someone actually downvoted you for saying the deal is available on xbox too, can you believe that? What a jerk

  • +61

Cmon dont support this pay to win game

    • I was really keen to play the SP game but don't want to support EA and their sketchy manipulative practices. Gonna stream the story on YT and spend my gaming $ elsewhere. Maybe Horizon Zero Dawn DLC campaign.

      • I was also interested in the story for battlefront 2, after watching the first few missions on YouTube I'm not interested anymore…

    • apparently they have now removed microtransactions as of a few minutes ago

      • +2

Temporarily, the real news will be how its re-introduced

      • +3

Yep… so that they can add them back in again in a couple of weeks/months once all the negativity has died down.

EA calls it "controlling the conversation". They try to put positive spin on negativity to make people forget and get people to "Buy in". It's guaranteed this isn't over, and it's highly likely the reinstated MTX will be just as bad when they are re-activated, but EA won't care then because they will have all the suckers that bought this on launch because "Microtransactions have been disabled guys! Everything it alright now! You should totally go out and buy our game now that we are listening, right?"

        • Some news outlets claiming that the Disney CO got involved with the EA CEO.
So I guess it'll come down to whether Disney agreed with EA and just to wait it out, or if they actually demanded changes to protect their IP.

  • interesting bargain

    • +10

Only cheap cause it's full of microtransactions

    • not as cheap as last deal

  • +36

    Boycott this game

    • +17

      Boycott EA

  • +6

Yeah, but how much is Darth Vader?

    • +4

      4500 hours to unlock everything

    • +3

      1 Kidney

  • +8

This will be in the bargain bins very soon unless EA pull their heads out

    • Should be on Origin Access fairly quickly, though it will just be the base version and multiplayer essential DLC will then be required.

      • I thought they weren’t doing separate paid DLC maps this time around?

        • Yeah supposedly, but wouldn't trust it with the way they did the last one.
And since the backlash they have cancelled the micropayments now so may revert to the standard DLC packs and season pass model.

  • +24

I really want to buy this, but I'm taking a stance. It's insane that to unlock everything in a game you're paying for you need to either spend 4000+hrs playing or cough up an extra $2000.

The last one was such a clusterf__k that I still feel burned for getting it, and the main problem I (and most other Australians had) was the matchmaking - which apparently is just as f__ked this time around.

When it drops to $20 I'll probably buy it.

    • +2

Me too, I was really excited for it. It sucks because I know the core game is fun and looks amazing. I want to buy this game, but I just can't.

    • I would love to get it too but have the same feeling.

Bad Company 2 was great. Everyone got new new maps as they came out (except the major ad on Vietnam). It wasn't pay to win, you could unlock anything you needed pretty easily. I bought battlefield 3 and 4 but they really put me off anything more in that series or battlefront.

  • +6

    $59…plus micro transactions

  • +18

dont buy this please, teach EA & Disney a lesson

    • You can't blame this one on Disney, EA are the ones pushing the micro-transactions.

      • +1

Disney should know what they are doing with their product, essentially Gambling for kids. Thats pretty much what majority of 'chance' microtransactions are.

    • Us not buying it will make no difference

      • +1

Reddit post was down voted 676k times. even if half of that amount of people do not buy the game it'll make a difference.

Someone on Reddit explains that to hurt the company, its not about avoiding to buy ingame micro purchases. if you do not buy the game at all it hurts them.

  • -5

How is what EA is doing, any different to rockstar and GTA online? You either have micro transactions, or season pass.

    • +1

A season pass is $60. To unlock everything in Battlefront 2 will cost over $2000US.

      • -1

Didn't know that. What's the source?

Also, have you played GTA online? If so, have you seen how much it would cost to unlock everything on that?

        • +1

The HUGE difference between GTA Online and Battlefront 2 is that in GTA you know what you are getting for your money. You want a particular gun or car? You go to the shop and spend your MTX cash on it and get that particular thing.

In BF2 you want Darth Vader? You buy a RANDOMIZED Loot Crate and hope for the best. You might get it in the first 10 crates, or maybe in the first 100 crates, etc….

      • But you don't have to pay to unlock things right?

        • You can grind for 4000 hours.
Or you can play something else which lets every compeditor be on equal ground without P2W.

    • The difference is EA just had a major PR meltdown, they got caught and put in the spotlight. That and the whole randomised loot thing. Not saying that they don't deserve the backlash, but it's not like everyone else' ass is cleaner. It's another wave of gamers trying to push back the anti-consumer practices of the triple A gaming industry, and EA got caught in the crossfire.

  • +12

    Do not buy this game.

