Fantastic, I'm fresh out of Caltex StarCash Groupons and BP Gift Cards w/ Amex cashback. Will be filling up at 7-11 soon.

    • Going by the "where to redeem" section, I can only see the convenience shops located around sydney cbd

      • pretty silly promotion if it only appplies to convenience 7-11 stores in the cbd area.

        • +1

Not if you work across the road from one and a two minute walk to another.

        • This should be valid for all stores, but it doesn't matter anyway; just buy a gift card, load it up in the app and pay via app when filling up fuel.

Edit: Or just use the GC directly and skip the app all together.

        • @KayDat: thanks I called up amex and using the iphone app, it showed a fuel location, used it to buy fuel and worked on. amex knows the limitation when you access the link from the desktop computer.

      • +3

Where to redeem gives you the x closest stores to the location your browser gives the page.

        • mine shows 3 stores near me

  • +4

    First Choice Liquor online
Can't see any gift cards online :(

    • Yeah

    • What if you order online to click and collect (if offer allows), then rockup to the store and ask to exchange for a Coles myer gift card. If they say no ask for full refund, or keep it and go home and drink all of that booze

      • Let us know if this has worked for anyone.

  • +4

Opal recharges again! And free fruit!

  • 7 eleven offer is great timing for the hype up fuel price late!

    • -7

only valid at ten CBD Stores, which have no fuel.

      • Should work on all 7Eleven, I can see many around my location in APP

        • what app are you using?

        • @Sydgun: maybe they are in Melbourne (mine also showing fuel stores)

        • +1

@Sydgun: if you open amex app on the smartphone on the promotion, it recommends the nearby location for 7-eleven store. The term and condition is very confusing because on my pc, it only shows 10 convenience 7-1 stores in sydney cbd.

        • Ahh that is a great tip, some of the AMEX deals I don't signup for because it lists all these Sydney locations where I am in Brisbane. My app showed local ones in Bris.

          Thanks!

        • +1

          @knobbs:

I'm confused. When I click on the link I only get the syd cbd ones. How can I confirm if its valid in melb?

        • +1

@hellohello123: allow the browser use your location, and it will show the shops close to you.

        • @ce5himm:
You sir are a legend. Going to fuel Al my family's cars up.

First time I've been to a 7 11 in years

        • +1

          @hellohello123:
I can see my parents now:
          Fills ups $15, pays.
Goes back fills another $15 using a different card and pays.
Goes back and fills a further $15 with a supplementary card and pays.

        • -1

          @CSC:

Love all the downvotes I got above, when I'm just going on the information given above.

it is still only listing only the ten Sydney CBD Stores on the link given above -

          https://www.americanexpress.com/au/network/shopping/doe-offe…

        • @simba-au:

that's all I said and got downvoted to hell lol

      • i see the same thing when I register my card using manual link and click on where to redeem location.

Any idea if there are any gift cards or opal recharge from Newslink in Sydney Central station?

    • Newslink's POS system doesn't let them split payment, so if they had them you'd need to buy one at a time.

    • Opal recharge is on the list but dunno if you can go to three Newslinks at Central Station and get three credits.

Or even a Newslink at Central and the Newslink at Martin Place (Manly Wharf is too far unless you're from the area)

      • +3

It doesn’t say that you can only use once per location. Unless I missed something in the t&c, please let me know

        • Can anyone confirm if they spent 3 times at the same location, and got 3 credits? Thanks!

        • +5

@ixXavra: I did try on the weekend at central station. Got all 3 emails.

        • @67Gateway: Nice, thanks! Makes it so much easier than shop small.

        • @67Gateway:

Did you recharge Opal card for $20 x 3 times at the same Newslink store?

        • @virhlpool: yes I did

      • Does anyone know where the Newslink at Martin Place is? I could only find a Relay…

        • +1

          Same thing. Relay counts.

      • +3

I topped up Opal using Amex at the Martin place location earlier today. Amex email came almost instantly. Store is called "Relay" now and not Newslink. No surcharge for using amex too

        • +1

did you do all 3 purchases at martin place?

        • @tveye: Did just the one. will be doing more this coming week. Might also go to Central station

        • +1

@ozeone: did they have paypass or you needed to enter the pin?
          Is it inside MLC?

        • +1

@strawberrybug: Its not in Mlc. It past the mcdonalds, up the escalator and towards Martin place train station and next to a dry cleaners shop on the right hand side.Tap to pay, no pin required

        • @ozeone: thank you

    • Went to Newslink at Central Station yesterday. The staff said they don't do Opal recharge. Is that correct? Do they only sale Opal starter kit?

      • There are 4 Newslinks at Central but only 3 have an Opal machine. Which one did you go to?

        • Downstairs one. Cannot find upstairs one. Which platform they are on?

        • +1

@yht: The downstairs one beyond the gates does not have Opal machine. The upstairs one and the two that can be accessed without going through the Opal gates all do Opal recharge.

  • Does 7-11 allow payment split?

    • +2

Just be friendly and go when they're not busy. They always let me.

Amex has gone downhill compared to last year:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279431

I think I’ll be cancelling my platinum edge once the silly season is over.

