Can confirm to all interested that I got the Amex notification and email after buying a $20 myki top-up at the Flinders Station store.

      • can you share where is Newslink at Flinders ? Inside or Outside ? near Relay Hub ?

        • +2

Exactly Relay Hub. I tried inside. Got email instantly.

        • @msyc: thanks ! i suspected its relay hub but didnt topup :-) will do that today after work..

        • Yep its inside Relay Hub.

      • same as u said.

  • +1

For the newslink offer, can I spend at the same place for 3 times and still got three credits?

    • +1

It doesn’t say “once per participating location”, so I assume it is possible.

      • I dont think so…coz base on the history of this kind of promotion, I think there only once per POS (shop) ,anyway…I am just guessing as well

        • But what if you went to three different Newslink outlets? I think there's like four of them in Central Station alone

        • +1

          nope. 3x same place

    • -2

"Offer is limited to ONE CREDIT per registered Card. Only spend on the Card number you register counts towards the Offer."

    • +2

just did that same newslink, same card.. and got the email notification. (Melb)

  • Can I top up my opal using the 7-11 offer and travel essentials offer at newslink?

    • +1

      Why not

      • Thanks. And do they have any surcharges for using amex? I had noticed a wiki page for amex small shop opal recharge surcharges

        • +4

Newslink has a surcharge for visa/MC, but not for amex. Really strange.

        • @JIMB0: First time hearing that. So strange!

        • @JIMB0: There are retailers who are on a special rate plan with Amex so pay less for it compared to Visa and MasterCard.

    • -1

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to ask that question. Perhaps the answer this time will be different to the discussion above?

  • can I use the 7-11 offer for my petrol fee?

    • +3

Sure you can! 11 Hours a day, 7 days a week!

      • +1

        7am to 11pm is 16 hours mate.

        • +4

          Whoosh

    • Just did mines, got an email straightaway

  • Got excited to see Smiggle as my kids love that overpriced crap, looking closer it’s only for Cairns Airport location:

    locations

    • From the other comments, I think it's meant to pick closest points of sale in your vicinity. Having said it is not that accurate as it picked places which were 30 kms away when I checked earlier (for the 7-11 promo) and there are plenty closer to where I live.

      • The Smiggle offer is for airport and major train station locations only hence Travel Essentials. Guess the only Smiggle in Australia at an airport is at Cairns Airport.

  • Our system is not responding at the moment …anyone getting this ?

    • Thanks op
      Worked for me

  • Wonder if "instore only " will exclude petrol outside store

    • +3

Aren't you paying for petrol in store?

      • lol.. hope it works

        • confirmed works for petrol.

  • +3

another bonus for the first choice liquor deal, their website says get 2000 fly buy points ($10 worth) with click & collect orders over $50, 3 days only. so you get $30 discount essentially.
I am thinking get 2 slabs of corona for $86 plus some bottle/s of wine to make the $100, may be the award wining (and cheap $6/btl) St Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Would it work for a Myki top up at 7-11?

    • +5

confirmed, just topped up $20, confirmation email arrived instantly.

      • Thanks. Would go and redeem my offer very soon.

      • Why'd you topup $20 though? They don't allow a $15 topup?

        • +1

I topped up $15. They didn't refuse me. 7-11 Mel Eureka Skydeck.

  • +4

Damn first choice is ozbargained :(

    • +1

Yes, all the grogs have taken it :(

      • +1 for your pun

  • No more FCL

  • +2

    First Choice is gone.

    • +1

      10,000 alcoholics

  • FCL is gone? so the 40,000 quota has been reached in a matter of hours?????

    • +1

      10K cap it was.

    • 40,000 is for 7/11.

  • Cripes, 1st Choice offer is capped already. :(

  • +1

    Damn, First Choice went fast.
But it was 10,000 cards, and as we all know, once an AmEx offer is posted on OzB, within the first hour you've got ~5,000 cards registered and then slowly the rest trickle in…

  • +6

Here's some maths (for the FC deal):

    • Assuming the average OzB'er has 10 cards each (a mixture of primary and supplementaries).
Assumptions: There are some OzB'ers with 30 or so cards (give or take a few), and some OzB'ers with only 2 or 3 cards. Average out all the card numbers per member and 10 is reasonable.

    • This means that there are only 10,000/10 = 1,000 OzB'ers that will get this deal.

