Lenovo P8 Tablet, same as Tab3 8 Plus in some market I think, is currently on sale at GearBest for USD $129.99 delivered (around AUD $169). Only the white version has the discount. I am still holding onto my old Nexus 7 2013 and it looks like a good upgrade.

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 / Adreno 506
  • 3GB RAM / 16GB ROM / MicroSD up to 64GB
  • 8inch IPS 1920x1200 display
  • Android 6.0

There appears to be a way to root the device & install TWRP and but can't find any alternate ROM, which is a bummer as it has SD625.

Update: coupon code found by dragonindespair brings the price down to USD $124.11.

Update 2: Price dropped further to USD $121.11. Coupon code above no longer works.

Update 3 coupon usable again

This is part of Singles' Day Sales for 2017.

  • Did anyone receive theirs with an opened box ?
As in the Lenovo sticker/seal was already cut open…

    • Mine was sealed from an earlier shipment

    • Got mine with one of the seals broken too.

  • I haven't recieved mine yet. Tracking info just says collected in China so I'm guessing a few days off yet.

  • Received mine this morning.. 2 units, both with the lenovo sticker cut open.. both units appear to be unused in any way though..

Also curious was that every piece of documentation in and on the box referred to them as Tab 3 8 Plus's not P8's…

  • Yeh i noticed that too… I guess the "P8" might just be a nickname.

Damn, I wonder why all the stickers are cut opened ? … Factory refurbs perhaps ?

Should we make a complaint ?

    • Afaik seal broken is common for grey importer. That's fine as long the item isn't obvious second hand. You got a bargain. Try Google or ebay and see how much others are selling that tablet.

  • Got mine today. My daughter will be pleased she will have her own tablet.

Didn't realise it doesn't have a physical home button.

Other than that happy with minimal bloatware. Reminds me of my Nexus 5.

I hope we get an upgrade to Android 8 or at least 7, but I won't be holding my breath.

For some reason Chrome doesn't display some website photos properly. I will have a play tonight once I get home.

The screen on my 3yo Samsung Tab S 8.4inch tablet is still slightly nicer. That's not a negative on the Lenovo as you can't complain about the screen for the price, but for some reason, I thought it would look just as good as a 3yo device.

    • To be fair the Samsung galaxy tab s and s2 are really solid devices.

People who have bought it honestly won't see a difference in screen quality for many many years to come not until maybe at least 4k tablet screens become more common and even then maybe not really.. it is a solid Samsung device and should last for many years to come.

Specs wise its still holding on but it's 3 gigabytes of ram I think will be the first kink in its armour that makes it become an "outdated" piece of hardware fast more so than its cpu or gpu imho because apps are starting to use a lot of memory and more and more updates and features means more ram usage since android is already pretty slim when it comes to memory usage already although there are still always more slight improvements that can be done.

      • The screen of this is good, but I can easily notice the difference the lower resulation / PPI density. My 5inch phone has a higher resultion than this so when reading small text you do really notice it.

However it's great for my daughter who will use it for movies and youtube where Quad HD isn't required and can be a drawback (power consumption to process).

I can't say I've ever been happy with the performance of my Samsung galaxy tab s even when new. Yes the specs were great, and screen still fantastic, but it never felt snappy to use like my Nexus 5 or Samsung galaxy S7 or even the P8. It always felt laggy and was prone to freezing even with few applications installed, also battery life was never great even new. It improved when Android Nougat was installed but is still laggy at times. It put me off buying a Tab S2 8inch, plus the P8 is such a bargain.

        • Can't argue with that.

        • @AlienC:

I just read my comment again, surely my browser or something changed my spelling from resolution to the rubbish above! lol

        • @JB1: lol I didn't even notice don't worry I made a huge typo mess a few days ago or yesterday looked like I had a stroke which I probably was from going 1000 kilometres per hour on Ozbargain threads, deals and comments.

  • Can anyone suggest a good case for the tablet please?

    • some recommendations above

      • thanks,I will have a look.

  • Can someone tell me is it possible to swap around the back and multi-taskin buttons on the screen?

I want my back button to be on the left, and my multi-tasking button on the left. Is this possible?

    Thanks

  • received mine today all sealed up lovely little tab

  • @scotty I've negotiated another coupon for this tablet. 11.11AUP8 is now active again to be used with the White model only. Includes free express shipping to AU. I sadly can't post this as this bargain already exists, so if you would please be so kind to update this one. Thanks :)
