I missed out on this Black Friday deal, so i thought I’d have a look to see if I could find any codes for Cyber Monday and found a Terms and Conditions page for the code PCYBER.

There’s no start date in the Terms and Conditions, but I think It’s pretty obvious it will be tomorrow sometime.
Trying the code now brings up the following;

    • you forgot to read the post…..

      • Hasn't been confirmed that it is cancelled.

        • +1

Regardless of whether it is to be cancelled for business intention, or due to a business failure, it will be cancelled now as co-ordination between vendors has not happened.

Kogan has (around @10:30), begun sending promo mail to its optin lists promoting 'Cyber Monday' (using links that point to its webstore, not eBay).

The links targets would always be the Kogan store, but maybe the piggy-backing on Cyber Monday is a deliberate reaction to something they as a vendor have figured out or been told around what is happening (or not happening) over at eBay ;-)

          eBay checkout msg still reading:
"Looks like this code isn't ready yet. Please try again later".

        • Scotty is working to confirm - ^^^ see above!

        • +1

Cyber Monday was not created by eBay it is a digital equivalent to the Black Friday sales and is popular at many online retailers including Australian ones over the last few years. Kogans sale has nothing to do with eBay.

        • -1

@Agret: Indeed. But because this encumbant online retail champion chose to run this 'concept', the fact that they had the whole thing tied up by almost any marketing measure should be of no surprise to anyone.

The whole idea behind doing this (and then cancelling out) is probably just to hi-jack everyone else's ad spend and drive traffic back to fleabay.

  • im + this because the cancellation and people are not happy

    • I plused it since it saved me money

  • -1

How does this have 460+ positive votes and no negs? How did all the people that voted positive manage to get the coupon to work?

    • +5

positive votes were given before the code worked, as it usually happens on time with no problems

    • +5

When's the last time eBay pulled a code (with a terms and condition page) BEFORE it even went live?

      Exactly, never (to my knowledge).

A positive vote for a deal like this is a given, as there's usually no issue.

      • +7

Probably happens all the time. It wasn't an advertised deal, they just had an unpublished T&C page that someone managed to snoop.

        • None of their deals are ever advertised before they go live, bar the Black Friday one which was only mentioned on ACA the night before. They're all found via snooping.

        • +1

@BradH13: My point is there are probably a lot of deals that they consider, set up and then pull without telling anyone.

    • Because eBay just saved us all a fat stack of cash buying shit we don't need. Cheers eBay. 😀

    • Because people are gullible and will vote on if the deal looks good without actually waiting to see if it is any good.

  • +5

    The deal that never was..

  • +9

Just confirmed there are NO DEALS coming on eBay today - 100% confirmed - NO CYBER MONDAY DISCOUNTS!

Disappointing from Australia's largest online Marketplace :(

    • +6

2nd largest once Amazon hits full steam.

      • +3

Maybe. It might start with a fizz.
Amazon actually isn't that popular in other countries except for Japan, Germany and USA. All the other countries have been struggling.

        • +6

Amazon is definitely popular in the UK.

        • Amazon humiliated by taobao in China

        • @zs8574832: More like by JD rather than Taobao. Taobao=eBay, JD=Amazon

  • I have just received the confirmation from eBay that they have cancelled the promotion at the last minute, i.e. even before it started. Therefore this post has now been moved to the forum and all related deals unpublished.

    • +13

      They decided 20% instead

      • +2

        lol

    • +1

      :(

    • +4

"This free advertisement tactic worked!", said eBay CEO to eBay marketing department.

    • did they give a reason?

      • Not really. However I know those site-wide discount is quite costly as they are not really seller-funded. They had a good run last Friday so they probably think it's enough.

        • +21

It's cancelled but probably they are looking to postpone this until Amazon Australia launch.

        • +8

yeah heaps costly when they charge 13% between paypal and ebay fees!

        • @banzini: eBay and PayPal are separate, independent companies. eBay is basically giving up nearly all their profit from final value fees which is no doubt the biggest earner for them.

        • +4

          @eug:

          Haha good one!

You do know they used to be one company from 2002 to 2015? EBay decided to split off PayPal but it's presumably still owned by the same people.

Why do you think there is such tight PayPal integration into eBay, with forced acceptance of PayPal on Ebay sellers?

        • -1

          @synergy:

You do know they used to be one company from 2002 to 2015?

          Yes.

EBay decided to split off PayPal but it's presumably still owned by the same people.

          Are they or aren't they?

Why do you think there is such tight PayPal integration into eBay,

Because they used to be one company from 2002 to 2015.
They also have a five-year agreement which ends in 2020.

with forced acceptance of PayPal on Ebay sellers?

          Really?

        • -1
        • @kakubin:

          "…or other"

        • -1

          @zeggie:
Other is credit card payments handled by them

        • @kakubin:

No. Bank deposit is valid and accepted.

