  • 115MB per day. Good I guess for someone who is always in a WiFi area.

    • +15

Also good for those who want to keep their jobs

  • +9

Looking at the last deal, these packs should have an expiry of around November 2018. Good for those currently on the 12 month super pack. Assumingly, once it expires (mine expires in Feb), you should be able to add this new pack to your account?

    • This is what I need an answer to

      • +5

And would be great to know if the data from the previous pack rolls over.

        • +6

That is a great question, I would assume not but I've added it to the support ticket I opened with Aldi asking about the voucher expiry date. I'll let you know when/if I hear anything.

        • +1

Critical information summary says it expires upon earlier of recharge or expiry. So it won’t roll over.

        • +1

          @nuts:

Here is the response I just received front aldi so take it as you will:

Thank you for contacting Aldi Mobile E-Support

All vouchers come with an expiry date so if you are looking to purchase another make sure that you check this with the store first.

Unfortunately data roll over is not available on the super packs.

If you require any further assistance please feel free to respond to this E-Support ticket or alternatively you can download our Mobile Application and visit our website (https://www.aldimobile.com.au).

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

          Kind Regards,
          Michael M (U)

    • Sorry, I'm new to these Aldi packs… does this mean you have until Nov 2018 to activate it?

ie I could activate in Dec 2017 (to run until Dec 2018)?

      • +1

        Correct

    • Seems that stacking a pre existing super pack isn't allowed: "You can only have one of these packs added to your ALDImobile service at any one time. This means you cannot have a 1 Year Super Pack and a Data pack at the same time. Once you have the 1 Year Super Pack added to your service, we will not allow you to add any other Value Pack or Data Pack to your service; this is to avoid accidental forfeit of your 1 Year Super Pack."

      • How about if you run out of data after 11 months of use?

        • Apparently you have to port out and back in.

        • @sween64: wow! That's a bit mental

If you want to make any calls to numbers not shown in the rate table below (e.g. international numbers) you will need to add Pay As You Go (PAYG) credit to your service. Once your Value Pack credit has depleted or expired, usage will then be depleted from your Pay As You Go credit (if you have any available) at Pay As You Go rates. Please refer to the Pay As You Go plan information for full rate details.

Data Add-on: Once you have used up all of the included data, you can buy a 2GB Data add-on for $15. You can add it to your Value Pack at any time you wish but you should be aware that each time you add a 2GB Data Add-on you will forfeit any previous 2GB Data Add-on you have purchased. The 2GB Data Add-on will expire after 30 days or sooner if your 1 Year Super Pack expires in less than 30 days.

The Data Add-on can only be purchased through the website, mobile app, or by calling us. Please note that you cannot add this using our automated phone system recharge option.

Data is charged per 1KB which means the minimum amount of data you'll consume in each data session is 1KB.

Any charges you incur that are not included as part of your 1 Year Super Pack or Data Add-on (if any) will be deducted from your Pay As You Go credit. Please refer to the Pay As You Go plan information for full rate details.

      • +1

Not sure what your reading but the page says

If you do run out of data before the end of your 1 year expiry, you can buy a 2GB Data Add-on to keep you going, for just $15.

        and

The 2GB Data Add-on gives you 2GB of data for $15 and can only be added to the 1 Year Super Pack.

The 2GB Data Add-on gives you 2GB of data to use in 30 days, or sooner if your 1 Year Super Pack expires in less than 30 days. You can add up to 10 x 2GB Data Add-ons over the course of the year. You should bear in mind that when you add a 2GB Data Add-on, it will wipe (forfeit) any data you have from a previously purchased 2GB Data Add-on so we recommend that you only add 1 Data Add-on at a time, to make sure you get the best value for money.

Just curious - What has your experience with aldi mobile been like? I bought one in august and waiting for my current contract to expire before I activate mine in Jan'18.

      • +1

        Seamless.

      • Reception is awesome, especially in Sydney cbd and weak spots around sydney. Much better than vodafone, kogan and boost (for me).

I think this is because it ia on the telstra network.

Only downside is the customer service if you ever need it.

        I recommend it.

        • -1

Its not Telstra network as you know it. Telstra has their own Retail network then a much inferior wholesale network which they sell off to Aldi and others. Thats why reception is crap - yes i agree

        • +3

@Amayzingone: You might have misread. "Reception is awesome…customer service (is crap)"
I find I have amazing reception also …

        • Hate to break it to ya but boost is telstra..

      • very good never had any problem. one time I was shocked Telstra had problem in the area I was in. aldi still worked.

    • I'm currently on a 12 month pack that ends in March. Roll over would be great!

  • +8

    Aldi works out 3.5gb @ $20.75/month (promo)

    Jeenee $22/month with 5gb (permanent)

    Kogan ?

yes yes, assume to disregard telstra vs optus vs vodafone thingie.

    • +7

assume to disregard telstra vs optus vs vodafone thingie.

for many people, optus network coverage is still crap, both in some inner melbourne suburbs, and still crap down the mornington peninsula.

      • Can you please name one of these inner melbourne suburbs? I am intrigued- why is it so?- I'll check Oztower to figure it out.

