  • Fellow OZ Bargainers, is it cheaper to buy a whole system for a newbie pc person or buy individual parts? I saw two good systems here -

    From Futu Online - $2558.2
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-2TB-500GB-NV…

    From PC Byte - $2527.2
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-16GB-500GB-M-…

    Both have:
    Intel Z370 Chipset
    Intel Core i7 8700K
    2TB 7200 RPM SATA
    Samsung 500GB SSD M.2 NVME
    16GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM
nVidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti OC
650W/750W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
    Windows 10 Home
PC Byte one has 120mm Liquid Cooler

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I usually suggest building your own as it is cheaper, isnt hard (1 day theory, 1 day prac and an extra day for troubleshooting). But that is a pretty good price if you use pcpartpicker youll see that it would cost about the same to build it yourself. But what resolution will you be playing at cause for 1080p this is overkill, 1440p would be swell and although this system is more for 4k i just dont see that being viable in 2017 unless you have tons of cash and are willing to upgrade every generation.

To be honest, if you're not experienced or don't know a whole lot about PCs, I would buy the prebuilt. It will save you a lot of heartache and frustration, should anything go wrong.

As for your 2 options, I personally would go with the PC Byte one just because I think the case looks better. They seem pretty similar but I wish they would both specify mobo models, and for futu to specify what CPU cooler is has

      • But I reckon he/she should learn how to build it themself. It's good knowledge. It's very simple and there's plenty of videos online showing how to build one along with the manuals the parts come with so it's not too difficult.

On the other hand, the prebuilt system comes with warranty for everything so if something breaks you don't have to find out what it is and you can just send it in for repair.

      • You clearly do not know how simple it is.

It's simply foolish to not learn how to build your own PC to take advantage of cheaper prices and the ability to upgrade as you wish.

I would argue building your own PC and upgrading (depending on what it is you're upgrading) are quite different…
I'm not going to disagree with you there, I would encourage everyone to learn how to build a PC, but if you know almost nothing about PCs then I would advise against building one yourself unless you had someone more experienced helping.

You clearly do not know how uninformed some people are, not saying that in a bad way, but if people simply do not dedicate time to learning/researching then you really can't expect them to know how this shit works.

  • I have a i5 750 cpu with a 970. Would it be a waste for me to get the G1 1070?

    • Yes because by the time you can afford a new CPU + mobo + ram the prices would of dropped

I have an i5 750 and a Vega 56, more powerful than a 1070. I'm happy with my decision, My i5-750 is overclocked to 4.0Ghz though. I'm able to get stable 73fps to match my monitor refresh rate, upgrading my CPU and motherboard would be pointless unless I also get a higher resolution / faster hz monitor.

A 970 is still a pretty decent card. Maybe wait till next generation of cards for a better bump, not that a 1070 isn't a good card.

        Any reason for a neg?

I usually loathe to talk about bottlenecking because people overemphasize it, but yours is certainly a case where the bottlenecking would be excessive enough to warrant avoiding it. The 970 you already have essentially takes your i5 750 close to the limits, stepping up from a 970 to a 1070 is a serious jump but you would only see a small amount of those gains in most situations due to your CPU.

I have a heavily overclocked i5 2500k paired with a GTX 1070 and they complement each other well, but if I had my CPU running slightly slower or a less powerful CPU it would hold back the 1070 too much.

Stick with your 970 until you're ready to move to a new platform entirely.

  • Whats the difference between these two cards?

    • The "Windforce" has two fans and slightly slower clock speeds, the "G1 Gaming" has three fans and slightly faster clock speeds out the box.

    • I suspect the G1 has a better heatsink and it also has some useful power and fan indicator LEDs.

  • should i buy this 1070 now or wait for black friday sales would it go any lower

  • Good price cheers.

  • What's up with computer alliance charging $15 delivery for standard Aus post?!

As futu online and Pc Btye delivers free and if you wanted courier delivery over Aus post with Futu for example, courier then is slightly faster at $12 to $15.

So common Computer Alliance don't use the $15 extra for delivery when, your competitors charge free for standard AUS delivery!!!
