  • People still care about smart watches?

I agree, no real functionality, when you can just get a xiami fitness tracker.

      • -1

“Xiami” means shrimp in Chinese lol

        • +1

          It does not.

        • +7

@Nonverbose: If you know anything about chinese, you would know that pinying means nothing.

It's the actual chinese words that have meaning. Many words are written the same in pinying because they are pronounced similarly but have totally different meaning There's a reason Chinese books and newspapers are not written in pinying. Pinying is there for english speakers as a guide on how to pronounce a word they don't understand. Similar to Japanese romaji. On its own, it won't mean much. An entire sentence written in pinying, you could infer the meaning based on how it's pronounced. But if you give someone one word or two words in pinying, they would not know what it means without seeing the actual chinese characters (the ones that look like Japanese kanji).

If you own any Xiaomi product you will know Xiaomi in chinese is 小米 which means 'millet'. The pinying dictionary you linked to is wrong. In fact, what you linked to is xiā mǐ (虾米), not Xiao mi (小米). So you can't even read. That is originally the fault of the guy suggesting a "xiami fitness tracker" but everyone knows he is referring to Xiaomi, not xiami. Just as the word xiao could have multiple meanings, so does the word xia by the way.

          @lostn:
Try reading the comment before writing your essay. It's also universally recognised as pinyin, not pinying.

Yes, people care. My Moto 360 has a fault, and not having a smartwatch while it's being repaired is killing me. They're not essential or anything, but the loss of convenience is very noticeable.

      • Where are you getting your Moto 360 repaired? From Motorola or third party?

Mine has seen better days, back panel is cracking from the band, battery life is meh and screen has burnt in pixels.

      • I stopped wearing my first gen 360 about 6-9months ago after the battery stop holding a charge. I'm also curious where it's being repaired

Yep. Apple Watch has been selling like hotcakes since it now has LTE onboard. I love my LG Urbane 2 LTE for the same reason that you can truly be untethered from your phone.

      • -1

I didn't say Apple watch; everyone knows why people buy them and it's certainly not for the 'smart' features.
But realistically, unless Google do something DRASTIC with Android Wear, Android smart watches are dead in the water.

        • People still care about smart watches?

You didn't say Apple watch - you said "Smart watch" which includes Apple watch.

Just saying the reason why it is still relevant compared to the Xiaomi $25 jobs out there. It is LTE connectivity - something Google pretty much refused to do until recently with more support via AW2.0. The only way for these devices to be "better" than shitty sports bands is for it to be smarter overall and that comes with the requirements of connectivity.

        • Its good to have an opinion

  • Shame the reviews for this watch are not so great :/

    • Most bad reviews are because this one looks sporty and the first gen looks trendy. But you would wear this while jogging or bushwalk instead of the first gen.

  • I'm assuming this is the WiFi Version and not the 4G one.

    • +1

I could be wrong but think I saw an article saying they didnt release the LTE one in the US because they didnt have the right radio frequencies. Allphones was doing it for a pretty good price during the 20% off ebay sale ($460 or something). But out of stock now.

    • +1

Hopefully they sell the 4G one for this price this Friday? =)

  • +2

The concrete grey colour also appears to be on sale for the same price- you can update the post!

  • Apparently wifi version

  • +2

That first Huawei watch looked fantastic, this one looks a bit more sporty but preferred the first.

  • how many of these can i trade for male fragrances? i will buy five

  • +6

The Watch 2 Classic is also on special, I think for US 219 and only 32 more than this one that is a much better deal!!

  • Shame it isn't running until Friday, Amazon Australia launches then

    • I hope you are correct my friend

EDIT: just realised it launches tomorrow my god yes

      • Everything I've read points to an official launch Friday in time for cyber monday. At the least it should reduce postage?

        • Amazon prices in AU will include 10% GST

        • At the least it should reduce postage?

Probably not enough to offset GST.

But it will reduce "will not ship to Australia", which is much more annoying than a few extra dollars.

        • @easternculture: Good point! Should be interesting to see if us price + postage > au price + gst + postage!

For anyone who's just venturing into the Smartwatch business, I wouldn't recommend the Huawei Watch 2, especially with Android Wear 2.0. I'm not sure what the deal is with mine but using it is a lagfest. There are times when lag is almost non-existent but on days when it starts playing up, just navigating the UI is a PITA. In saying that, it hasn't happened in 3 days so I have no clue what's triggering the poor performance. So much for the hype.

    • Did you factory reset the watch after the update? Helps a LOT..

      • Done that twice already. I can't for the life of me work out the cause of the issue. The only apps I installed myself are Spotify (which is stuck on the loading screen), Google Play Music, Android Pay, Stocard and 3 watch faces.
Perhaps it's the Google App. Guess I'll disable that next.

        • I had some issues with AW2 myself on the Urbane 2 LTE. But after a reset, worked normal again. Had similar reports on XDA about the same thing hence I asked. I've pretty much got all that installed on mine too except Spotify (I use Google Music). So can't vouch for that application.

Says US warranty- will I still be able to claim warranty by sending this back even though I'm an international buyer?

    • +3

No warranty as you are not in us. I did send email to Amazon to ask.

  • Yes Wifi only, you can get the lte at this price in another 2 years from now.:)

But, you don't want the lte, really. It will eat the battery so fast you will need to turn the lte off and turn on when you need to make phone call or access data.

  • I still haven't opened my Huawei Watch 1 Black/Black -_-

  • Not about this watch but android wear 2 in general I don't get why they make swipe left AND right to have the same function (to change face). Would it be more useful for one of them to have other function?

  • if anyone bought this the concrete gray and want to swap with carbon black, msg me.
only mint condition swap with box etc etc.

  • Sorry for dumb question, but would US charger work here with different voltage?

    • +2

The watch charger is just usb you can connect to any Australian charger with usb ports

  • Beautiful, thanks dragonindespair :) ordered. it was a choice between this and samsung gear s3 frontier, on special now at HN.
But since I don't have Samsung phone, Huawei was a safer bet. Cheers.

    • you almost made the worst decision on your life.
gear s3 is running tizen you wont get full 100% benefits/features.
yes still works but not 100% - you'll regret it in couple of months im sure.

      • yup, that's exactly what I was afraid of. it was a long term thinking process :)
Not a bad deal at HN though, with AMEX deal it works out around 350 bucks for local stock… as long as you have Samsung phone.

  • I own the Classic. It's a great watch and I prefer it in every way to the HW1 I used to own. If you temper your expectations of what AW can do, this is great value.

Why do you prefer it over the HW1?