  • +2

Freemium system from apps in a 60$ game, not worth it

  • There’s been too much negative coverage of the progression system for there not to be any changes made, but just what changes are made is yet to be seen. Although very vocal, I’m sure the online gaming community will only make up a small portion of overall sales, so I’m not very optimistic that we’ll see any particularly meaningful changes (heck, they could make huge changes and it would still take forever to unlock playable characters). From what I’ve seen, the game is almost structured like a free to play title, but with a full RRP starting price.

All post-release content will be free, but clearly they’ve made aggressive changes elsewhere to make up for this lost revenue. It sucks, because the game is made by an awesome developer under a horrendous publisher. And now they have Respawn :(

  • +5

$50 for a new release AAA game? Just shows you that the stores want to get rid of stock, because you aren't really getting the full game aka all hero's are locked. Promotes lootbox gambling. No deal here. Just a garbage game trying to rip off customers. Also stop posting SWBF 2 deals, its pay 2 win , almost all content is heavily gated behind a pay wall. I would consider a deal if it were $10.

    • -4

It’s not $50, it’s $59. Who rounds down $9? Loot boxes are in just about every multiplayer game these days, even racing games have them. It’s not unique to this game. The progression/unlock system is an absolute joke, no question.

      • +5

        $49 on PC, just sayin'.

    • -2

EA just announced that there will be no in-game purchases…for now.
      So no longer P2W.

      https://twitter.com/EAStarWars/status/931332890717143040

      • +5

Don't buy in to this, their PR Machine is "listening" my butt hole.. they're responding to save face to their shareholders and soften the blow. People should hold out further and harder now. This is another "Pride and accomplishment" reply. It's BS.

        • +1

          I agree with you.

I'm just keeping people informed but trying to remain impartial.

        • +1

@putshan: there's no impartiality on this issue. They are desperate now and the point needs to hold firm or it's lost completely. Every other manufacturer/developer is watching this, if people cave in after a soft reply like this then it will become the norm.

        • @xdivino: Yep… the MTX will be in again in a couple of weeks/months once all the negativity has died down.

      • Literally in their statement, they have made it very clear the the microtransactions will be back. In the second paragraph, it states "The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date…"

    • will the game be less than $49 anytime soon? maybe $39?

      • I would be happy with Free to Play :P

    • $50 is standard for years, because there is the extra $40 or so season pass needed to get the full game. Basically game being sold in two parts.

Gambling microtransactions on top of that is just being greedy and they deserve the fallout from that.
Either system is fair enough, but not both.

  • +4

It's funny, this is absolutely a good price for a new triple A title, yet I wouldn't have dared post it with fear it became the most downvoted post in OzB history…

    • +1

Voted up both because it's the best available price and also to give the OP some support in the face of oncoming nerd-rage. :)

      • +4

Thanks, but I'd feel more comfortable if you had pants on while saying that.

        • +1

support in the face from nopantstoday, no thanks? lol.

  • +3

This game should be Free to Play

  • +1

Do not buy this game. #EAsucks

  • +3

Im going to Neg this deal because its cheaper if you dont buy this game.

Also dont support EA's anti consumer practices.

  • No deal. You can find this in the bin for free.

  • +1

Not buying out of principle of terrible microtransactions

  • +1

Anyone not buying on principle (myself included) all microtractions have been removed and EA had a emergency meeting. SOmething big is happening. I wonder if Disney stepped in?

    https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/7dgm7k…

    • Woah, interesting. Actually, it makes sense that Disney would step in with all the coverage on the progression system. Loot boxes = money = gambling. No way in hell would Disney allow their IP to be used (within reason) in this way. It'll be interesting watching this play out…

  • -3

Theres no more microtransactions anymore yall can buy this game now

    • Waiting to see what they do first. Ill buy depending on the solution, if i think its good I'll show my support with my wallet. If its a bandaid, they wont get a sniff from me.

    • +2

No, because then you're sending a message that "Okay we forgive you this one time" - until they do it again with the next game.

      • +2

Yeh I 100% understand that view point. And agree to a big extent. But sometimes positive reinforcement is beneficial to change as well.

  • +3

Don't support this crap. Full game costs $2100 or 3000+ hours of game time. Vote with your wallet.

  • +5

I have a sense of pride and accomplishment for not buying this game. Jokes aside, I will not support a game that uses pay-to-win, loot-crate rubbish for what should already be included in the game from the beginning and just takes gives the middle-finger to players. Don't let this be the norm in AAA titles, vote with your wallet! And while I will admit that even though heroes and star-card upgrades can be achieved without paying any money, the time it takes is abysmal for those that are time-poor.

  • +2

Anyone looking to buy this for their kids should be cautious due to the scandals around EA and micro transactions

    • -3

Micro transactions are gone https://mobile.twitter.com/EAStarWars/status/931332890717143… The people have spoken.

