Would it be better value to buy a console for UHD Blu-ray and other features as well such as gaming?

    • Apparently the usability factor is much better on a standalone unit. Also the Panny is a great upscaler for non 4k material. YMMV.

A bit technical heavy, but a standalone player is better for its job. But I doubt the average consumer would care.

      • There's a chance MS will release a firmware update to fix the finer display output issues on the XBX as they have already been addressing.

      • I am not sure, but after checking the video on 8:05 to compare the two, I don't think I will pick the Panny…

  • @chywala, I am not sure on Xbox one but ps4 pro may not play UHD movies it will be only upscale games to 4k.

I researched and found panasonic UB900 is good player among rest. oppo 203 and later is other player which are expensive too.

    • Ps4 pro is not a 4k bluray player. Xbox One S and X are. There was also a recent software update which made the player produce better blacks.

Has been around $498 for a while.

I got mine at HN after price match JB

I cannot see Panasonic DMPUB900 at HN site or JB. Is that for the same model? Was it on special deal?

  • cant u just buy a ps4 pro/xbox 1 x instead ?

    • xbox 1 s/x yep, ps4 don't use 4k drives in their consoles yet

  • Crazy price for a blueray player. Way too much just to play discs

Is this 3 times better than the $156 Samsung 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player UBD-M8500/XY on Bing Lee ebay store?

  • What a weird unit. Has Stereo and 7.1 analog outputs, A HDMI for sound only, Normal HDMI carrying video and audio, an ethernet port, and S/PDIF via coaxial and optical. Unless you have some esoteric setup then this seems excessive. I guess if you need Dolby vision this is ok.

    • Even this does not support dolby vision. It does have dolby atmos for sound. The only 4K Blu-ray players currently supporting Dolby Vision are the Oppo UDP-203, Oppo 205, and LG’s UP970.

        Oh wow, that's super disappointing.

    • HDMI for sound only, Normal HDMI carrying video.

Thats a good thing, if you have a device that isn't hdcp it allows you to get around it.

  • I am confused. I have PS4 but that does not uhd player. And not sure ps4 neo will have all features like xbox-1 s/x?

Comparing and reading review of some uhd player Samsung UBDM9500/8500 4K UHD Blu-Ray Player lacks 3D player and dolby vision

    Oppo again too expensive

LG latest UP970 is not good with limited apps on player and that too is around $349. But have dolby vision and 3d player

  • If u want to play uhd 4k but not much gaming, buy xobx one s instead of one x, can be had for less than $300 now.

If you game, one x is the way to go. Pay a little extra or use the amex hn offer to bring it below $600 and cheaper than this Blu-ray player.

I’m holding out for the ubt1 on a video Pro ebay promotion. Same player but with 2TB recorder.
