Good deal but its vertical resolution is 1080p, not a lot of games support super ultrawide, no true HDR, uses PWM backlight I think. Only thing it would be good for is multitasking and simulators.

not a lot of games support super ultrawide

Sure, if by not a lot you mean almost everything.

    • I haven't seen a simulator in a long time. I thought they died and were buried next to point and click adventure games.

wow I would rather the 55" Lg OLED at $2.2k over this horribly priced gaming monitor.

Edit at $1600 its better priced actually :)

What is reason for buying this vs just getting a big 4K or 1080p TV etc?

      • interesting link
It said it is only 1080p vertically..

It is probably more better to get a 4k TV?
at least you can use it for pc or console gaming

Gamers seem to care about nothing in life except input lag, which is extremely low for this monitor and reasonably high for TVs.

This monitor goes to 144hz while a 4K TV will usually cap at 60hz. This has Freesync 2 which I assume helps gaming with AMD graphics cards.

The dimensions of this are wide and thin and it seems to have an aplication to help you have lots of windows open at once. If you use a TV as a monitor everything has to go on the one screen, not so good for multi tasking.

    • Are you going to sit less than 1m away from your telly?

      • At 49 inch, would you want to sit 1m from your monitor?

Wouldn't this big of a screen be too overwhelming at this distance?

        • Many people use two or three monitors side by side and at an arms length in front of them. This would be the same but without the gaps. So, no I donlt think it'd be overwhelming at all.

    • why would you want a 1080p Tv..its ancient resolution.

    Lol qled

wow 49"! you'd need a second pair of eyes see everything on it.lol

  • 2k$ for a 1080p

To add to the issues above, this uses freesync so if you're with the green team you're better off getting one with Gsync.

    • yeah Samsung really needs to make gsync monitors.

  • Its actually equivalent to 2x 27 inch 1080p monitors side by side so not bad but not the best.

    • It's just half the resolution of 2160p. Take a 4K monitor, get a chainsaw and cut it in half horizontally and you get two of these.

These are great for medieval combat games.
It reproduces the feel of peering through the wide eye-slit in a helmet.

    • This monitor was made for watching jousting side-on.

  • What size desk would be ideal for a beast like this?

  • 49" monitor, wow.

  • I didn't even know this existed! I'm spewing I bought the Philips 43" now! Too small!

    • Those are very poor comparisons. 99% of people would think $1599 is too much for a monitor even if it came with a return ticket to Mars.

This is a niche and bleeding edge product. IF you are one of the very small number of people interested in this niche, it's a great deal.

      • Very poor, or just cheaper alternatives? Yes this Samsung is premium, doesn't make alternatives very poor choices. I listed Specs so people don't have to click to see they are inferior.

The Samsung also does have a problem of only being 1080 on the vertical, pretty poor outside gaming for the price. You'd ideally want a second monitor for anything outside gaming. I'd personally prefer the resolution of the LG above.

Also $1599 is a price only available to AMEX card owners.

I'm personally waiting on 3440 x 1440 IPS FreeSync 100Hz screen to be a bargain price.

        • Yes, you are in the vast majority of people as I said. 99% of people are not going to pay $1599 for a monitor of any type. This monitor will lose 'value for money' comparisons on pretty much every other monitor you feel like comparing it to so you could keep doing that all day if you feel like it.

If everything was only about value for money then everyone would only buy $99 monitors.

IF you are in the tiny percentage of people who want a Freesync 2 monitor with these unusual specs then there is nothing else available. Those people will think this deal is awesome.
