  • Really great deal for the price

    • -5

It's a poor deal compared to other offers available - this deal is cheaper:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/337570
      $17.13/month for 6.08GB data/month.

This deal is the cheapest for lower-end data users:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/341936
      $9.90/month for 1.2GB data/month

Look further than this deal if you want to save money!

      • +1

        But that's kogan…

        • -1

Yes - Kogan as reseller only - the service delivery is actually with Vodafone directly (including T&Cs).

What's your issue with a lower price for a functionally identical product?

        • -1

          @factor: My problem is kogan

        • What's wrong with Kogan?

          Honest innocent question.

        • @AlienC: Poor customer service for if anything goes wrong

  • wow fab deal!

  • Tempting… I'm still on the old WW plan (5GB for $26 every 45 days) but this one is great. Should I change? 😱

    • +1

https://www.kogan.com/au/shop/phones/prepaid-plans/ comes out 40 dollar cheaper a year except no international calls

      • Amaysim is better if you want International calls, but only 1.5 GB data…

        • What's amaysims deal and do they stop you from incurring more data charges i.e hard cap you when you reach your monthly data limit?

        • @AlienC: I never went beyond the cap, but i think they charge a flat $10 for next 1 GB

        • @AG1304x: can you choose an option to stop it or not go over the limit or cap?

Bill shock is my main concern and am looking for plans with hard wired mechanisms or options to avoid Bill shock mainly from data limits and maybe even accidentally going over international free calls minutes etc.

Let me know if you have any plans that fit these. Cheers thanks.

        • @AlienC: There is mobile app where you can track it. But I believe they send an alert SMS once you reach the threshold

        • @AG1304x: anyway to stop it once it reaches it? Seems like only Kogan atm does a hard automatic stop on your data when you reach your limit and you have to purchase more data or recharge if you want to use more.

Really good concept I wish more carriers and mobile plans had this feature.

    • +2

The old WW is 3g only from memory, right?

      If so, yes…. change.

    • +1

Yes, time to change. 4G is a big improvement, plus you can get a lot more data & unlimited calls/sms for a few dollars more.

      • +1

Just a note…. VOLTE is NOT yet available.

I believe it should be available by the end of the year…. so I'm told on the Virgin forums.

  • -2

    Awesome deal !

  • +3

Great deal! Worth noting that Virgin has (finally) switched on VoLTE and VoWiFi, so there isn't much practical difference to Optus.

    • When????

I have no carrier settings update. Still showing 30.0

      • +1

Not sure about carrier settings. The info page is here but it seems to be Samsung only which is unusual. Though, my S8+ isn't on the list so might be worth checking with their live chat to check compatibility.

        • Awesome. Thanks for that.

        • I believe the handset vendor has to tweak the software and release a small OTA patch to enable VoLTE for each network, so makes sense that the rollout won't all be in one whack…

      • +1

        Depends on the phone. https://community.virginmobile.com.au/t5/Support-Articles/Vo…

S8, S8+ and Note 8 are switching on next week I think. iPhones in the next few weeks.

        • That's great news. Thanks

  • +1

Anyone know if you get an opportunity to enter the code if you're switching an existing account?

  • Can you sign up as an existing customer? I'm currently on 14GB for $40. but I think it ends soons

    • You'll find this in the 'fine print'…

New or re-contracting customers only, no rate plan changes.

      • dang. think I have 1 month left

        • +1

Just try online chatting with them. They usually waiver off a month or two

      • Hmm, I'm on month-to-month that exact plan. I guess I might be able to!

  • Order by 29th right?

Need to activate by when ?

    • would like to know as well as i am going overseas for 2 months….dont wanna pay for something i wont use for a whole 2 months

      • +1

I phoned and asked. Policy is you need to activate within 1 month.

  • Good deal!

  • -7

Kogan is substantially cheaper for 6GB, 12 month commitment. Their discount runs until the end of the year. No "new customer only" restrictions.

