The data's cap is a real bummer. I'd exhaust that in 4/5 months.

    • +17

The Kogan mobile deal is $205.58 for 5gb per month for 1 year prepaid with unlimited std calls and texts.

      • +15

The Lebara deal for $180 is even better.

        • +8

If you need only data, vodafone's current half price deal on prepaid mobile broadband is also pretty good. $25 for 10 GB of data for 180 days. Nice and long expiry, coupled with the best bang for buck at $2.5 per GB (compared to the rest of the long expiry deals out there).

        • Lebara use Vodafone right?

        • @biggweilo: It's part of Vodafone AU now.

        • +12

This is for a premium network, for those of us in regional Australia Vodafone is patchy and optus are somewhere in between.

        • +5

Hence no way I'm going with them Vodafone still very poor

        • @philart: depending on how regional you are, telstra propper is always the better bet at 100% of the network

        • With International call option aswell

        • Yeah - 360 Day SIM Pack - Unlimited Talk, Text & MMS + 5GB = $15/month. no option for roaming may kill it for some.

        • @srhardy:

Not where we are in suburban Melbourne. No Telstra. Great Optus and Vodafone coverage. Telstra does NOT have the best coverage.

    • $29.90 for Six Renewals of amaysim UNLIMITED 1.5GB Mobile Plan with 28-day Expiry (Don't Pay $149.40)
      Need voucher from Groupon

  • +3

Assuming you get decent Voda coverage, Kogan deal seems better no?

    • +12

      Aldi use Telstra

      • +18

        Not full network.

        • +8

No idea why you were negged @unavailable. What you say is correct. I've got an aldi sim but when I go west of Roma in Qld I have to swap it out for a telstra sim. Many rural centres in Australia have telstra coverage but not Aldi. Some other telstra resellers do better than Aldi in the bush, even.

        • @redcreek200: are Woolworths mobile better for rural coverage?

        • Yeah maybe not out the back of Burke. We live in regional NSW and never had an issue with Aldimobile or Telechoice, but we have with Voda and Optus.

        • +1

@hen dawg: No they resell the same network.

        • +3

          @hen dawg:

From their coverage maps, Boostmobile has better telstra network coverage then aldi.

        • +2

          @philart:

@philart, one or 2 hours drive west of Roma in Qld is not "back of Bourke".

I want to make clear, I'm not knocking aldimobile - I use them myself. But people traveling in rural Aust. need to know their coverage is not the same as Telstra or some other telstra resellers.

        • @redcreek200: "Many rural centres in Australia have telstra coverage but not Aldi."

How does that work? (I am aware this is OzBargain not Whirlpool, but if you have the time to explain…)

        • +1

          @Cleremy:
@cleremy, in short aldi's network arrangement with Telstra does not include all of telstra's towers. ie Go to some rural centres and you'll get a telstra signal and maybe some other reseller's signal, but not aldi. Each reseller has their own arrangement with telstra.

        • @redcreek200:

one or 2 hours drive west of Roma in Qld is not "back of Bourke".

It isn't? It is if you live "front of Bourke" in Melbourne mate. No offence.

        • @redcreek200:
I set my sister up with Oppo F1s on Woolworths. She was in Charleville (west of Roma) last week and said calls and data all good. So yes they must all have different deals with the big T.

        • +1

@redcreek200: the phones capabilities also come into play. Not all phones support the same frequencies as others, so some people's experiences may differ on this also.

        • +1

@redcreek200: Boost get the full network, other resellers just get Telstra's "retail" one.

        • @hen dawg: i've found Woolworths mobile a pain around Orange, Bathurst, Dubbo. Pretty much in town fine, everywhere else nil. I'm with boost now (pretty much coverage is same as aldi just pay more) and reception is much better. I think I'll give aldi a shot again (left because customer service was shit)

        • @terrys: Cheers for the info. didn't know this. now I need to rethink

        • BUT,
even with less Telstra's "retail" network, is it better or worse than Opt/Voda resellers?

  • Anybody still using is from the last time this deal was posted? Thoughts? Can you set your own cap on the data?

My concern would need about leaving it on and for one of my apps to chew through it all.

    • +2

Can't you set that on your phone anyway (as a fallback if Aldi doesn't offer it in from their side?). My LG phone lets me set warnings and data limit.

      • My mistake, your absolutely right. I have it on my phone also. That solves that problem.

    • I got it in March if memory serves, I upgraded from the L plan and still have about 38GB left. I'm still being frugal but at least I don't have to worry about data like I did with only 500MB per month.

      • Very disciplined if you've only used 4gb since March.

I get a few GBs a month with Telstra prepaid and am finding it just doesn't stretch as far as it once did on busy months.

