Optus $10 Prepaid Starter Kit Only $3 at Woolworths

31

Just spotted this in Rundle Mall, but couldn't find it in any catalogues.

These are also $5 at Officeworks, but I wouldn't expect them to price match because I can't find it anywhere online.

Since $10 is the minimum credit you need to activate an Optus SIM, it's a perfect alternative to Telstra for porting your existing number in and out again to make the most of a deal with another provider.

You get a choice of 3 plans: 7 days, 45 days or 30 days.

  • Edit: Just saw it in Woolies Lane Cove so might be Woolies-wide.

    I believe you have a choice of three plans, the one you detailed, a $2/day one, and a 45 day expiry one.

    • thanks, updated

  • +1

    Is it worth the trouble?

    • Personally, while porting from Kogan-Telstra-Kogan I just spent 2 days without any mobile connection at all because Telstra hadn't completed my port to a $2 SIM properly. I am very tempted to use this Optus SIM instead next time. YMMV.

      • I have the same problem too.

    • Going by the vast amount of comments of people who received faulty SIMs in previous deals, I say not worth the potential trouble. You will never recoup the time lost as you spiral into the dramas.

  • Saw this at 711 on Saturday.
    Mayb all 711's have this on offer too??

    • Yep saw this today in 7eleven in NSW. Also…

  • The 30 day expiry one is a tough one..

    The credit is technically valid for 30 days, but if you use your phone for at least one of:
    * Sending a SMS
    * Making a phone call
    * Using data

    For 5 consecutive days, then your $10 credit has only lasted you (a maximum of) 5 days.

    The main benefit of that one is probably the flexibility it affords you in being able to use it in any 5 random days (i.e. not necessarily consecutive) in any consecutive 30 day period, but I can't really think of who would get good use out of something like that.

    • Yes, it's a bit misleading to call it a 30 day plan. It's really any 5 in 30 days, that's why I called it a $2/day plan.

  • Got one from Woolworths Garden City. None on stand but they found one in a drawer

  • Must be clearing them out, these are now $3 at Coles Express as well.