    • -No international calls included for Kogan
      -12 month commitment (upfront)
-Vodafone vs Optus (Differs depending where you are)
      -Global roaming on Virgin

  • +2

Jeenee mobile has 6.5GB for $25 a month(12 month contract)and everything is the same except cashback and maybe music streaming.

    • +1

i think virgin has international roaming ?

so you can receive your 2FA / bank sms code, for online banking while overseas.

  • Roughly how many international call minutes for $50?

    • +2

I'd imagine it depends on the country you are calling as the rates probably defer between them. But just by looking at the $50 dollar figure, the answer is most likely in the "not many" ball park.

    • Depends on the country that you call as they are charged at different rates.

The good part of virgin mobile international calls is that you can call any country opposed to selected countries.

      • Against money you can call any country - no biggie.

It's only when you have free unlimited international calls, you can call those 10 countries which are the same across all carriers. That list is pretty good though - covers all important countries where majority of people would call.

  • Signed up yesterday, I thought it was already posted on ozbargain LOL. Had I known I would have posted the deal.

    Looks awesome.

  • +1

I dont see this is a good deal when you can get Optus 17gb plan for $30 per monnth. Only 4 bux difference and you get a wooping 11gb more in data.

    • And not many international calls in both :-(

    • +1

Online chat with Virgin mobile….show them the Optus offer and they usually match or slightly better it.

The Virgin team are actually very helpful compared to some of the others.

      • Attempted this with no luck. They said they've raised it but can not currently match the offer from Optus.

        • try again in a couple of hours. it took me a couple of goes but got what i wanted. Different rep.

        • @Dud: All good. In the end, Optus or Virgin, I don't really have a preference, so went with the Optus deal.

    • +3

you can get Optus 17gb plan for $30 per monnth. Only 4 bux difference.

After cashback this plan is $20.25 a month, so the difference is $9.75 per month ($117 over 12 months)

  • Any chance I can buy now and activate it later? Current sim only expires in 2 months.

  • Will I get cash back for 2 mobile numbers?

    • +1

Good question. Something to think about…

      1. You get an extra 1gig per service if the numbers are on the same account. Speaking, you will get 7gig per service.

      2. Try 2 separate purchases to get the cash back. The risk is that you don't get the extra 1 gig per service. Not sure if you can migrate after the fact.

      • +1

I'm not fussed for the extra 1gb. The cashback would be nicer

        • Try 2 separate purchases, so the cash back is tracked individually.

Depending on when the cash back finishes, do it a couple days apart so that you can take FULL advantage of data gifting your unused or, previous months data that has rolled over.

        • +1

          @Dud: Virgin Mobile T&Cs on CR…

          • Cashback is paid on postpaid contracts and/or 12 month SIM only plans, and available to new Virgin Mobile customers only.
          • Cashback is paid once per order/transaction, regardless of the number of plans purchased on that order.
          • Cashback is redeemed from Cashrewards (not Virgin Mobile).
        • +1

          @tightarse:

          Thanks for clarifying TA.

          I stand corrected.

        • @tightarse:
TA - Do you know if "available to new Virgin Mobile customers only" Means that the cashback is simply not available to current Virgin Post(& Pre-paid?) customers.
Or if it is not available if you have ever been a Virgin Post/Pre-paid customer?
          Thanks

    • +1

I've been able to get the cashback for two plans I added to my current account (in addition to another) under the same name, but YMMV. As others have said, do 2 separate transactions and if you have issues with the 1GB bonus, contact support.

    • You might not be deemed "a new user" for the second mobile number.

    • Before I make the switch can anyone provide some feedback for virgin's customer service.

      • I was a long term Virgin mobile customer up until a couple (maybe 3) yrs ago, when their customer service continued to deteriorate beyond belief (like Optus has).
I haven't been back to virgin, and that is old news, but it's all I can tell you.

Each time they screwed up (ie: each time I needed to ask about or alter anything at all), they would give me a credit (that's not what I was after), but eventually the credit did not soothe their ongoing crap customer service, and I divorced them.

