      yes, get at least 10.

    • Is this a serious question?

        Is this a serious question?

        • Is that serious post?

        • +1

"Why so serious?" - The Joker

    • -8

no - huawei's are crap - other then the battery life which is amazing, the UI just sucks for an android - and no updates, and they dont fit in your pocket which means you WILL drop it alot (even if you are careful).

      • You lost all credibility at then.

  • +9

Huawei Mate 10 now has 4G/4G Dual SIM (one of the first phones in Australia to do so),

wattttt!!!. Time to throw away my iPhone and Nexus?

      Throw in this direction 🤪

      • I hope you're a good catch 😈

        • I keep telling my other half that

      • +2

You linked the wrong item, it's a P10 plus.

        • -2

Sorry i thought they are the same

  • +1

When my 6P dies, this will likely be what I replace it with. It has 2 day battery life apparently.

    • +4

I've just replaced my dead Nexus 6P with the Mate 9. VERY happy with it so far.

      • Why not the p10?

        • Physically bigger screen (5.9" vs 5.1") and bigger battery (4000mah vs 3200mah). Otherwise, the phone is identical from the comparisons I made?

        • @tizey: Does the mate9 also have expandable memory?

        • +1
        • @angelkulit025: Sweet. Thanks! My 6p is exhibiting the known battery issues so I'm getting ready to take it back to Virgin for warranty. Have been told you get offered either a 10p or mate 9 and I was tossing up which one to get. But since they're essentially the same, I see no reason not to get the one with a bigger battery!

        • @Munki: what battery issue?

        • @jitubisht: Battery drops to zero when it gets to around 30%. For some people it's when it goes to 50%! My battery also has been draining a lot quicker. I'd go from fully charged at 7am to 67% by 9am with just listening to music through headphones and no internet. So yeah, it's apparently a known issue with the 6p.

        • @Munki: thanks for that. I have been getting poor battery life since the latest Android update. Was wondering about it.

        • @jitubisht: If your phone is still under warranty, I'd suggest you go get it replaced too. Otherwise it'll just be paperweight in a few months time when the battery inevitably dies.

        • @Munki: My 6p shut down when it drops to 80%. Didn't realise it only has 1 year warranty until it happens! Contacted both Google and Huawei. Nothing they can do except to pay to get it repaired.

        • @shraky: I'm not a lawyer but isn't there some sort of statutory guarantee when it comes to electronics that they are expected to last longer than one year? I'd look into that and contact ACCC if I were you…

Luckily I'm on a 2 year contract so don't have to deal with that noise, but that's disheartening to hear they're treating customers like that.

        • @shraky:

You can replace the battery in a 6p. Not too difficult except the bit where you have to pop the frame off - that is a real pain.

          https://youtu.be/zEQbQPAU9Ss

        • @shraky: I believe Munky is right. Apple were stung with this by ACCC a few years ago.

          http://www.afr.com/business/retail/apple-gives-australians-t…

It’s basically a ‘reasonableness’ test. Mobiles are usually sold on 24 month contracts. Therefore it’s reasonable for a customer to expect it should last for the duration of the contract. They can repair it, but you shouldn’t pay a cent. A 6p is not a budget phone so you should have zero issues after a cheeky ACCC threat.

        • @shraky: I had the same issue, but normally around 20%. When I was travelling in Europe and it was cold, then it was around 70%. Luckily I got in just before the warranty expired. But as others have said, you should be able to claim under the consumer guarantee.

        • @mooney: I never expected 12 months warranty still legal for mobile phones! When I called Mobileciti and referred apple case Mobileciti staff told me it was apple who chose to do so. My bad didn't check warranty period when I bought 6p from Mobileciti. Also like other people said Huawei doesn't have much after sale customer service. I've called Huawei twice and one staff told me wait till google release fix and another one told me to pay and send to its Cardiff's repair centre! TBH I wouldn't have bought it if it's just Huawei phone but google doesn't take responsibility as it was not sold from them.

        • @shraky: Go to ACCC. They cannot opt out of consumer guarantees no matter what they say. Apple didn’t choose to do 2 years. In fact they only honored 2 years when customers explicitly pushed them.

Youll win. You’ll get it repaired or replaced for free. 100%.

      • I've got a Mate 9 as well, been using it for 6 months with heavy gaming and internet usage. Been lasting me for 1 and a half day! Very happy with it!