  • Nice!

  • In my area Telstra was worse than Optus. Not really worth it unless you're in the CBD or areas that actually utilise b28. This isn't the full Telstra network anyway. I wish I'd taken the Kogan deal instead.

Definitely don't buy into the Telstra network hype before researching with a temp SIM to be honest.

    • I just bought a phone as a replacement and was sent the US version with no Band 28, and Aldi (Telstra) in my area is woeful now. The only other band i have is 2100. So now i need to find a carrier that supports my phones bands.

But yes, i would say the same, between now and when the deal is released, grab a $5 sim and test it first. It isnt a bad deal for Telstra backed network if your phone supports it fully.

      • My new Moto g5plus which Telstra rep advised against because it wasn't blue tick like my old Xperia z has better coverage… I'm assuming it has more bands, maybe worth investing in a new new phone and selling that one cheaper?

        • +1

Give me a high 5 on the G5 Plus! Got one of them for the wife and I might just get the same for myself.

And I bought a Nexus 6P to replace a broken 6P. Didn't realise there was two versions. It still works, but I have noticed that it usually has low reception to where the previous global version of the phone was always a solid full reception…

    • +2

You could always go the Lebara deal, which like Kogan, uses the Vodafone network. $180 for 360 days of unlimited calls and text and a 5gig data allowance every 30 days: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/310082

    • +1

I have a duel sim 3G/4G phone with a Telstra (work) sim and a Kogan (personal) sim. I mainly travel between north Brisbane and Sunshine Coast. The network coverage I get between the two sims is on par. Sometimes Kogan is better, sometimes Telstra. Generally pretty close comparison though.
The Kogan data speed is slower most the time being on the Optus network, but is still plenty usable.

Edit: I switch between sims for data depending on how much I go through, so I get a good comparison of data sim being on 4G and secondary only being on 3G.

      • +15

        I have a duel sim

        Are the SIMs always fighting?

        • +2

Maybe it makes his phone challenge other phones.

        • +1

They are always fighting over who gets the 4G antenna :(

        • I have duel sims at 30 paces. I'm waiting for a good 20 pace deal.

      • Kogan uses Vodafone, not Optus, mate.

        • Indeed they do, not sure where that brain fart came from. I knew it was Vodafone they used :S

      • Kogan is vodafone not optus

      • Kogan is on vodafone not Optus.

edit guys above me are onto it

    • +2

Horses for courses. In my area there is NO Optus reception, 3 bars on Telstra. When I complained to Optus they gave me the finger so I'm now a happy camper at Telstra .. :-) .. !!

      • Glad to hear that. I still have trust in the Telstra network. It's just that I wish I had realised it wasn't always going to be the best by testing it on a sim first.

  • +4

I have been enjoying this since the last deal. The coverage isn't great as I found Amaysim to be better but it still fulfils my needs. I find it funny that I lose coverage while pushing the trolley for my fiance in our local Aldi.

    • +5

Maybe your reception will be better if you get her to push her own trolley? :)

Why do you think coverage should be any better inside Aldi? It's just a Telstra tower. If anything the Aldi building is shielding you from all that pesky radiation.

  • +6

For those out there who aren't great at maths-

    • 42GB is 3.5GB a month

    • 42GB works out to be ≈115MB a day.

    • +5

Should also mention it's $20.75 per month.

  • what's the last date to activate the service?

    • +2

The 1 Year Super Pack is now available only in ALDI stores from 28th June 2017 until sold out. Make sure you use the voucher code that is inside the pack by 30th June 2018.

      • -6

I meant what's the last date to activate the service by using the voucher

        • +1

That's the date there: 30th June 2018. The pack contains a SIM and a code and you apply the code on activation.

        • @greenpossum:

thanks, sorry that I missed the 30th June 2018 from the previous reply

  • For a split second I thought that it was offering 42GB a month - imagine that!… Ah i can dream :S

    • +1

For $249/month I'm sure someone would offer you that…

  • Is there anyway of purchasing this through the aldimobile website like previously?? My closest Aldi store is 1000km away.

    • Doesn't look like there is an eCommerce store at all.

The 1 Year Super Pack is now available only in ALDI stores from 28th June 2017 until sold out

    • If you know someone closer to an Aldi Store they could buy one for you and mail it to you or just tell you the voucher code but you will need an AldiMobile sim to apply it to.

You can order a sim online to use with the voucher code or to have on hand if/when they make the offer available online.

$5 with $5 PAYG credit 365 day expiry. Also handy to check out AldiMobile coverage.

    • May be use Airtasker!