  • -2

Free Spotify and google music data streaming and not free service?

    • LOL why would they give you Google music and such for free?

  • Thanks TA =)
When I signed up, it was saying the cost would be $30 per month, but I assume this will be adjusted? I signed up through the Cashrewards link.

    • +1

      Promo page says…

Take 20% off. Discount will be applied on your bill.

  • Does the 20% off and the 1G bonus carry on after the end of the 12 month contract?

    • It should be for the life of the plan. At least, that's what I have on my account.

      • Yep, you're right. I just confirmed with sales.

  • It's a great deal for those who use their most of data for Spotify.

  • Where to enter the password?
    Edit -Found it

  • Music Bonus: Stream your music with no data charges on: Spotify, Google Play, iHeartRadio
Stream until 01/03/18 and up to 512kbps.

So not a guarantee for life of plan with the streaming audio.

    • Music Bonus: Well there is hope it may be extended (but granted - not guaranteed), but for the monthly price ($20.25) and my data needs - no probs if it is not extended:

"Data Free Music Streaming: Stream your music with no data charges on Spotify, iHeartRadio and Google PlayTM Music on select new Postpaid plans. Fair Use Policy applies. For use in Oz. Stream until 01/03/2018 #(unless extended)# and up to 512kbps."

  • +1

Thanks TA. Perfect for my needs. That cashrewards cashback for new customers makes it a no brainer @ $20.25 per month (with cashback).

  • Tempted.

  • I can't see anywhere where it shows the $50 for international calls. I maybe too sleepy.

This is the only thing I see:

"Included Value: can be used for calls & text to standard national and international numbers, as well as calls to 13 numbers & MMS to Oz numbers. Standard charges apply once included value is used up & for non-included call & messaging types. Our Fair Use Policy applies."

In that case, shouldn't the value be $30 and not $50?

      • +1

        cheers TA

      • that $50 can be spent on any country?

Or limited to a certain list only?

  • Which one is better for Sydney metro area?

Virgin vs Kogan vs Amaysim vs Jeenie vs others?

Coverage and speed are most important.

3GB per month would be plenty.

    Cheers

  • fyi .. kogan mobile 12 month plan works out to be about $17 atm (vs $20.25 for this one) if you don't mind not having international calls. Essentially you're paying about $38 for 12 months worth of spotify/google music & international minutes .

    • Do you know if Kogan stops you from using too much data aka going over your monthly limit.

I need a provider that caps you when you reach your quota or closer to it so I don't accidentally incur extra bills.

      • The kogan one i referred to is a prepaid upfront plan. Which means if you've used your data you just need to wait until it rolls over to the next month (-OR- you can buy a data add-on)

        https://help.koganmobile.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/206082168-…

        • Oh sweet.. I think I am leaning towards Kogan atm unless I somehow find a better deal than their roughly $17/month mobile calls and data plan

  • I got extra 2gb so total 8gb with the online chat.
Cannot complain especially with the cash back offer!

    • online chat said they cant do extra 2gb as it is already discounted. how did you manage to get 2gb?

      are you an existing customer?

      • +1

Must be a different rep. I said Optus is offering 17gb for $30.
They gave me 1gb but I pushed them to offer extra gb

      • +1

        I am a new customer.

        • spoke to 2 reps. no luck. :( he kept saying that he cant see the optus deal on the optus website. i sent him the link to the offer but he kept saying that he cant see it.

do you know if this an online only offer? is it possible to get this instore?

        • +1

          @PPrem:

          couldn't get 2gb extra either.

        • +1

          @PPrem:

I definitely mentioned what i have written. Probably the manager is aware of people asking for more data. This is the same virgin mobile link listed on this page. Not too sure about in store. I suggest try again tomorrow early morning.

        • @overule: thanks

Will give it another go. :)

        • @overule:

I just chat with the Virgin sales team, it seems that the original data include is only 5GB, You got 6GB when you apply the CYBER code, so I am not sure is it apply to the same case as overule
