Smart debt is a bargain… pay for everything on CC gaining points, frequently take up new cards for bonuses, put money aside to pay full balance every month in offset account. Remember to pay full balance before due date. Profit!!!

It's only debt if you don't control your spending.
If you can't control your spending, you shouldn't get a credit card, simple as that.

Can someone pay my credit card debt of $1850? I'll paint your picture and frame it.

I rather keep that money in my bank account.

  • Hmmm. Im a bit confused as to whether the bonus points are qantas points or amplify points. It doesnt seem very clear. Just says "bonus points"
    I hope it Qantas points

    • +1

Ok. It is Qantas points. Just checked the QP website.

    • +1

There is 2 different cards - make sure you apply for the correct one if you want Qantas points, but note Qantas earn rate is a lot worse

  • $900 worth of points for $279, not too bad

    • -2

Indeed it is. Just 60,000 points on qantas topup page costs $1425!

    • How is it 900? I checked gift cards and seems like it's 400.

        • Wow,kind of have to wonder how much he's able to sell them for.

        • @flux:
Doesn’t sell them as such, uses then for flights. Just used him to sell 60,000, very happy

  • You get a choice of amplify rewards or amplify qantas.

  • Any experience with this?
September I applied for the ANZ black for 100k Qantas promo buy got rejected! Applied for Amex platinum and approved straight away.
Don't get it. Provided all the documents too

    • +1

Amex seems to be the most generous company around in terms of getting approved etc…which is a good thing as you get a lot more perks (just keep in mind of the higher fees + less places take them)

  • Ok, so you can choose either the Qantas Amplify Signature card with 90k Qantas points, or the Rewards Amplify Signature card which converts 90k Amplify points to 45k Velocity points.

Does anyone know if the two Priority Pass visits (the Rewards card) are issued on paper or somehow linked electronically to the card? (I'd consider churning the card for the points and the passes… but don't want to hold onto the card for a long time in order to get use of Priority Pass for travel late next year.)

  • I miss first year fee free deals (and can't go ANZ again yet still)

    • I recently went with Virgin money's 60k points. $129 travel credit for $65. Closest I could find to no annual fee. 15k more virgin points than this deal. But no lounge pass. But everyone has their priority passes from last years Stgeorge / Citi Signature deals.

  • Can you open this in victoria or do you have to go to bank of melbourne?

  • +2

For those interested, around the same requirements as the ANZ black:
    75k minimum income
    15k minimum credit

More Qantas points but no status credits :-)

Also you can get exactly the same deal through BankSA and Bank of melbourne

    • Do you know if you have done the amplify from St George if you are still eligible for the BankSa and Bank of Melbourne deals? Or are these all linked under the 'amplify' scheme much the same as you can only get points from one AMEX card?

      Thanks,
      gelik

All linked mate, explained in the T & C

        • Thank you sir!

  • Just wondering what the usualy strategy is for qantas reward point cards. I have an amex already so earning ascent points.

Recently applied and got the anz ff black card. Met the minimum spend so got 75000 qantas to come.

What card and bank do most people then get? Seems the next cards seem to be westpac altitude black ($250) for 80k points or st george 90k points for 279 per this deal. I also noticed nab qantas signature card is $395. I think there was a cba one for 90k or 100k points but cant find it online now. Which one should i go for my next card? Mainly unsure of what qantas points aree worth. Like is the $395 nab you pay $150 more than the westpac. But is the 20 000 points worth $150?

Just wondering how to put a dollar value to points. Like whats their value if my aim is to save 200k points for example. Thinking that'd get me business return to europe for honeymoon in the future.

    • Also have a mortgage so keen to play cards right that have lower min credit to apply for and lower income assessment criteria?? Or are there any banks in general that have easier criteria in applying for cards

      • not an easy question to answer, but the wiki here helps.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/credit_card_guide

        • Yeah alot of moving parts hmmm…

I think ill go with the st george amplify signature. Its 90k points for 279. I figured there may be a chance the nab 100k qantas rewards signature card will go down from 395 pa on a promo?

The westpac altitude black used to be 80k bonus plus 20k bonus a few months back. Its 250 bucks so for $29 more the st george gets 10k more bonus qantas points. On the plus side the westpac deal may come back so waiting for 100k bonus points may be possible.

  • Just applied for the card online. Emailed my 2 payslips. Has anyone else dealt with st george before? Wondering the chances of them processing and mailing my card out to me bedore 14 dec. Anz was quick. 30 oct .Monday application. Card at my postbox by fri 3rd nov.

Did go into branch though so i was all verified already. When i rang st george due to application difficulties the card advisers were pretty washy. Ended on the advice that if i submitted today yeah that'd be another day earlier. Great. But no idea of turnaround time and all. Did anyone get their card within a week or so? From applying online??

  • How/Where do you redeem the 90K Qantas points ? On Qantas website ? But prices are already inflated on Airlines websites. For example, with this deal, I am getting 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) economy class return tickets (MEL to LAX) for around $2700, If I purchase directly from Qantas, its almost $5000. Even if you pay some portion with Points, it will not be less than $2700, which I am getting if I purchase tickets elsewhere. I have never understood this whole idea of points ? Why people gets so crazy about these deals ? Can someone please enlighten me ? Thanks