      • +6

It's not gone. It's been postponed.

The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game. We’ll share more
details as we work through this.

    • +1

In before after playing straight for a solid month, you still only have 1 hero unlocked. Then EA to "rescue" and enables micro transactions.
Also I'm sure there will still be a cooldown on earning credits in arcade mode, I still wouldn't buy this.

  • -2

Micro transactions have just been scrubbed from the game! What now since the internet got its way?

    • +5

You'll still need to play this game 2 hours everyday, for the next 6 years, to unlock all the characters. That severely disadvantages people who have to work for a living. If I'm paying for a game already, I want access to the whole game, not a crippled version of it that I then slowly unlock over 6 years.

EDIT: They will bring in-game gambling back later on. It's not gone, it's just postponed.

  • +2

This game deserves a new category just for it. Pay to Play. They can pay me to play it, considering they'll probably make their money back a few hundred times in microtransactions.

  • +3

    Ouch $59 on PS4. :(
Bought a deluxe digital ver 3 days ago for $120. Then double ouch when found out Vader is locked (took me about 4+ hrs to unlock him). Triple ouch I cant get refund from digital purchases.

    F me.
    F ea.

  • +5

I'm down voting as I don't feel people should buy this game on principal.
I mean no disrespect to the poster or the deal in itself, however, people especially parents shouldn't be buying this as a gift or that are ignorant to the bigger issue since it's not a mainstream media issue.

As a sense of Pride and Accomplishment I will be boycotting this.

    • Absolutely fair enough.

  • The latest on the changes on the game.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmF_Mrsy8AQ

  • Anyone know if this is for the physical copy or a download code?

    • +1

If you look at the PC listing it actualy shows that its a download only. No disc included.

Console versions will pprobably be physical. Although like most games probably be a big day 1 update patch.

      PS4 23GB
      XB1 19GB
      PC 27GB

      • Cheers bud I'm after the XB1 version. Sucks that they don't list it on there. Might have to give them a ring then.

    • +1

console is disc, PC is download code within game case. must pick it up from store

      • Cheers mate you sure about that.

        • Okay just rang them up y'all are right it's a physical copy for console and code for PC :)

  • +1

will the game get any cheaper than $49 anytime soon?

  • Microtransactions have been taken down apparently and Dice will be tweaking it further. Good on the community for letting them know this crap isn't on.

  • -2

to people complaining about Hero unlocks, don't buy it, simple. you know it takes 10 times as long to unlock Ronaldo or Messi in Ultimate Team on Fifa…..

    • Well when every new Fifa game is already a scam you should just own it and go all out.

  • -5

I know there are some who are not happy about EAs business model in gaming, but I honestly believe that's how games these days can sustain their revenue… which this generation of gamers easily jumping from one game to another.

I guess in this generation of gaming, it just needs a lot more patience especially with the unlocks etc… even though I do hate grinding, but dont take it as a grind… just play and enjoy the Star Wars gaming World experience in all its DX11/DX12 graphics glory… and its marvelous. If that is your aim, then those unlocks will come as a bonus later… just try experiencing all the lower tier heros first before the big jedi heroes get unlocked.

I mean if you put it this way, if they unlocked everything straight away, then most people will never really experience the lower tier heros and weapons as they would most always select the best options.

By the way, EA did do this version of Star Wars right, and its much much better than SWBF1!

    Good luck to all!

    Currently playing under deluxe edition

    • I agree Micro-transactions are not going anywhere in games. But there are better ways to go about it. Hell getting it right gives you alot of positive PR, overwatch is getting alot of praise for its system. But there are still micro transactions. EA just went full retard.

    • So what you're saying here is that it's fine to charge full price and (effectively) lock content people actually want behind a paywall (because no one will actually play long enough to get all the unlocks)?

These games are geared to be a grind so that you give in and open your wallet. It's not a generational thing - all they've done is made consumers pay for cheat codes and somehow people have just accepted that this is fine.

If the game was free, I don't think anyone would have cared as people expect Free-to-Play games to be a cash grab. The issue is that these anti-consumer systems are creeping into premium games to the detriment of gamers.

The idea of sustained revenue games is not about offering added value to consumers, it's about nickle and diming to extract as much money as possible. Why do you think we're getting less and less DLC which contains missions, stories and other content and more garbage like loot boxes that reduce payoffs and obscure actual costs?

  • EA is ruining there games with all these loot crates, cards and micro transactions. Fifa 18, Need for Speed Payback and Star Wars Battlefront II to name a few.

    • Does payback have a heap of these in game payments too - more than the last game?