    • +5

I was looking forward to a repeat of last year.

      • Looking less likely now that December has rolled about.

    • +3

That's why I am on Essential.

    • Agree..But I am still hopeful that they would come out with more offers next week!

  • 7/11 offer is available outside cbd area. Goes on your location guessing you are all in cbd at work? Mine comes up for Liverpool area and fuel. Was looking forward to Westfield cards even planned my day to be there at 9am to redeem.

Oh well other offers have been great the last month

    • If you don't let the browser or mobile browser 'allow location', then it'll default to the CBD

  • I forget, do 7/11 Vic accept Amex for Myki topups?

    • +3

Yes, I always pay with AMEX to get triple points. Now, will get a cool free $5 thanks to this offer.

      • Triple points? Is 7/11 considered a supermarket by the platinum edge?

        • Probably a petrol station, more like

        • @kerfuffle: yup, there's no card with 3 pt/$ at Petrol stations though…

        • @MathNerd: Yeah there is because I have one. David Jones American Express card (and the David Jones Platinum American Express card). Get three points per dollar at supermarkets and petrol stations so I fill up at the BP that has no surcharge for AMEX so I can also collect Velocity points.

        • @kerfuffle: oh, I knew about 3pts/$ at supermarkets but I thought it was only 2 at Petrol stations. Unless things have changed since I last checked…

        • @MathNerd: Depends on your card, I suppose. DJs cards have always been three points per dollar for petrol stations.

        • +1

@kerfuffle: Wow that's not bad. My world has been shattered! Haha

But it's not 3 Ascent pts/$ though is it? It's DJ points, which transfer to FF schemes at 2.25 FF / 3 pts?

        • @MathNerd: DJs cards use the Membership Rewards program or the QFF program depending on which you pick. Not sure what the earn rate is if you go on the QFF program. I use the Membership Rewards program and sometimes transfer to Velocity which is 2 MR Points to 1 Velocity point.

        • @kerfuffle: Ah, thanks for that explanation. So you're basically getting 1.5 FF pts/$ at supermarkets and petrol stations.

        • @MathNerd: No idea, sorry. I'm not that familiar with the QFF program. All I know is that the earn rate is different.

        • @kerfuffle: Yup me too, not that into the QFF program, I'm more interested in KF (so Ascent points are the ones that I chase) :)

      • Yeah how are you getting triple points? Unless it's through local champion

    • +2

They sure do… Atleast the ones in the CBD…

  • Any idea about "Travel Essentials Offer" for Opal in SYDNEY even at airport? I have 4 cards and could up to 12 times…

    • Would want to know the answer to this as well.

    • +1

Unless you've got a lot of cards the extra train fare or parking cost at Sydney airport mean you'd only do this if you were going to be at the airport anyway.

  • +1

    top up Myki at Newslink?

    • I'm curious too. There's a Newslink at Flinders Street station. Has anyone tried loading a Myki?

      • Only newslink at the airport n flinders st are on amex link. Will try flinders next week

        • Thanks, let us know how it goes. I'm not close to Flinders.

        • @88mph:

Yep, look forward to hearing, I'm planning to head there when I get a chance.

        • +2

Can confirm flinders station relay hub is the place. Topups x 3.

        • @ChaseTheSun: is this one next to the pharmacy? I've walked past it a few times and it doesn't say news link so I've been uncertain.

        • @bluedufflecoat: it's called Hub convenience next to gate near the bridge exit on st Kilda rd

        • @ChaseTheSun: Thanks.

    • +1

Unable to locate Newslink at Flinders St station… maybe changed name already? I could see store but it’s not called news link

      • Did you try to top up myki on that store?

      • I did a search. This came up:
        Newslink Pty Ltd
        Newsagents
Shop 13 Flinders St Station, Melbourne, VIC 3000
        ph: (03) 9621 1237

        • +1

Hub Convenience @ Flinders St Station is Newslink. I used 2 cards to Top up $120 Myki today and asked them split payments to $20 x 6. got confirmation from Amex straight away for all the transactions.

        • @coolbuddy2k7: wow, they didn't mind you using that many splits? Well done :)

        • +2

@MathNerd: Not at all. The guy there was really helpful.

        • +2

          @coolbuddy2k7:

Sure was! Just have to be kind and thank him afterwards

        • @coolbuddy2k7: that's awesome. I love hearing these things :)

        • only topup $20 each time, as i dont want to trouble the guy.. since im going to Flinders most of the time :-)

        • @annielee: Yup agree. you can ask for a split payment but be patient. Be nice to the guy and dont block the queue behind if there is one.

        • @MathNerd: Everytime when I need to split payments I ask beforehand. For example: I want to buy X amount of product's, but is it ok if pay by two cards? Almost everyone agrees to it. Only problem comes when they get your card and say we don't accept Amex (while they're advertised on shop small offer). Also I worked in retail before, so by the end of the day they're still getting full money whether it's one transection or multiple. It's only Amex who's reimbursing us and making it a great deal.

        • @coolbuddy2k7: oh, you can do multiple transactions at one retailer???