    • +1

Correction. It's the Mate 10 Pro that I want.

      • +3

I was gonna go with the Pro too because rear mount fingerprint sensor makes more sense to me and my hands (and because I've been used to it for the last 25 months), but then I looked more into it, and whilst the screen is 18:9 and OLED+HDR; it's only 1080p compared to the base model's 1440p screen. No sale, hardly 'pro'.

        • +1

Personally, I don't think 518 ppi (6P) vs 499 ppi (Mate 10) vs 402 ppi (Mate 10 Pro) is that big a deal. Wasn't the iPhone 4 the first to have a "retina display" that (according to Apple) was the most our eyes could distinguish, at 326ppi. Having to drive less pixels is perhaps what helps the battery to last longer, which is a feature I'd rather have.

        • @puffinfresh: I don't think you will notice much unless you are on VR.

        • @puffinfresh: Yep, extra res just wastes battery, also this phone uses 1080p unless you change settings.

The difference in battery life (according to gsmarena reviews) between the standard mate 10 and the Pro is 10% in favor of the Pro.

        • Isn't the camera really good though. Rated 99 at dxo, higher than pixel2 and iPhones. Highest rating ever for photos.

    • Edit: Oops replied to wrong text.

    • +1

I too am waiting for my 6P to die and replace with mate 10 pro! Whose will go first? That's the real question.

    • No Phone lasts 2 days these days. Would be lucky if it lasts between 6am and 10pm for me

    • Out of the box at 4pm yesterday I had about 50%. I forgot to charge it last night, and it's sitting at 21% 23h later, and I've been constantly installing apps, playing around with the awesome camera, used social media etc.
My old iphone6 would've died about 16h ago.

  • Hmmm, this or the v30.

    • V30 is pretty expensive atm.

    • Mate 10 over V30, I also wanted the V30 but reviews advised it doesn't feel premium at all. Too light. Plus POLED is still having issues

  • Is the camera the new EnVision?

  • +1

Allphones has this for $790(after 20%) excluding Camera. Also pickup @ Parramatta available
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Huawei-Mate-10-5-9-Dual-Sim-4G-4…

From what I can see, Huawei EnVizion 360 camera isn't worth the $90 difference

  • +1

Come on huawei watch 1 for AuD 150 or less

    • Agreed… one of the best looking smart watches made… way better than the second generation. I want the first gen Huawei to replace my first generation moto 360

      • +1

people still selling second hand for $200, good condition or not i dont want to pay that much for and old model. have to be $150!

  • -1

Lucky 888, I wonder who they are marketing it for

  • +1

researched this phone a lot recently and looks like a ripper. I ended up going the cheap route with a Nova 2i

  • Just be aware the difference of Mate 10 vs Mate 10 Pro

    • +3

For those looking for the differences:

      http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/142493-huawei-mate-10-vs-mat…

Personally the Mate 10 looks like the better phone, especially for a couple of hundred cheaper.

    • Weirdly the non-Pro has a way higher res screen, SD card slot, front fingerprint scanned (I prefer that) and a headphone jack.

The pro is slightly more slender, has water proofing and more RAM/storage but it costs more. I don't think they can justify the extra price though because it's really a tradeoff in features.

The Pro mostly seems a "it's more like everyone else's flagships" rather than the non-Pro that makes a flagship without sacrificing as much, which IMO makes it the better phone.

      • +1

Hmm. It's mainly the fingerprint scanner that's doing it for me on the Pro since I'm used to the 6P. The waterproofing would be awesome too, but I will miss the headphone jack on occasion. SD card doesn't bother me, nor does the screen res. However, price could be a factor. Interesting toss up.

        • Hmm, I seem to recall reading somewhere the Pro would come with a USB-C converter for headphone jack.

          Edit: Here we go https://www.phonearena.com/news/Huawei-Mate-10-Pro-headset-j…

        • @xiahwolf: I've read that too. I'd leave it permanently connected to my earphones, so plugging them in would really be no different to now. It's a slight annoyance because I know there's random times that I may need a headphone jack without notice though. Few and far between.

Now that I think about it, my earphones are Huawei branded and can recharge the noise cancelling battery via the headphone jack on some Huawei phones. I wonder if the Mate 10 (non pro) is one of them.

  • I loved my mate 8

    • Except the camera under not so bright light.

      • Bought a Mate 8 and returned it after a week!