        • -1

          @zeggie:
Please do research before making claims

        • -1

          @kakubin:
synergy claimed that eBay makes money from PayPal fees. You seem to agree with that. Is there any research that establishes that?

Other is credit card payments handled by them

They accept payments via a merchant account, i.e. your bank. I guess you missed that while doing your research?

        • @eug:
There are 3 options for merchant accounts, the first one in the list is owned by PayPal and the other 2 owned by visa and they're all more expensive than paypal. Thanks for the chat.

        • @kakubin: sidenote. I'm searching for a motherboard like this. Are you looking to list this or was this a screenshot you grabbed elsewhere?

        • @steff:
          Already sold sorry

        • @kakubin:

There are 3 options for merchant accounts, the first one in the list is owned by PayPal and the other 2 owned by visa

So sellers are not forced to use PayPal then. "Please do research before making claims"

and they're all more expensive than paypal.

From your research, what rates have you found?

  • I guess i just gotta keep refreshing until the Tony Robbins and Barefoot investor book disappears..

  • +7

Oh well … least the 5% still works so not too bad but poor ozbargaining …P5OZZIE

    • this is still working

  • +3

"Can't I just buy 2 items at 5% off and that is equivalent to 2 x 5% = 10% off?", asked one of my Math-challenged friends.
"Please go ahead if that makes you happy", I answered.

    • +8

Tell them to buy 20 items, and then they get them free.

      • +2

Similarly I have had people say that something that is a tax deduction is free.

I had a Greenpeace fundraiser do this. “You get your money back from the gov’t.” Not sure if they were just being deceptive or just ignorant. Though the conversation we had suggested ignorant.

        • The 20,000 SBE instant asset write off is a doozy for this.

  • +3

    Great…Money saved $$$

  • My eBay cart exploded after I put 1000+ items in the cart :(
Now I have to remove all the items from the cart :(

    • +8

Mine has a wobbly wheel and pulls to the left.

      • -1

Does eBay offer free replacement of the wheel? Or even better, free replacement of the whole cart?
I can't see that in their 1000-page terms and conditions.

  • +4

I hope nobody bought anything over the weekend expecting to use to use the discount today.

  • Well crap…. I have something I want to buy and I'm kinda stalled because I don't know if they're going to reinstate this voucher, or put a new one up sometime this week with the looming ~Amazon~ opening. Argh!

  • +1

    Wtf

    • +2

eBay pulled out 10% discount code at the last minutes, WTF (Wasn't That Funny)?

    • +31

      you called ?

  • +7

lol I was actually gonna cave and buy something from ebay today because of this sale.

Guess ebay is telling me to keep waiting for amazon

    • +5

Not sure if Amazon will be any cheaper but the customer service (returns etc) is 10/10 whereas eBay will just happily leave you bleeding in the dirt by the side of the road.

      • +6

Customer service for US Amazon is 10/10 but the US has a very different consumer law regarding returns and customer service. You can return practically anything, to anywhere, for almost any reason. It's not an Amazon thing, it's a US thing. My fiance is American, and when I lived there with him, he laughed at me because I had a total phobia about returns. Once I bought some shoes, pulled the tags off and wore them out for an hour and they started really hurting me. I was sad I had to give them away or resell them, as they were really uncomfy. I told my fiance about it. He told me to return them, and I didn't want to because 'they won't let me, I wore them!' and he thought I was nuts. He is used to just returning everything for any reason. Almost all Americans are. He dragged me back to the store, and while I sat there, scared I'd be challenged on the return, the guy was like 'no problem.' And gave me my money back immediately. It was surreal for me. Their CS is also stellar because in the US, customers are ridiculously augmentative and entitled. A lot of businesses reward bad behavior by bending over backwards at any complaint, and I feel the culture isn't the same in Australia.

That said, Americans absolutely take advantage of the leniency, there.

Basically, what I'm saying, is I'm not sure if Amazon Returns and CS will be as good and easy going as the US, or if they are going to adopt Australian type returns and practices. I hope its like the US, but a lot of companies that have come through have adopted AU returns because they are more protected, etc.

… Sorry for the rant, lol. And yes, ebay does leave you bleeding in the dirt by the side of the road.

  • +3

Looks like the code got ozbargained in record time ;)

I didnt have anything to buy so Im not fussed. They probably anticipated Amazon launching this weekend and since it didnt, probably didnt feel the need to.

This Amazon Australia launch reminds me of Duke Nukem 2000, this biggest load of vapourware and when it did finally drop, it (profanity) sucked. :)

  • i bought a tv for $1300 after seeing the Cyber Monday code post last night. Luckily there is still a valid 5% code…

  • Cancelled because Amazon has been delayed…

    • +10

Well technically Amazons arrival has never been delayed. Believing fake news just created this gigantic bubble which they did not deliver (e.g. not launching last Friday or today). They do have their date when they launch, they just don´t tell the media.