    • Assume that each OzB'er takes ~5 minutes (remember, we're all professionals) to bash in all their card details to enrol in the offer.

    • So the 1,000 OzB'ers that get this deal will take 200 minutes to get OzBargained, which is 3 hours 20 minutes.

By the time AmEx sends out an EDM to all Card Members that this offer exists, it's already been exhausted.

    • +1

This is a disturbing trend I noticed as well.
I missed out on a few offers cos it was capped by the time I visit ozbargain

      • +2

Yeah, especially with offers that can result in GCs being purchased etc, but the FC offer is online only which doesn't have GCs. Maybe a lot of people enrolled in it thinking they could get Coles Myer GCs in store like last year's Statement Offer, which is sad because that spot could be saved for someone else who actually wants to buy grog at FC.
I must say though, I wonder why it was only online?

        • +1

First choice must have noticed a sudden influx of $150 plus GCs bought instore during that time.

        • @mmd: My local FC sure did. I walked in buying $600 worth of gift cards in one go.

The young lady who served me must be thinking, why couldn't I just head to my local Coles

      • If you're not refreshing OzBargain every minute, then you're doing it wrong.

        • +1

I would if I could :). Sometimes it's impossible being at work :(

        • @mmd: Resign!! OZb comes first! hehe!

    • +5

I only have one AMEX card.

Also for a MathNerd, your calculations are wrong. ;) 200 minutes is 3 hours and 20 minutes.

I subscribe to the AMEX Statement Credit offers to ensure I don't miss out on deals.

      • +1

Haha, thanks for that pickup! Bad typo!

      • +2

I subscribe too, but still it isn't fast enough haha! Professionals strike.

      • +2

Did the notification wake you up at 4am?

        • I put my phone on silent when I sleep but I did catch your post at 3:30 a.m. when I woke up in the middle of my sleep and checked my e-mail :D

        • Do you even sleep? Or do ninjas not need to sleep?

      • +2

You have one Amex? That is unheard of in this day and age.

        • +1

Don't really need another one. Except for the Statement Credits haha

        • @kerfuffle:

Hence why you need multiple for the purpose of addition statement credits.

        • +1

@nightelves: I just signed up for a Velocity Escape this afternoon and got approved 😂

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

          Congrats! You go girl!

    • Mate, you sure have too much time in your hands. You should be OzBargaining more 😂

  • Don't forget if you're going to Sydney airport to use the Travel Essentials offer, take advantage of this parking deal

  • Is there gift card available for purchase in 7-Eleven?

  • of course $15 will do I think. $20 was just my hobbit

  • Sydney only for 7-11??

    • you may disabled location rights for the browser or amex app you using

  • I feel left out with all these Amex deals. How do I get a free one that will qualify for all these deals that keep poping up?

    • +2

Apply for one of the several no annual fee cards?

    • +1

I got an essential card, worth the annual fee of 0 dollars :)

      • The Qantas discovery is also $0 if you prefer collecting QFF points.

  • Don't bother getting their gift cards if you're looking to spend exactly $15. I tried today, the values available at the POS were $10 and $25. Now I was in a rush at the time and didn't have time to go through any other "manual" gift card values but I told the attendant that I wanted $15 which didn't happen.

Just a few moments ago I filled up using two cards. Petrol was $1.38/L at the pump…

    15/1.38 = 10.86L
    So 30/1.38 = 21.74L (for two $15 transactions)

    But I got $5 off each $15 transaction…
    So 20/21.74L = $0.92/L

Another way of thinking about this would be that if you're looking to spend exactly $15 for fuel, you'd be paying exactly two-thirds of the pump price.

    So, 1.38 x 0.66 = $0.92/L

  • Topped up $20 on my Opal card at 7-Eleven Edmondson Park tonight and got the qualifying e-mail 👍

Now to tackle Newslink and Relay when I'm at work next week!

  • Sydney Central has 3 Newslinks anyone have any idea which one is relevant to this offer? Thanks.

    • +1

Newslink Central Station is listed 4 times under "WHERE TO REDEEM"

      https://www.americanexpress.com/au/network/shopping/doe-offe…

      • I only found one at the country trains concourse. Where are the others?

        • 3 on opal retailer list
          - Devonshire Street
          - Country Terminal
          - Country Platform

        • +1

Yep, did 2 today but not Devonshire. Don't bother trying at the downstairs suburban one inside the gates they don't do topups
