
Empty cart and/or wishlist prior to clicking from CashrewardsJust made the purchase with the following steps:
- Price-matched via chat with Sony rep. Sony account cart populated with the discounted camera.
- Logged into CR -> Sony store -> Paid using Amex card (nearly paid via Paypal and missed the $50 amex credit)
- $250 CR cashback was registered within minutes and I can see the pending charge on my Amex card.
- Waiting for order confirmation from Sony now.If all goes well, the camera will cost me just over $1,750 ($2,369 less $100 Sony cashback, $250 CR cashback, $50 Amex credit and $215 TRS).
@ddhar: Damn, I went through the same process but did not get it registered on CR for some reason. I guess I'll have to go through the pain of a claim
accidentally ordered the silver variant, but I intended to purchase the black one. The price for the silver variant is being tracked, but the black one is showing $0. Will I receive a refund for the price difference?
Anyone made the swap over from A7iii to the A7cii? Hardware wise I believe they are very similar but the smaller form factor is appealing to me. I've been trying to reduce my kit size recently so looking to get a smaller camera.
The viewfinder and lack of dual slots are probably the things that bothered me most when I used one. The first A7C I couldn't deal with because of the missing front wheel dial but since the A7C2 has one that probably addressed my biggest issue with the body.
On paper the resolution of the viewfinders seem identical. I guess I'm used to it on the A7iii but I understand the viewfinder on other cameras are significantly better. The dual slots for me is a nice to have I guess but for my use I think it's not a deal breaker.
The magnification and design of the viewfinders/eye pieces are different so it will not be the same experience. Would recommend going in store to try one if you like using the viewfinder.
A7 III viewfinder is larger(magnification and 0.5') although same resolution, and eye piece is larger, makes it more comfortable.
A7C II viewfinder is better than gen 1, but still not as good as A7 III, mainly due to small eye piece. That is the compromise you have to take for compact body.
A7C II IBIS is noticeable better in my usage, maybe 2 stops better - did not do comparison test yet. It got touch screen menu, which is also an improvement; but I am fine with A7 III old style menu with fn button to quickly switch tabs.
Another improvement is the mount, now only a small orange ring instead of whole orange strip.
Lastly for video usage, the new strap does not shake.
Otherwise basically a Sony.
@belrose: agree, EVF is better than none, thats about it, im just surprised it is this bad, ALONG WITH the display for a camera that came out at this point of time, where ever other competitor has way sharper displays………thats the major downside for me……(i even ignored the joystick……dual slot would be dream….ofc thats not gonna happen in this line….)
just bought one, any lens recommendation for beginners?
sony 35mm f1.8 is relatively cheap and has excellent sharpness
50/2 air from viltrox, razer sharp, dirt cheap, feather light, imo the perfect lens to be on that camera 95% the time.
Tamron 28-200
The 35mm that was mentioned is on $100 cashback too btw https://store.sony.com.au/prime-lenses/SEL35F18F.html#prefn1…
But for a first lens I would go for either 35mm or 50mm primes, and look for second-hand. You don't know what you will like yet, but most photographers keep a nifty 50 or a 35mm or both, so you might like to start with something cheap and then upgrade to something faster (smaller f-stop) once you get a feel for it.
I got the 50mm f2 air from Viltrox that @Hornpub mentioned (thanks for the tip!). It was something like $200 on aliexpress. Seems like a great lens to learn the camera and have some fun with.
My favourite camera is my Sony RX1 which has a fixed 35mm on it and I've travelled the world with that, just sometimes felt like I would've liked zoom range but these days I take take those snapshots from my Pixel camera. You might find that you never need more than a single prime. You might also find that you like the small profile of the a3c with a small lens on it.
Anyway, have fun! I can't wait for mine to arrive.
Best bet: used 55mm f1.8 Zeiss lens.
I see these selling for about $400-500 used. I've had one since it came out and it's super sharp.
Depends on your budget and shooting preferences: For general purpose, the Sony 35mm F1.8 is great (and cheap!). For wide-angle preferences, Tamron 20-40 F2.8 or Sony 20mm F1.8.
When you are ready for a second lens, get the Viltrox 85mm f1.8 or f1.4.
Not a fan of superzooms like the Sony 24-240 or Tamron 28-200. Their size makes the A7C bulky/unwieldy and their renderings do not wow me.
Pretty crazy when you consider the Fuji X-E5 just launched for $2699. I love Fuji but zero chance I’d pay the extra premium for that over a body like this.
Fujifilm are losing the plot, they are pricing them out of the market. Trying to extend their run on the X100V/VI popularity by bringing this model out. I could never understand why you would pay $2500+ for the X100V/VI series.
Yeah their pricing has been insane as of late. I couldn’t justify paying that much for any APSC camera tbh. I loved my X-S10 which I regret selling, you could easily get it for $1000 most of the time then they put the price up to around $1500 just so when the X-S20 came out at $2000 it wouldn’t seem so drastic of a price difference.
I ordered on Tuesday afternoon. Got the Cashrewards cashback within 10 mins. Order was confirmed yesterday and it arrived this morning before I left for work. Can't wait to get home to play around with it.
Forgot to mention that I ordered via Sony and not Camera House eBay. They were able to price match.
FYI: "This listing was ended by the seller on Tue, 17 Jun at 2:26 PM because there was an error in the listing."
I just clicked the links in the description and it goes to the Sony Australia eBay page. The price is $2499 but there's a $120 off so it becomes $2379.
looks like its over Sony eBay store is now 2699, missed out :/
Bruh isn't RRP like 4k