      • -1

Speculation is not the same as fake news.

  • +2

    Hi all,

don't be down, there's hope! Just call eBay, and then mention the 10% cancellation issue, in hope they will give you another voucher to use for 1 month (for me). I got a $50 for use until 27/12. But I bought something last night and phew managed to use the voucher and pick up in 1 hour time! Lucky to have the ebayer office nearby my place.

    • Sadly didn't work for me. He had no record of the expired code and asked me to try PANTONE to no avail. Guess I got unlucky!

    • Didn't work for me as well. Customer service representative said "they don't entertain what is mentioned on any third party site."

      • That's actually a pretty blunt, rough around the edges way to say it to you. I'd rather them play dumb than say something like that to me, I think.

        • +1

Yeah. Their response turned me off a little bit. Amazon, please launch already.

        • @ranmalynx:

Guys, sorry to hear your experiences. But at least, there's a try and hope!

  • +2

    So much for Cyber Monday…

  • Missed the xbox one x deal with 2 games + the 10% off Black Friday. Comes to $624 delivered with the 5% off. Do I pull the trigger?

    • -3

      YOLO

    • Well, 5% is better than nothing. However waiting will probably result in another offer coming up sooner or later. The question is just when. Only in very rare circumstances certain offers do never appear again, it happens but usually not for mayor electronical deals.

    • I'm in the same boat. Can't decide to settle for 5% off or wait for Christmas…

They say good things come to those who wait, but I waited too long and missed the Friday deal so…

      • I'm going to take the plunge. Won't play Evil Within 2 so I'll get some money back and also have an Xbox One S to trade. I reckon the deals will be very similar come Xmas just with different games. Spewing I missed it on Friday though

        • +1

Aaaand they took the deal down as I was on the phone to customer service. Haven't bought a console through Ebay before so I was checking if all the warranty stuff was the same….got off the phone at 4:40 and the deal was off the ebay shop. Guess it wasn't meant to be

        • +1

@VLine90: Yeah, I just noticed it's now gone too… why would they remove it? They've still got the bundle on the eb site so it's not like they've got no stock. There were like 66 available last I checked. Don't think I can settle for no discount now that I missed both 10% and 5%. Will probably wait for the Christmas bundles. Maybe they'll throw in another game.

  • wanted the PS VR eb deal, oh well will wait for amazon now i guess

  • I just got off the chat helpline.

Whoever was the OP for the PANTONE code should re-open it… or Mods maybe do it.

    "Tammy
    13:43 PM
We have active code which is PANTONE.Please check the Terms and conditions before using it : https://pages2.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/pantone"

    • +3

It's not active. "This code has expired"

      • Damn liars! I'm getting back on the chat…

  • +6

And also, looks like ozB has a reputation now :)

    Tammy
    13:39 PM
Yes, we do. However that code is not supported by eBay. That code was from OZBARGAIN that leaks eBay promotions that expired or no longer active.

    • +4

@kickling; So its official lingo in eBayland; ozB are considered 'leakers', not customers, eh?

Maybe the writing is on the wall, entire communities will be referred to the G8's webstazi confederati (5 eyes). I can see it now:

"Consumers who actively seek to share or act on information that Approved Corporations consider to be Confidential in Confidence ('CiC')*, will be systematically targeted and elluminated, etc. etc."

      • whether the declaration of this information as being of 'CiC' status be
      • before or after the fact, and
      • regardless of whether it (or any part of if) was available in the public domain prior to the time or date of any relevant declaration/s

      A-haraaagh!

      • +6

Yeah sounds like it … however I wouldn't call it leaking if they decide to make a page available on the internet (publicly findable and not secured) with the applicable coupon code.

We're all part of the Rebel Alliance now…

    • +4

Haha I love it when other sites mention ozbargain, makes me feel like I'm part of an elite crew lol

  • So are we getting any codes today or not every retailer is cashing in on this for one last day yet one of the biggest out there offer s***.
I have something i added to basket went on here to see if up and running and i find its canceled, if i have not already used my 5% code i could use that.
But i be bit annoyed if i do use 5% off and the spring the 10% later today.
Item im after is buy it now so not sure what to do.

  • +19

Someone forgot to tell sellers to raise prices. So they cancelled it.

    • I think they are Ok - Dell is adjusting prices down at this moment.

  • +5

Nope, eBay chat will not have a bar.

Even though my rep told me PANTONE was still working, no consolation prizes for the mistake.

And I guess they don't have to. They make enough money, we're just ants.

  • +7

P5OZZIE still working, but only 5% off
i guess no one gives a shit on 5%

    • +2

I do… when I bought a $600 2nd hand monitor yesterday as "buy it now" instead of bidding on it at $350 with 0 bids thinking it was going to cost me $540 today (-10%) … so yeah I appreciate you mentioning that … cause $30 dollars I can get back is better than nothing!!!
