  • How does Amazon's warranty works?

    • 30 days with amazon, then you deal with the manufacturers after that. In this case, it would be WD USA~

Thanks OP. External HD for the One X sorted :)

  • anybody know whether these have the integrated controllers or can you remove them from the enclosure?

EDIT: I'm 99% sure that none of these do anymore but can't find any confirmation on the "Portable" line.

  • Are these external drives any good for permanently connected photo storage?

I currently have a 3.5" HDD (WD Green drive) in my mini-itx pc, along with a couple of SSDs crammed in. It's only meant to take either one big or two small drives so heat is becoming an issue in summer as the airflow is a little screwed up.

My large drive is also slowly degrading so looking at replacing it soon.

Would I be alright to have this as an external holding all my photos?

Personally, I wouldn't run one constantly, especially as a backup solution.

      • Fair call. Would a 2.5" internal HDD do okay? - my green drive is currently 2TB so looking for minimum that amount, but more would be nice.

        • a hard drive dock is the most affordable way to start a secure backup routine.

        • I would go 3.5" personally, if it's on 24/7 and writing a lot of data, then something more suited to a RAID array would be better.

Thanks just grabbed one for backup storage :)

Thanks OP, good for backing up the family photo's/video's with a quick getaway in case of fire/police/aliens.

  • According to this review on Youtube

The Passport is slightly faster and currently USD 104.99 on Amazon.

Maybe the price has gone up since this post?

    • Yeah it was US $99 before delivery so has gone up around $8 US - I'll expire the deal…

The passport are nice and have been hovering around the $104 US mark for a couple of weeks - was lucky to get 1 for 95 US a few weeks back and have been checking back regularly :)

      • No prob.

        Cheers