        • +5

Westgarth has had about 1 bar receptions for as far back as I can remember. Indoors, it's virtually no reception. Thornbury too.
There are also blackspots around balwyn, kew, hawthorn were telstra coverage works fine.

Down the peninsula, lots of places around the foot of Red Hill. Optus signal is very weak, but Telstra works well.

        • Knoxfield is one. Voda is much better here

      • +2

        Still crap in Adelaide.

      • +4

Optus is shit even in CBD forget any other suburbs

        • +2

          Optufail.

    • $20/Month with 13GB

      • +2

        which deal ?

        • No way its 13gb a month for $20…

        • 11gb/mth 365 day prepaid with discount (still current) $250 odd

    • +1

I just ordered that 6GB / 365day for $211 Kogan one (I got the express shipping)
It's voda network I admit, but last time I was on them, it was fine.

I can't deal with Telechoice 2GB anymore - I am tight as heck (I refuse to go over $20 per month)
Was happy with service but sadly, I need about 2.5GB a month (heavy month)

  • +2

Was hoping for a data increase to move with the KOGAN times, but still a good deal for most of Telstra Network.

    • +2

To make matters worse, Ruslan sent me $20 miss you long time dollars.

      • +2

He is such a clingy ex-girlfriend.

  • +1

3.5G per month. It is not as good as Kogan deal.

6gb for 365days is just $205.60. Kogan is cheaper than Aldi and also has more data. Is there any more benefit I missed in Aldi?

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

    • +16

Aldi uses telstra Kogan doesn't. For some that matters

      • +8

Kogan does not offer international roaming on ANY of their products. This is a deal breaker for me.
At least with Aldi, while you are overseas, you can receive SMS from your bank, colleagues or friends.

    • Apart from Aldi using the telstra network and kogan using vodafone, kogan is better value

      • +1

I'm testing the kogan freebies and I'm lucky to get H+ from VF

        • What's H+? Isn't that really bad?
          4g better ?

        • I would be happy to get a few bars of H+ outta Optus where I live and visit…

        • @lovepub:

          H+ = 3.5g

        • +1

          @nocure:

I'm using kogan freebies too and it's 4G and not in the city. YMMV

PS: it is quite useless saying this or that is better than this or that. We know very well how it works. If it is bad many will shout, if it is good many will be quiet.

        • @bargainparker:
Could be the lack of the magic "band 28" in my case.

        • +5

          @lovepub:

          GPRS (114Kbps) < EDGE (368Kbps) < 3G(3.1Mbps) < HSPA (14Mbps) < HSPA+(168Mbps) < LTE (200Mbps) < LTE-A (above 500Mbps)

          or
          G, E, 3G, H, H+, 4G

          or

          G/E (GSM), 3G/H/H+ (UMTS), LTE/LTE-A (LTE)

          (and yes - all theoretical)

      • Better check out your voda reception before jumping onboard Kogan. I get zero Vodafone reception in my office so Aldi is obviously great value for me.

      • +6

Kogan is cheaper, but not necessarily better value. Value is a perceived thing.

  • I used kogan before, awful signal. Aldimobile uses Telstra wholesale, so the signal is much better.

    • +9

Completely depends on where you are and whether your phone has all the correct bands.
I get an excellent signal everywhere I go in Melb with a Kogan SIM

    • I use cheap data month deal sims WW(TelstraBgrade), Optus, Kogan travelling up & down the east coast and find in that area they all run well but Kogan always wins on value.

  • +1

Activation Date - from the T&C's "The pack you purchased in store will have an expiry date on it,
this is the date that the voucher must be activated by"

    • +2

Historically 12 month expiry from the on-sale date before the activation expires, then 12 month coverage from the activation date.

  • +2

Not a bad deal for 3/4 Telstra but the data allowance is pretty slim

  • I chucked my 14GB for $1 Kogan sim in the bin- useless.

    • +2

Should have given it to me!! LOL

    • i have used a few cheap offer Kogan sims and they worked well. Better than back in the days of Vodafail.
Should have passed it to a OzB brother..

  • Been using this since late February, and since September on a Chinese phone WITHOUT BAND 28.

A nice upgrade for those on Aldi's L or M plans.

A bit disheartening to read that Telstra Wholesale's coverage is not identical to Telstra's but I'll take it over Optus and Vodafone.

    • +4

Telstra wholesale is 95% coverage of Telstra retail. I think only Telstra and boost do Telstra retail.

I'm with Kogan Vodafone and works fine for me and is $50 cheaper with 2.5gb more data per Month.

      • what about Woolworths Prepaid. Don't they offer 'Telstra Retail' ?

        • +1

Pretty sure Woolies is also Telstra Wholesale.

        • +1

          @sween64:

          Correct Telstra Wholesale 😎

  • Hi if I purchase this pack do I have to wait for my previous one to expire before recharging with the new pack or is this stackable?

    Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Not stackable. It will override your current Super Pack.

      • 👍

  • Anyone know what happens if within the year you lose your phone and SIM? Do they replace it?

    • Yes, or you will loose unused data and time.

