  • I think I would wait for an Amex deal to pop up to hopefully double dip. $450 to purchase a $500 gift card is not as good as in the past. I think the mahogany room people get a better deal on GCs because of their status.

      A double dip with an Amex deal would really be nice. But since one has just finished, the likelihood of it will be small, I think. But you never know, fingers crossed :-)

    • Im Mahogony, and better deals on gift cards ISNT a perk.

      • Sorry. Platinum which gives access to the mahogany room gives the SAME deal. Not better.

    Geez I was not expecting this. It had always been $500 for $400 over the years. No thanks this time.

  • Seems not usable at Crown Plaza Coogee (Sydney)

      It is a different company. It’s a bit like expecting to use the Crown Casino gift cards at Crown Forklifts or to be able to buy Crown Lager.

    • This Crown and Crowne Plaza Coogee are completely different chains, so yes, you cannot use it at Crowne Plaza.

    Not a bad deal if you were planning on going to Crown restaurants/hotel anyway.

    I purchased $2,000 value last year for $1,600 so it was a better deal.

    I forgot that I still had $100 of credit on my card which expired 2 days ago.

    I contacted Crown and they extended the card for another 3 months! 'Phew' While I would expect them to honour it after expiry its a nice for them to offer it rather than me fight for it.

    • I contacted Crown and they extended the card for another 3 months!

      Thanks, this is very good to know … who hasn't forgotten to use gift card credit at one time or another :-) I imagine most merchants will just say tough luck, if you did not remember to use by expiry. So it was very good of them.

        Crown's customer service is quite good.

        They already have your money, they're just letting you spend your money a little longer. It's not costing them anything but will gain them goodwill.

        I think 1 month extension is fair but 3 months is very fair.

        • I rather suspect the likes of Woolworths, Coles, and many others will not grant any kind of extension. I hope to be proven wrong, of course!

          @bluesky:

          Probably but Crown wants to keep the customer happy, free parking, meals, rewards, etc. of course they want to you to come back and lose money :)

        • @JB1: Absolutely! Yeah fantastic customer support. Just digressing, since you are also in VIC, the other day I went to collect my giftcard, and the friendly cust service personnel was telling me about reasonably-priced restaurants there; they highly recommended this Tia To, hidden away, which they tend to go themselves. And the prices were indeed very reasonable, if paid with discounted giftcards. So yeah, pretty happy with Crown.

          @bluesky:

          I can't say I have been to Tia To.

          With young kids, I don't go to Crown much (as it's not socially acceptable to lock them in the car/car park these days), so on the rare occasions we have been to Crown, we generally go to the more expensive restaurants for special occassions i.e. Nobu, Hestons (overpriced), Rockpool etc. In the past Number 8 had ripper deals for lunch.

          For Vietnamese, we tend to go to Springvale or Richmond.

        • @JB1: Number 8 has closed unfortunately. Tia To pho prices were about the same as Springvale (using discounted cards), except it is air-cond and beautiful surrounds. Hence the reason I was rather impressed. Never would have thought to go there, were it not for the giftcard staff.

          But know what you mean, Crown not exactly kid-friendly place.

          @bluesky:

          That's awesome value.

          Lunch at Number 8 years ago was fantastic, I remember 3 courses and a side (you could choose any main too) for $45 AND free valet parking! Those were the days :)

          These days, $45 won't get you a decent rib eye.

          In case you haven't been- https://www.zomato.com/melbourne/pho-hung-vuong-2-springvale Best Pho in Springvale, I've been going for 25 years!

        • @JB1: Thanks for the recommendation, will definitely try! :-) I am looking for good pho places.