        • because of ?

        • @dragonindespair: Massive, lack of features, No Nougat, Speaker was broken etc… I might suss out the Mate 9 when it's a bit cheaper.

        • @alz: yeah i have to admit, nothing really special. well except 6" and small bezel maybe?
i dont really think updated O/S much (as long not like i have android 2.0 and others are 7.0).
all looks the same after you install nova on top of any mobile phone/os.
          my speaker is fine.
but vibration is SUPER DUPER WEAK. i hate this.

  • -4

don't forget mate 10 is halal certified.

  • You can get it from JBHIFI for the same price. I picked up mine yesterday for $885 inc the 360 camera.

    • Is camera any good ? worth ~$90 as above ?

      • +2

I haven't unwrapped the 360 camera. To me it's more of a novelty thing to me. I'd happily give it away if anyone wants it.

Note: Also I have a feeling a lot of the early AUS stock comes with it, as the 360 camera is shrink wrapped with the phone.

        • Pick me.

But really, give it to a friend for Xmas

        • @PVA:

Wow, I got a lot of PM's about this lol.

Replying to all: I'm away for a bit, but maybe I need to look at how much these are worth!

        • +5

          @jayz:

You wanted to give something away on ozbargain… What did you expect?

    • Do they have them in store to have a hold & feel ? I can't see them on their website. Cheers

      • +1

Yep. I also had look at their website but it showed nothing. I went in and none were on display, but when I asked, they had them out the back, including their display model. The guy just said they hadn't had the time to set it up yet.

  • -2

Phone might be nice, but you know the drill. Huawei always lack software updates and after sales service or support. They are just like LG

    • +3

Not sure about other Huawei phones, my monster Honor Note 8 got updates every few months.

    • +2

It depends more on where the phone is purchased from, anything from an Australian service provider with their branding won't get any updates, but you can "rebrand" the phone to whatever you want and you will actually get a lot of updates.

      • How do you debrand it? I hardly get any update on my Vodofone Mate 8.

        • There is a tool called FunkyHuawei - it's hated in the XDA community because they built a tool that is easy to use, but charge for it. But it's worth it for me. If you do some googling you should find a bunch of information.

To debrand my Mate 9 I think was around $30, but essentially it extends the life of the phone by a year, so $30 is a cheap way to extend it. Getting all the latest security updates is worth it.

  • -2

Hmm.. wish they used Snapdragon chipset so I know what i'm buying.

    • +5

The Kirin chips are very very good. In fact this Kirin chip has a few things on it which make it better than Apple's and Qualcomm. It's very very fast. The 970 is fantastic. The 960 in the mate 9 is fantastic.

  • +1

Is the Mate 10 home button behave the same as P10 and P10 plus, which is one button for 3 function (home, back and multitask)? Tried on p10, not a fan of it.

  • +1

Phone prices are getting out of hand.

  • +1

my mate 7 burned while charging, very scary, never buy huawei

    • -1

Such can be said to Apple, Sammie etc. Dont buy anything rechargeable is safest. But ppl still get house fire from electricity and gas or wood fire….

  • So I might go for the JB hifi telstra offer, and use the $200 gift card to buy this!

    • -1

You want to use a JB gift card at mobileciti?

        • -1

? JB doesn't have 'this' deal

        • -1

          @8azinga:
Correct, bundyoz simply stated he would use the $200 JB gift card deal to purchase a Mate 10 from them which makes JB a much better deal for him.

        • @Tex Texan: Or he thought the Telstra JB deal came with a $200 gift card (like a prepaid eftpos card) that could be used elsewhere and was going to get this deal. He did say "this" which would imply this deal.

        • @8azinga: Nope, he's referring to this - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342509

        • @Tex Texan:
Yes, that is the Telstra JB deal I referred to. He might have thought the $200 gift card was an EFTPOS gift card you could use anywhere and not a JB gift card.

        • @8azinga: If only we could read minds! But I reckon the image on the deal, as well as clicking through to it, clearly show the gift card is a JB one so let's assume bundyoz is clever enough to work it out beforehand :)

        • +1

@Tex Texan: Sheez…..Of course I was referring to the JB card being able to put towards an outright phone from JB ….:). Anywayz, scored an s8 with 20GB of data from Telstra shop…..much better outcome.

  • OP, can u do any good deal on Huawei w1 watch?
