  • I really need to stop spending money on headphones.

I think these have noise cancelling (NoiseGard or something Sennheiser calls it)

    • any thoughts re compariosn to Bose QC35 and QC35 II ?

      • +1

I used to have the wireless Momentums , sold them and now have the Bose QC II's . To me both have the same sound quality , but the Bose noise cancellation is far superior .

        • Really? I find the M2 (not wireless) much better than my QC35 (1).

        • @congngo:
          Each to his own.

      • +1

Based on reviews, most people seem to agree sound quality is better with the Momentum's and the noise cancelling is better on the Bose. Depends on what you prefer I guess

      • +2

        Sound quality: Sennheiser
        Noice cancellation: Bose
        Mix of two: Sony

        • For the guys comparing Sony, Bose and Sennheiser, here is a rating chart from the Sound Guys:
          https://www.soundguys.com/best-noise-cancelling-headphones-5…

          Sony 1000XM2 : 8.8/10
          Sennheiser PXC 550: 8.7/10
          Bose QCII : 8.6/10

I don't own a Sennheiser at all, but I do own the Sony 1000XM2 and Bose QCII and can say the Sony 1000XM2 is a much better headphones in terms of Sound and Noise Cancellation. Probs for Bose for making a good looking headphone as well!

        • @ZoldyckR:
Sennheiser PXC 550 and M2 perform differently. At least according to what I read, both in NC and sound. If I remember correctly M2 is better sound and PCX is a bit better NC. I only own M2.

I have had QC35 and MDR1000X (don’t know about the second editions). For those two QC35 is better NC. MDR1000X Has more clarity in bass reproduction that QC35 is missing. I found Sony to be unpleasant to listen to due to its sharp (too much) bass. Also Sony wasn’t as comfortable on the head.

Maybe it’s all different for the new Bose and Sony.

        • @g1:
I never ran the old MDR1000X nor the QC35 so I cant really compare on that end for me.
But, my analysis is in on par with the Sound Guys review of the headphones for the new series.

I read on a lot about the old series where QC35 was better than MDR1000X.
But in this ERA, the new Sony 1000XM2 destroys the new Bose QCII.

          • Sound 1000XM2
          • Base 1000XM2
          • Looks QCII
          • Noise Cancellation 1000XM2
          • Wear (At first it was the QCII, and after awhile both feel similar around my ears)

that was my personal review PRIOR to even seeing the Sound Guys review.

Any buy is a good buy anyway.
If anyone is looking into the market, don't go into JB Hi FI and try them on there.. go to a reputable sound store that allows you to test and use your own music :) That way you'll indentify which one is better.

I use the Bose QCII when Im out because it looks better on my head lol, use the 1000XM2 in the office and also at home.

          +1 agreed

I think the QCs have better noise cancelling but the sound quality (and imo the sound signature) of the Momentums is better.

I think you have to consider where you want noise cancelling, as well. If you want it in an office then these are going to do that just fine. If you want NC for air travel and need absolute silence then the QCs are probably better.

        • +1

I have both the QCs and these! The Momentums definitely sound nicer but the noise cancellation isn't as good. Definitely gets rid a lot of the hum on a plane.

If you didn't have both, you'd think the Momentums are fantastic. It's only side by side with the QC's that you realise how much quieter it can be.

Easy to decide though! Do you like your music to sound better? Or for it to be a bit quieter? Every flight since I bought these I have used them over the QCs ;)

Regardless though, you'll definitely be happy with either of them!

        • @androo:
I would swap M2 for QC35 for travel as airplane noise kills some of the sound clarity of M2. I had swapped QC35 for M2 originally for sound, for do it all cans. Now that I listen to open ‘phones at home I would rather have Bose back for travel :)

    Wtf How did Harvey Know?

    • OMG, Gerry is visitor to OzB !

    • Haha probs just the redirect link used when you clicked through. Did you try to negotiate a lower price? I didn't give it a shot but now thinking maybe I should've. If you did let me know the outcome!

  • My long, painful search for headphones is over. :')

    • +1

The search never ends…there is always something better :-)

      • It can become a dangerous & expensive interest. You buy some headphones and think you are satisfied but then you realise you need a good DAC and a good AMP so you go down that rabbit hole. Then you want to upgrade your IEMs so you drop some dough there. Then you learn about tube rolling so you start buying those and playing with it.

I have resisted the vinyl stuff so far…

        …So far.

        • But just think of the strong will it took to last all that time in between those purchases. Its how I get through……….

    • Same! 'Cept I REALLY wish these were available in Ivory :(

  • +2

I have these and I use them frequently with late night TV. They have low latency aptx which means no noticeable lag compared to all the other Bluetooth headphones out there, so no lip sync. Highly recommended

    • This is what bugs me with the qc35s

    • What TV has aptX LL? Or are you using a BT transmitter with aptX LL?

  • I purchased these for $600 last year when Amex had spend $300 get $100. Split over two cards, I spent $400 after the $200 cashback. Sennheiser also had a cashback promo so I got back $100 from that as well.

For $300, it's a great buy. Plus Sennheiser's warranty service is amazing. The Bluetooth on my unit just randomly died after five months. The headphones turned on but didn't connect with any of my devices. I couldn't go into pairing mode as well. I sent it off to Sennheiser for repairs but they couldn't fix it so they gave me a brand new pair. The turnaround was pretty quick, about 4-5 business days.

    • That's a brilliant deal from a year ago! Was hoping Sennheiser would bring back the cashback, but alas not. How's the replacement pair holding up? I remember the first release/batch of M2s had connection issues, you experienced any?

      • My pair is working like a charm, I'm having no problems at all.

  • Noticed they also have the Sennheiser Urbanite XL but they’re $100 more.

    • +1

Urbanite XL are no good. The bass is overpowering and muddled.

      • I have the urbanite and momentum, both are excellent for wireless phones. Bass on urbanite is not muddy for me and not much more than the momentum. Momentum sounds better, but urbanite sounds more fun and I find I go back to them every now and then!

    • Hmm I bought a pair of urbanite xl wireless back to 2015. Amex deal + Sennheiser cash back + new customer voucher = $125 from Harvey Norman. That was a good day…