    • +2

I don’t see how it’s aldi’s problem if you lose your phone.

      • +1

Based on (child's) experience - you will need to buy a new SIM (eg $5) and get the account cut over to it. Easy enough.

        • +1

This is what I was expecting and hoping for. Thanks!

  • Hopefully by the time my lebara $180 360days/60GB plan ends next year
It be on special again, don't want Pay $20 a month.

  • Are these only available in store?

    • +1

I should've clicked the link and read. Yes, only in stores.

  • +2

So my gripe with Kogan is that you do not receive a missed call or SMS when the phone is turned off or you have no signal.
Can anyone on Alid mobile comment on missed calls?

    • do you mean a notification of some type when you miss a call regardless of if the caller leaves a voicemail?

      Does /any/ operator do that?

      • So you're saying no operator does that?

This actually happened to me and Kogan said it was normal, I thought it wasn't.
I went somewhere with lots of interference, so no signal. Someone tried calling me while I was in this steel jungle and it went straight to voicemail. I walked back to signal and I didn't have a missed phone call.

        • I wasn't aware that anyone was offering it.

I'm on telstra (main) and Aldi for a backup device - I've never received anything on the Telstra phone and the aldi device is static.

Turns out I dont have it enabled on my telstra phone (its operator specific) - https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Pre-Paid-Mobiles/Turn…

      • +1

Telstra does by default, I think Optus does to.
        I find it pretty annoying.

But I guess if you lived with spotty reception you would find it useful?

  • +1

Does someone want to start a chart of all these deals to determine if in the last year it's been worth locking oneself into 12 month contracts?

    I might. Eventually.

    • A quick overview like this?

      • +1

Nah, but it's still interesting and useful. Thanks.

ALDI isn't the best example since except for a small stint in Queensland they've kept this same deal going on and off since February (AFAIK) and there isn't as many Telstra MVNOs for an apples-to-apples comparison or to provide much competition.

The basic premise is that a lot of mobile providers like to shaft customers on existing 12 month plans rather than upgrade them when inclusions change.

So for example, if our basic needs are Telstra reception, unlimited national calls, unlimited SMS and 3.5 GB data/month you could take this ALDI deal from February 2016 and then decide if before February 2017 the pre-paid inclusions with Woolworths, ALDI, Boost, Lycamobile etc had improved so much to have made locking oneself in for 12 months an economical disaster. This can also apply to new 12 month deals (but of course you can't fairly compare the value of an old deal with a new deal when the new deal itself may be superseded by an even greater extent in the coming months).

This is especially relevant where inclusions change exponentially rather than linearly. For example, if you lock yourself in for a 1 GB/month data deal for 12 months to save $2 a month but then after 6 months 2 GB takes over the 1 GB price point across the industry.

I personally faced this dilemma with Optus MVNOs. I'm "stuck" with Amaysim until early next year because I rationalised that the 2GB Groupon deals won't be beaten in that period at a similar price and even if they were, the savings were enough to make it worthwhile as long as I used the plan for 2 months. The catch was that there was a possibility I might have moved to a new area where I needed Telstra reception and/or significantly more data before the savings were realised.

The Groupon deal was so cheap and only for 6 months so I would suck it up if I left Amaysim but if I spent $200 or so for 12 months on a deal that no longer cut it I'd be kicking myself.

  • +1

In a past conversation with an Aldi checkout person their comment was along the lines that these packs are sold at several times during the year. He also thought that the NEW pack can be added to the service when the old one has run out. It was also suggested to purchase a new pack and to have it available for use later, as the packs may not be available when the existing one runs out.

So, I expect to buy another for a follow on to the service when the 12 months runs out. It would be handy for an Aldi insider can confirm if this will work, or is it only for a new service start?.

I have found the underlying Telstra service to be great so far.

    • You are suggesting buying an extra 365 days pack and leave in the cupboard when your newly recharged 365 pack runs out in end of 2018??
That's a lot of waiting for the extra pack

  • 3.5 GB a month is good enough for most people therefore this is the best deal

  • -2

Be careful. Aldi Mobile does not allow for mobile data tethering.

    • Use hotspot

      • Isn't this the same thing?

        • -1

Yup. They're the same thing. To my understanding Aldi mobile blocks sharing your data :(

        • +1

          @infraredshell:

Works fine for me, Aldi L plan, HTC M7 as a host, is it blocked just for the 365 plan?

        • +2

@nocure: !!! I just tried hotspotting with another old phone and it seems to work. Eureka! It may have been my Zenfone 2 playing up. Thanks!

  • +1

Aldi's Large Value Pack is $25 per 30 days and gives 3GB. I'm not sure an ~$5/month saving is worth locking down an offer for 12 months. The Large Value Pack also offers 100 international minutes.

  • +1

    re 3.5G/month plan comparisons

It's actually better than most monthly data plans as it's 42G of data over a whole 12 months. 12x3.5G/month for most plans won't let you roll over unused data.

Ideal for me as I don't rarely hit 3.5G but occasionally are away from wifi and can then use my quota.

    • +1

Indeed… my first world problem: 100 days to use 28000MB.