  • +3

Other than the telstra network use by Aldi, Lebara plan still seems to be better choice

I'm currently with Telstra and live in Sydney's lower north shore and commute to the city everyday. I find Telstra's network rubbish, for half of my train trip my data drops. Anyone recommend voda or Optus for my area?

    • Try some prepaid starter packs feom Optus and Vodafone.

      No signal or network congestion?

      • +1

Full coverage and says 4g but no data loads. So I guess congestion? I originally thought it was my device but I just replaced it and I'm having the same issues.

        • Vodafone and Optus eventhough might have reception but no data comes through.

At least with Telstra when you get a signal you know you get data.

the other two providers have no indication of this with congestion

        • +1

@neonlight: I find the opposite is true. I'm currently in the train at north Sydney station, I have full telstra 4g coverage but data is not working. It's 10.45am and there are 8 people in the train carriage, so I don't think it's a congestion problem. (I had to send this once I got to milsons point).

        • @jesse085:

I find the opposite of your opposite is true. It all depends on what area you are in.

        • +1

          @jesse085:

I find Vodafone is most reliable on the lower North Shore, living between Hornsby and Chatswood. Telstra is second and Optus is a crapshoot.

On Vodafone I have stable 4G, whereas in peak hour Telstra is unusable for more than half the trip to Redfern. Telstra for me is usable off peak for websites, but Discord calls that are very latency sensitive will disconnect on both Optus and Telstra. Optus really likes to hang on 3G and is usually completely unusable around Pymble, Wollstonecraft and North Sydney even when it's not peak hour.

I entirely agree with you, this is mostly congestion.

I would give Kogan (Vodafone) a try. First month is going for $1 again.

        • +1

          @jesse085:

Reading what you said again I find it really weird you have unusable data at 10:45 on Telstra, 7am to 9:30am I can understand. Check if your APNs are configured correctly for Telstra.

If the issue is recent it might be Telstra upgrading towers to 256 QAM or something.

        • @StrayfireX: Thank you! I live in Wollstonecraft where it seems particularly bad. I'm going to give a $1 Voda sim a try. Cheers!

        • +1

@jesse085: I also live in Wollstonecraft and currently use Voda (Via Kogan) and it works fine. In my experience it is better than Optus and about the same as Telstra in Wollstonecraft. However on train journeys it drops out less than Telstra and much less than Optus.

Another comparison point. If I shop at WOW in Lane Cove, I never get a signal with Optus but always do with Voda and Telstra.

    • I have the same experience with Telstra dropping during train trips. This is with 4G and with B28, mind you.

      • +1

Mines B28 also (iPhone 7). The worst part is when the data does drop it doesn't come backup for at least 5-10 minutes, even after I've moved out of the congested area.

  • +3

If Aldi offered international calls in this offer.. Sigh.

  • +1

What happens if you are already on ADLI mobile with monthly plan? Can you add this pack?

    • from what I read you cannot, here you go copy pasted
ALDImobile offers five Value Packs (S, M, L, XL, XXL), three Data Packs (1.5GB, 4GB and 6GB) and the 1 Year Super Pack. You can only have one of these packs added to your ALDImobile service at any one time. This means you cannot have a 1 Year Super Pack and a Data pack at the same time. Once you have the 1 Year Super Pack added to your service, we will not allow you to add any other Value Pack or Data Pack to your service; this is to avoid accidental forfeit of your 1 Year Super Pack.

I have pay as you go on mine, I will use it up before I activate this if I purchase it. You have a year to activate it.

      • Shame the Super pack doesn't appear as a recharge, as you might be able to use the credit towards the recharge.

        • I believe that my pay as you go credit would sit on my account but it is only good for a year so it would expire before this deal is up, which is why I will wait to use this deal.

        • @Sun n Moon: I believe you can use your PAYG credit for things not covered by this plan, like international calls.

      • I think differently. What I mean is I'm on Pay as you go. and If I stop the monthly direct debit to top up. I thought I could just buy this voucher to add to my expiring PAYG and extend it with 1 year with inclusions. Just need to wait until close to expiry

    • Not add as such, but let your monthly expire and then activate this recharge. Too easy.

  • +1

Oh man. Aldi is great as it provides coverage at our house where others don't but that 3.5gb is a killer. Adding two data packs would only give me 5.5gb when for the same price i would get 9 on the xl plan. Considering there is data rollover i will just alternate between xl and xll plans.

    • +2

I'm not sure why you guys struggle with 3.5GB data.

I don't use over 1.5GB a month with wifi at work and at home

      • -1

        why

        Pr0n

      • xHamster.

  • So far AldiMobile has been great, the only significant thing I am missing is VOLTE which they don't support yet.
